The IMF is also berating the Macedonians saying they can't raise their pensions (but will allow raising of salaries):

Skopje. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not agree with raising pensions in Macedonia, but won’t oppose raising salaries, of the government provides funds, Macedonian newspaper Dnevnik writes. At the first meeting with the IMF mission and Macedonian minister Trajko Slaveski at a work meeting on Wednesday the hot topics had not been discussed, but the problems had come on the surface. The IMF mission started the technical talks with the government officials on Friday. IMF does not agree with the new pension formula that was supposed to increase them.

I guess Hirschhofer has to justify his fat IMF salary by telling Serbia it should not pay it's workers a living wage!

It is odd that he suggests that Serbia was able to have substantial pay increases without a noticable effect upon inflation - surely he should be looking into what Serbia is doing right under that circumstance!

Public wages are not a reflection of how well an economy is doing. They are usually done for political considerations and are a huge expense which are being financed by the private sector through collection of taxes. The increases must be gradual in line with overall economic growth. The politicians in Serbia are doing a disservice to the overall economy and this must stop.

I guess you don't know economics either besides basic spelling of the English language isufi.

The IMF hates when a country is doing better than they would like. Such restrictions such as these are meant to save their them money and keep countries tied to them.

The fact that wages are going up is good, means a healthy growing economy.

Joe thanks for the advice but we're smart and realistic people, 50% is too early at the moment. Gradual increase is our plan and goal.

How ironic you come here try and break some glass in terms of the Serbian economy.

It looks to me that the Serbs are making the same mistake as the Hungarians did few years ago, when they increased public sector salaries by 50%. It added tremendously to the huge deficit.
