again Dear IDA
A recent BBC report found considerable support for Haradinaj among the Serb population. A Serb from north North Mitrovica said that "only two governments of Kosovo, the one of Bajram Rexhepi, and especially the one of Ramush Haradinaj have managed to do something for the Serb minority... The latter has managed to bring the Serb minority closer, and institutionalize the Serb language in Kosovo.
The vagueness of the charges against Haradinaj personally, and the widely held suspicion he was indicted as part of a political deal with Belgrade combined with the overt international support for him, has had the effect of increasing rather than diminishing his political importance in Kosovo.

- As for crimes during the 1990's i will try to enlight some facts for you
Serbia and Montenegro was dominated by Slobodan Milosevic government who controled the country through
his role as President of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), an as a key element of his hold on power, President Milosevic effectively controled the
Serbian police, a heavily armed force of over 200,000 that is responsible for internal
security. Serbian police committed extensive and systematic human rights abuses. The
police committed numerous, serious abuses including extrajudicial killings, torture, brutal
beatings, and arbitrary arrests. Police repression continued to be directed against ethnic
minorities in this case Albanians, and police committed the most widespread and worst abuses against Kosovo's
90-percent ethnic Albanian population.
The police, without following proper legal procedures,
frequently extract "confessions" during interrogations that routinely include the beating of
suspects' feet, hands, genital areas, and sometimes heads. The police use their fists,
nightsticks, and occasionally electric shocks. Apparently confident that there would be no
reprisals, and, in an attempt to intimidate the wider community, police often beat persons
in front of their families...
Police also used threats and violence against family members of suspects and have held
them as hostages. According to Albanian and foreign observers, the worst abuses against
ethnic Albanians took place not in big towns but in rural enclaves.

In this country where many if not all of the adult males in the Serbian population were
armed, the police, selectively enforced the laws
regulating the possession and registration of firearms so as to harass and intimidate ethnic
minorities, particularly Albanian Kosovars and Bosniak Muslims. The justification given for searches of homes and arrests was illegal possession of weapons.
In Kosovo at that time the police are known to use the pretext of searching for
weapons when in fact they are also searching for hard currency,
During these these years
defense lawyers in Kosova filed numerous complaints about flagrant breaches of standard
procedure which they believed undermined their clients rights. Even when individual
judges have admitted that the lawyers are correct, courts have ignored or dismissed the
complaints.
This is the summary of the daily acitivity that the average Albanian went through, including myself as i already told you in my previous postings.
thank you

"I have seen teenage girls being raped by the armed officials, killings of innocent children and senior citizens. Let alone the killings of unarmed civilians."

Then why aren't you a witness at the Hague if you were there to witness all these crimes.

Did you get any DNA evidence of rapes? Any photographs of injured people with torn clothes?

What are the names of the people you claim you witnessed being killed - and where exactly and when did this happen?

Why weren't you injured or shot? Were you hiding?

Were you in Kosovo during the bombing?

And Haradinaj did kill civilians and he did rape a Roma girl and many others, so your claim that he was defending civilians is false.

David,

This is a great post which reiterate what I have been posting on this forum for years. Patriarch Pavle has summarized well all the atrocities committed by his nation, and I quote: «What the Serbs have accomplished during this war have tarnished the soul of the nation for many generations.»

The worst, the officials at the government never presented apologies and excuses for what you so well described

From the evidnece presented in The Hague it appears that some of the actions of Haradinaj as Commander in Chief of KLA during 1998-1999 were not in accordance with Geneva convention. However, considering the endurance of the Ethnic Albanians at the Serbian Armed forces it is incomparable. I have been present in the campaigns of the Serbian Army and Police of the 1992, 1994 and 1997. Cruelty is not a word that can describe what Kosovans have suffered at the hands of Serbian regime. I have seen teenage girls being raped by the armed officials, killings of innocent children and senior citizens. Let alone the killings of unarmed civilians. Despite this you claim the unlawful killings of Haradinaj, yes he may be a murderer and he may be more brutal than people are aware. However, he was defending his unarmed civilians, children, women, senior citizens and most of all preventing another massacre like Recak. Yes, Haradinaj should be punished if found guilty but you have hundreds of ex-commanders who have participated in the most inhumane treatment of people that walk as free men. I first was sceptical of the treatment of Ethnic Albanians when i visited Kosovo as a reporter in 1989 but what I experienced was fierce cruelty on humans. I am certain that I do not speak for all Serbs but the treatment of Ethnic Albanians was unseen and monstrous. I have seen this first hand, i would not have believed it if it was reported.

Since Kosovars speak Gheg and most Albanians from Albania speak Tosk, it could be a legitimate excuse. There are many 'slang' terms in both dialects that 'seem' foreign to each other when spoken - although not so when written.

Witness intimidation is a huge problem in trials like these.

The Hague is well aware of this which is why delPonte made particularly firm statements concerning Haradinaj at the beginning of the trial.

Its simply not good enough that witnesses are not given the proper protection.
