I want to inform you that I have studied the recent and not only history of Hellas. I am very proud for the period 1912-1913 when we doulblesized our territory and the Hellenic army freed millions of Hellenes that they still were in slavery ...

Dimitar

Black One, it matters not to me who you work for for you only parrot the "official truth" as taught to you by the West, that Macedonian heritage belongs to Greece. You should know that "history" is written by the victors (read Edward Hallet Carr, "What is History"); doesn't make it true!!
Why don't you study your own recent history? You may come up with a clue or two as to why Greeks have the most fragile ego in Europe. For example the cultural (and literal ) genocide of the ethnic Macedonians from Aegean Macedonia since 1912/13, and Greece's desire to hide this historic fact.

Dear Dimitar

It's unbelievable that you talk about logic ... But I know it's not your fault. Your people have been taught a distorted full of propaganda version of history for more of half a century. But now it's time to start learning about the normal history that everybody in the world knows. You know I work for an international EU mission and sometimes when people from various countries use to laugh with your efforts to appear as "macedonians" and as heirs of the macedonian legacy, I defend you and I say that you just repeat what you have learnt ... But my friend I recomend you to start study serious and objective history books. You can find many of these in the western world. It's time to move and learn the truth ... After all some study never killed anyone. Best.

Dear Dimitar,

Even your name sounds so Greek to me anyway ... Well your country FYROM or let say Northern-SLAV-Macedonia sent some kind of help (I'm not so sure what kind, sorry that I'm not informed) when our hour of need had passed ... Nice trick ... And after all what kind of help could u provide to us? If you really want to help Hellas and of course yourselves stop distorting history.
Best regards

Even before the fire has turned into catastrophe, Russia provided more aircraft to Greece than any other country. Be-200 plane of the RF Emergency Ministry, six Mi-26 helicopters, two Mi-8 helicopters and five Ka-32 helicopters are currently there. Most of the firefighters who have arrived from 21 countries were operating in the Peloponnese.A group of 55 Israeli firefighters were helping combat one of the worst fires around Krestena, near Ancient Olympia.Serbia joined in with seven planes today, while France had four panes and 60 firefighters on the ground.

harmid you need to go back to afganistan, this is talking about greece, i think the fires are still burning. You have no respect for the deceased.

Dimitar

Help from everywhere but Macedonia! We were turned back at the border!! This shows how politicised the "Greek" is. Truly heartbreaking.

The birthplace of Western civilization is burning and all Europeans should help in any way possible. God rest the souls of the Greek people who have perished in this most tragic way.

Ok... this is nuts.

This is about Greece not Kosovo and Serbia

The Serbian government was able to help with the fires and it's doing so. It's a good neighbourly gesture and that is that.

Hey 'KS' is Ceku the great administrator and controller of Nato air power going to offer any help? I hope that his coordinates are better this time!
(kate, 28. August 2007 17:13)

Don't reply to me on places that I do not read. I came here by mistake. I only read from category "Kosovo status."

Ceku helped NATO bomb your country, he is not a firefighter.

I'm reading other places, no where anything about air planes.

First of all I want to say how terrible this is. Not just for the people in Greece, but also the wildlife, forests and property. It's a terrible disaster and it will be interesting to see what sort of 'terrorists' (according to Greek authorities) have done this.

You're right Ahmet and Agim -the Serbian planes are all a big publicity stunt. Even the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Deutsche Welle (which as we know adores Serbia) are now in on it [Link http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2752324,00.html].

"On Monday, Greece was expecting four firefighting planes from Serbia and two from Spain, while two helicopters each were to arrive from Germany and the Netherlands. Israel, Romania, Norway and Slovenia were each sending one helicopter, while Switzerland and Iceland have also offered assistance."

It is still big PR, I have checked more reliable news , such as; bbc, cnn etc... and did not see serbian name on the list of help coming outside of Greece. If serbia has send those planes , is maybe becasue they are in dire need for repairs and will never have the chance to do any fire extengushing at all. I am still eyeing more relaible news services to see the list of countries that are helping.
By the way how soon you guys forget that you were thanking russia for giving you help on wild fires , which they were no different than fires that raged in Kosova and we managed with our own resources and 2-3 KFOR helicpters that is all.

Ahmet Isufi

How can you help another country when you had fires going on in your country and nowhere near on this scale and you need it help yourself. Don't kid yourself with empty propaganda.

C

pre 16 godina

Fine, fine...it would be pointless to argue that no planes were ever sent. But, still, there's no such thing as free lunch in international (regional) relations, so I'm sure any assistance by Belgrade is done with the belief that Greece will 'appreciate' it. That's like diplomatic code for returning the favour in 'rainy days.'

If anyone is inclined to link this to the Kosovo status - as in, the Greek support for an option that falls short of independence - then seven planes won't get Belgrade any closer to its options.

Or, maybe, who knows...maybe Serbia has such a large air fleet that it may be hoping fires start all over the place, and so it can win backing for its policy towards Kosovo by sending in 'assistance planes.'

Regardless, I think this act should be commended, because those planes will be saving lives.

But, there's never free lunches...
