He did the exact proper jesture. I'm certain anyone else who knows what's correct would have done the same thing.

To nikshala - this is not a childish walkout, this is a stance of what's correct & what's wrong.

nikshala,

Kosovo is part of Serbia. We all know that. That can change. But let's stick to the present situation now.

Childish? I think it is very childih to want your own state. But deny others their own state (Serbs in Northern Kosovo).

No worries. Now that u lost EU support. I mean it wont be difficult to bring these 2 million people under Belgrade rule again. Russia wont even allow autonomy if Serbs dont agree to it.

Now that all you have is US, what you say is irreleven. Everyone knows US unilateral foreign policies are a joke. Just like an independent Kosovo.

Can Serbia afford humiliation such as this? On the other hand what can Serbia do, boycott all it neighbors for showing contempt. Things certainly have changed in the last 15 years and not for the best as far as Serbia is concerned. I hope Serbia will not threaten violence as they usually do.

Cvele,
russia was not able to feed handfull of its own soldiers while in KosovA, and you are telling me that russia will not allow even autonomy. How naive can you be man.

Your joke, you have actually convinced yourself that you will go against the will of 2 million who you haven't governed for the past 9 years. Kosova is Independent the sooner you realise that the better for you and us Kosovars (inc K-serbs)

Nikshala - I would hardly call it childish for a government representative to react when official bodies recognise a disputed province within its borders as a separate entity.

When there is an agreed status and if it includes such recognition, then fine.

The UN has already taken far too many liberties in Kosovo. The aim was to reintegrate the province within Serbia, instead of which they have watched as non Albanians (and unfavourable Albanians) have been pushed out of their homes, churches burned and while industries have been privatised etc etc.

Kouchner himself was very involved with this bid to gain independence through the back door. The corrupt 'Third Way' moralisers are now out of the picture, thank goodness.

Not to walk out would be accepting a greater albania on your soil. All ministers should do the same in the future if this happens again.

The only childish behaviour evident is that of the Albanian posters who still cannot seem to understand that as of this second (and in all likelihood forever), Kosovo-Metohija remains a part of Serbia.

Wishing it wasn't doesn't actually make it so.

The minister's actions were entirely appropriate with international diplomatic protocol - something the Albanians who post here don't seem to have much of a clue about.

If they did, they would join me in laughing at Ceku's whining demands that Ischinger explain his comments about Kosmet.

Time for a little reality check, methinks.

According to the mining and energy minister’s cabinet, the organizers sent an apology and correction to the ministry, clearly defining Kosovo in accordance with Resolution 1244.

This was a clear provacation. If it was not why did they apologize Nik?

This shows that for International Community Kosova De Facto is independent. De Iure will come after recent round of negotiations.

Well I understand the Minister and maybe I would have done the same if I were in his shoes. The only problem is that Serbs will shortly have to walk out of a lot of places, e.g. NATO, EU etc. Don't know if it's worth it.

nikshala

Wow, here we go again, more childish walkouts. If thats how serbian politicians are goingto react everytime Kosovo is represented separately, than they should cancel all future conferences.

kate

It is exactly right that he should have walked out and objected. Serbia should boycott all such government-related events where Kosovo is given national status in its own right.

Until things change - ie. if and when independence is established, or an agreement overturning Res 1244 is made which acknowledges some other relevant status - then all other countries should respect Serbia's current legal position.
