who announced Serbia as a successor state of Yugoslavia?
Where did Serbia get that love to be so big successor state of Yugoslavia?
Come on man now is 21 century and is not age of stone.

Can anyone tell me why Kosovo needs elections just before the status is settled? Internationally it is much more usual to have elections after a status change so that the voters can decide who is most fit to lead them in the new situation.

Are Kosovo's leaders afraid that once Kosovo's status is settled the voters will discard them? Not because of the status result but because they are rather incompetent and have too much connections with criminals...?

Greetings,

Lets make a few things clear.

In resolution 1244, which actually lets a lot of things unclear it is stated that the resolution reaffirms “the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the other States of the region, as set out in the Helsinki Final Act and annex 2,”

Some might argue that Kosovo is not a part of Serbia because of the formulation “to preserve the Integrity of the FRY”, not much left of that integrity I must say. Others argue that sure is since Serbia is the successor state of FRY.

Those in the Pro-Independence camp admittedly has a firm ground when it believes that the natural cause of the building of provisional institutions of self-government believes should be Independence. This because it has led to the creation of a legitimate political society that represents the democratic will of the majority of the population of Kosovo, which I as I understand it is Independence. It therefore should, naturally, be the population of Kosovo that decide if it wants to be part of the successor state Serbia or not since being a part of Yugoslavia is impossible.

When it comes to Serbia refusing to abide to international law, Well that has shown to be a trademark of the Serbian/Yugoslavian State. Funny enough, even resolution 1244 begins by highlighting and regretting Serbias lack of compliance with UNSC resolutions. Returning to the refusal of accepting UN travel documents. The Majority of the western countries accept these documents, and those that don’t, argue that it is awfully easy to be handed these documents (you need only to provide for two witnesses that state that you are who you claim you are in order to be granted such a document)

Here is a list of Countries that accept UNMIK Travel Documents, of course, continuing on the path of refusing to abide to decisions talking by UNMIK with the blessing of UNSC, Serbia is not included in this list.

According to a press release by UNMIK in 27 January 2001, being one that loves to stick to facts I refer to the direct link: http://www.unmikonline.org/press/press/pr481.html

“Sixteen countries have recognized the documents as valid - Sweden, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Finland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States. The Benelux countries have withheld acceptance until all Shengen countries officially recognize the document, said Koenigs. Of those countries, only Portugal has not yet communicated its approval.”

So by 2001, 16 countries had recognized the documents, now what other province has its own travel documents? An indication maybe at what Kosovos final status will be.

Yaroslav,

Thanks for the info (I don't know if you are right by the way...)

KS, I think you mix up your wishes with facts.

The fact is: Kosovo was/is a province of Serbia, and NOT a republic of Yugoslavia. That would have made things much easier. But it is not the case.

1244 states Kosovo as part of Serbia. That is a fact. It would be easier for the US if it did not state that. But it does!

Serbia does not give in. It would be much easier if Serbia did, but Serbia does not.

The Albanians want full independence. It would be much easier if they did not. But they do...

And that's why it is a very sad problem.

I can understand every people want its own coutry. I can also understand states don't want to let go parts of their territory.

That's why: compromise. Both sides have to give up something.

Can you live with a UN seat under the name 'Serbian province of Kosovo' ?

What about international law? The UN passport aka UNMIK travel document is accepted by a lot of countries..except serbia. Why is that? Why is Serbia not recognizing international documents? Does serbia not recognize the UN??

Shows how much you know KS. With those documents you can go only to Montenegro, Macedonia and Albnaia. Any where else you will need Serbian documents

Albanians are integrating in Serbia, this shows your lack of knowledge. The Albanians in Medvegja and Presheva Valley do vote and take part in elections.

What in the world makes you think the Army will ever return in Kosova? It never will. Period.

1244? Wait, what about the other resolutions before it. According to you, 1244 is the final word. Which it isn't.

UNSC? Who cares.
WE got America, all of Balkans (our neighborhs) and much of N.Europe.

Kosova is not Serbia's colony, get it through your head. It will never ever be anyone's colony. Not Ottomans, not Serbian, not Bulgarian, not ANYTHING. WE will final be FREE and Independent.

That intervention (I paid for it by taxes by the way so please be a bit thankful to us in the West) was for the sake of PEACE. Not to create an Albanian state.

The whole world is telling local serbs to take part in the elections to integrate into future Rep of Kosova. If these people refuse to do so, than the UN will simply turn their backs to the local serbs when they are struggling to integrate into Kosova after the Status Settlement.

Whether it is with this institutions of Pristina, or parallel, as the Albanians have been doing since the 1980s, the key here is to vote in elections that would bring officially legitimate political institutions to deal with the present needs of the K-Serb community. I already see the K-Serbs operating outside the confines of Pristina, so we might as well start thinking of two entities in Kosovo.
