To "Canadian" "Serbia on the other hand could enjoy a prosperous future trading with Russia who has become the energy Giant in Europe and of course their very close friends in China who are the largest traders in the world, larger than the US and EU put together. I fail to see how Serbia loses so much by not joining the EU Club that has offered very little to most of their members"

Canadian, I fail to understand what are you doing in Canada then, revoking such a "bright" future with mother Serbia and grand-mother Russia and aunt China? Oh I get it. You are smart, probably waiting for the right moment to strike when the balance shifts. You can wait as long as you want, as for Kosovo it has waited long enough. Kosovo wants EU and doesn't want to trade with the countries that you mention . All Kosovo needs is a recognition from US, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan & Canada. Any doubt that these countries will refuse?

In 20 years even Kosova will be in EU while Serbia remains isolated. Does anyone know how hard it is to obtain a visa for a Serb into Britain, USA, and EU?
(KS, 30. August 2007 23:07)

In order for this to happen KS, Kosovo must first become independent and then recognized by the UN, this will of course never happen thus your vision is a personal pipe dream that has no chance of reality. Serbia on the other hand could enjoy a prosperous future trading with Russia who has become the energy Giant in Europe and of course their very close friends in China who are the largest traders in the world, larger than the US and EU put together. I fail to see how Serbia loses so much by not joining the EU Club that has offered very little to most of their members other than the BIG 5 and we all know who they are. If Russia developed a close relationship with Serbia who is the heart of the Balkans, only the EU loses not Serbia.

The EU fares well without Serbia. There's absolutely no reason for us (EU citizens) to accept within our union a country whose vast majority of population still holds tight to the nationalistic rhetoric of the distant past. The EU was forged of countries whose peoples rejected a destructive, senseless attitude that still prevails in Serbia. So until Serbians wake up, they're better off with Russia alright. The EU has better things to do than babysitting a stubborn child.

Witch ever way the Kosovo situation swings it swings. But if it swings Serbias way, can someone take a picture of Ahmets face. Me, I'm for partition & Serbia to enter the EU without "s-kosova".

The reason why I recommended your post is because you claim that partnership with Russia is better than with the EU. This kind of backward thinking only leads your country into turmoil. The EU has a lot to offer to any country that joins it.

A country that sits near the heart of the Balkan cheering Pro-East is ludacris, don't you think? In 20 years even Kosova will be in EU while Serbia remains isolated. Does anyone know how hard it is to obtain a visa for a Serb into Britain, USA, and EU?

Good Luck Serbia I hope and pray for your success. By the time the EU is ready to accept your membership, the window of opportunity will have passed.

Mike, Serbia does not belong in the EU, heaven forbid. What we have seen is that the EU states have attacked Serbia in 1999, so why should we deal with these aggressors? Serbia joining only helps them, not Serbia. What we will see is a rise in unemployment(our companies can not compete with huge developed western corporations), but this will be offset by millions of serbs going to western europe to work. What will result is that we will be colony.

KS, thanks for the recommendation. However, you probably won't do that for all my posts, as I am pro-Serbian, not pro-Albanian.

Adopting the high standards of the EU especially in the economic sphere will go a long way towards making Serb products more appealing to consumers in ALL markets.Russians buy plenty of goods from Germany and Italy so there is no false choice for Serbia to make between the EU which works great as an economic/free trade zone and Russia. The former chancellor of Germany(Gerhard Schroeder) is on the board of directors of Russian Gazprom to cite one example of close Russian-German cooperation in the economic arena. The Serbs are doing a great job of moving economically towards EU standards but defending their legal deed to Kosovo. There will be no EU recognition of Kosovo independence without a UNSC Resolution so the Serbs need to play their cards right and stay the course because in the end it is economics that determines the standard of living and not politics.russia has a ton of money to invest and Serbs would be wise to attract as many of those petrodollars as humanly possible but it would actually be to Russian firms' advantage to have manufacturing enterprises in Serbia if Serbia is a member of a 500 million member free trade area(EU).

Mike

Serbia belongs in the EU. For every historical example we can point to for Serbia's "cultural" and "ideoloigical" tie with Russia, we can give an equally valid argurment for Serbia's ties to the West.

Solve Kosovo, and the rest will quickly fall into place.

Lazar

Joining the EU is not necessarily a good thing. It is much better to look to have more ties with Russia than with the EU. I mean, the EU is rather mean towards us, whereas Russia is a natural partner based on cultural and ideological ties/similarities.

KS

Lazar just to let you know I recommended your post. I will say that if every Kosovar read your post they all (2.4 million) would recommend it.
