Lollee has hit the nail on the head. While the media is talking endlessly about Kosovo and now Nato, the oligarchs have changed their political colours and remain focused on making money.

How can one company own nearly all the supermarkets and another own nearly all the dairies ? This did not just happen, it was allowed to happen.

High prices on essential goods are just a tax on poor people, but the “tax” goes into private pockets and not into building schools and hospitals.

We do not need to worry that luxury cars and clothes are expensive here. Anyway, the rich people do not pay import duty and PDV on their 4X4s, notice the black registration plates with yellow letters showing this. The owners just create a non-resident company to own the car, or pay a lawyer for this service.

Just as under Milosevic, while the masses are manipulated and distracted by the same old nationalistic issues, a handful of “smart” people are laughing all the way to the bank !

so lollee, first of all: there is no more comunism, the market makes the prices. you can have food for free, but with communist or eu-quality. i don´t want that.

crushing & destroying our economy and exchanging by far bigger monopolists / european players will sink prices??? well we see how that has worked in poland, hungary, slovenia or croatia. not at all, everywhere where pseudocompetition a la west came, the prices went up, while quality went down. this is a fact.

and i´ll rather give it to miskovic then to any westerner.

A penalty fine of between 1 and 10 percent of annual profits is set for the company or companies in question.”

hahahahahaha. Which means that if the company has too much expanses through rapid expansion or payments to the executives and such, the profits that they will be fined on will be minuscule. ahahahahahhahahahahahah

I have to say that I was really shocked to see how much basic goods are in Serbia. Certain foods, cosmetics and clothes are more expensive than London!

No, that wasn't the intention of those comments...we have a monopoly situation here in Serbia not because of "western" companies but of our very own Milosevic crony named Miskovic. How can that possibly be related to westernism or capitalism. The only true way to bring prices down in Belgrade is by freeing up this monopoly and allowing competition. Haven't you heard of the simple principal of supply and demand? And why shouldn't Serbia aim their standards of those of Switzerland? Last time I checked it was a beautiful country with a high standard of living. Bring on the foreign investments!! Bring on competition and a better life for the Serbs.

yeah, and of course breaking our own industry and allowing western companies to enter the market will bring hail to the serbian people.

western & continental monopolies will give away their goods for free & of course our farmers will negotiate much better conditions with world players and european monopolists.

he is crushing our booming economy just because he thinks serbia should have the same inflation as switzerland. that serbia isn´t by far on the same economic level as switzerland, doesn´t bother him at all or he simply doesn´t know.
