I've added my initial to avoid any confusion (Jovan is a common enough name so that B92 wound up having more than one commenter by that name).

Nonsense. I've been to Kosovo and there are no Islamists there. Unlike Serbia, where religion (in the form of the SPC) and politics are deeply enmeshed with each other at the highest level, in Kosovo religion and politics have remained separate. Political Islam is simply not a factor in Kosovo Albanian politics. As a political movement, it does not exist. The sole political party in Kosovo that makes any reference to religion is the Albanian Christian Democratic Party of Kosovo, which represents the interests of the small Catholic Albanian minority.

I don't think that independence (the probable outcome) or a denial of independence (less likely) will result in mass violence. There are several reasons why not. KFOR and the Kosovo Albanian have learned useful lessons from the events of March 2004. For the Kosovo Albanians, the most important lesson is the realization of who would benefit the most from any such outbreak of violence. They know who that is, and they will do their utmost to resist any provocations.

All the Serb refugges from Kosovo and the ones from the south should take this 120 day period to relocate to northern Kosovo where NATO and the Serb self-defense units will be able to protect them from what is sure to be Islamist fury once Kosovo does not get independence. The Serb Orthodox Church should send all of its priests and monks to its religious sites in southern Kosovo who may have to serve as sacrificial lambs to the Islamists but the torture and murder of any religious figure in southern Kosovo by the Islamists will disgust the world.Shalom
