I have to agree with the Serb camp on this one. There is not doubt that Mr Ishinger said what he did, the level of detail is too much for this to be the imagination of the Independent’s correspondent.
By the looks of it declaration of independence would be unavoidable. In no way Albanians would compromise on the independence but technically that declaration would mean a de-facto partition, Belgrade’s ultimate aim. This is reminiscent of population exchanges at the beginning of the century and it is very sad to be a witness to it.

i thought it would be more comments concerning this subject. However, i think reality has set in and no one wants to address the issues.

village-bey,

Yes he should be neutral.
So not like the US saying: negotiations OK, but the end result must be what we want.

Negotiate, compromize!

nothing happens without reason on that level of diplomacy, I would say.

yesterdays remarks could simply be a hint for ceku to hold his feet on the ground..and a message to the ordinary Albanians, not to resort to violence...

we will see what future brings.

Let's compromize!

Kosovo can do a lot on its own but will officially be part of Serbia.

Serbia can agree. Russia can. There can be a UNSC resolution. No breach of international law.

NO PROBLEM :)

I read the article in question in The Independent, and it seemed pretty unequivocal to me.

Well, whatever propaganda gets you Albanians through the night, I guess.

What he said to Sejdiu over the phone is irrelevant. What is highly significant is that he again overstepped the mark by giving interviews to newspapers and surpassing his role as a mediator. He should practice what he preaches and refrain from making statements to the press.

Missunderstood but not really.

"However, the report today does not bring into question the authenticity of the diplomat's quoted remarks."

This is so funny. Damage control. He doesnt deny that an independent Kosovo is a failed state on which EU will never stake its reputation on.

Good job Ishinger. Keep them calm, we all know what will happen if they start attacking Serbs and your troops there.

How surprisingly that the major kosovo albanian newspaper writes that ANY anti independence views expressed by anyone is missinterpreted!
