Yugo, one of world's ugliest cars

I love my Yugo, a family member. Bought it in September 1989 -and still it runs. Never a major problem, lots of funny memories. Like: It was about the New Year eve 2003. I had Yugo parked in front of Belgrade railway station, crowds of people and other cars around, all fighting for a place to load or unload suitcases, huge bags and nervous passengers. It wasn't very cold that late afternoon, just some degrees below zero.

In the middle of the chaos I finally got my family into Yugo, and in less than 20 minutes I filled up every free hole of Yugo with their luggage. No-one inside could move or get out. Bags were all around. While doing this I kept apologizing other people around of keeping my place so long. Well, finally I was ready, jumped in and turned the key to start motor.

Half an hour later we were still at the same spot. Yugo was steamy inside, my wife and kids were losing their minds, but the hard headed engine just didn't want to start. Everyone, people inside and people outside were cursing me and my car.

As the last resort I jumped out, lit a cigaret, inhaled smoke deep to my brain, took a very angry look on my face -and wispered to my Yugo: If you don't immediately stop this stupidity I will as first thing tomorrow sell you by 50 euros to anyone, to the first person who has that money in his pocket.

I threw my smoke away, got in to Yugo, turned the key -and drove my family home.

I know this when first Yugo was shipped to US in early 80 and there was a commercila if you buy on American car you get one yugo for free.

Are Albanian built cars better looking? I don't think I've ever seen one. maybe they don't export.

Why does a yugo come with heat strips in the back wind-shield?
So that when you push your car in the middle of winter your hands won't freeze.

The zaztava company in middle of Kosova-Serbia War turned into a gun making company. Got bombed, and they are still making this?

In 1980's (?) when yugo made this model america ordered 10,00 models---the next year 0 were ordered.

Two most descredited cars around the world were: Yogo and Dacia. Yugo could never start when you wanted it.Allways needed somebody to push it for ignation, and Dacia needs another car behind carrying gas.It burns and leaks gas at the same amount as 60ton American tank 'Abrahams'. So I am glad Albania is not producing such jokes as Yugu ang Dacia

The Yugo may be ugly but, it lasts forever. Just like Kosovo will last as Serbian territory - forever.

Yes it is true....the Yugo was ugly, now let's move on. How about the Serbian government agreeing to a deal with another car company. Why should the Serbs cling to the past it is time to sell Zastava to GM or Fiat and move on. PS Look at the Skoda..that thing was ugly too..Have you seen the new versions. Wow they look and run almost like a VW!
