Two reasons

- Because the natural resources and the mineral wealth (65%) are in the north

- Because if the northern Serbs seperate then the albans have "promised" to attack the small Serbian population south of ibar

The alban argument is that if Kosovo is split they may split montenegro, macedonia, greece, and possibly the southern most part of italy. Which would be funny if they were to proclaim that. But thats why if North Kosovo goes they will attack the Serbs in the south.

I thought Kosova belonged to belgrade bc it was the starting point of the greatest nation in the world, serbia!

I also thought that when God told Adam, he told him that Kosova was the cradle of serbian civilization and that the devil was going to send his minions, ethnic albanians.

Serbia was created in my opinion right after the fall of the Roman Empire in 7th Century. But Belgrade is one of the oldest European cities with nearly 4500 years under its belt.

It is true that Kosovo has 70% of Serbia's energy recources, and a lot of them are in Northen Kosovo.
Since Kosovo is not going to be partitioned, Serbia can not claim them in case of Kosovo's INDEPENDENCE.

It looks like Kosovo will be partitioned. For the first time in six years, Time magazine mentioned Kosovo last week and floated the partition idea. The American news media is starting to push this "solution" for two reasons: 1) To make bush look stupid for his independence promise and 2) to persuade the American people to demand that Iraq get partitioned so that the American troops can get withdrawn. I hope Serbia demands at least 50% of Kosovo. Face it, albanians and your supporters, the Russians ran rings around your "diplomats". Long live macho man Putin!

There is no denying that Ischinger hinted that partition idea was something worth considering.
That was not a slip on my opinion but a clear attempt to test the waters and if favourable signals were received, direct the future talk towards that goal. Doest need a great deal of imagination to guess where the proposal originated. Possibly the suggestion was passed to Kharchenko by Serbian Foreign Ministry and then from the Russian to Ischinger.
It is also not hard to understand that partition would have made life a great deal easier for Troika but ideas should have originated by the negotiating parties during talks.
Ischinger openly surpassed Troika’s confined role of independent facilitator. I do not understand why is it such a great deal for BG to say openly that it desires partition.

Ischinger dismisses partion talks because 27 EU Member States dismisses partition, as in contrary EU would dismiss its own Common Foreign and Security Policy, which is one fundamental dimension of the Union. talks. Certainly, US dismisses partition talks. In this case the best scenario remaining for Russia would be interested to prolong the process of talks as long as possible. Anyhow the time is running off after 120 days which will mark the rubber stamp of the Kosova indipendence and the returning of Serbia in the midst of the democratic family of European nations. This outcome is the only viable way for a lasting peace and stability in the Balkans.
