I am puzzled by the desire of Serb politicians to do the dirty work for the Albanians. Whatever the final status of Kosovo one can be sure that the next step for Albanians extremists will be to push KFOR/UNMIK out. So why help them?

As for Bondsteel: most Americans have already left the base. I have the impression that now Bulgaria is their favorite location. For American soldiers who value comfort it is a better place.

@Miri,

Perhaps you would like to debate Roger's comments on geo-politics and the balkans instead of using a cop-out of selling "ice-cream" that any child can come up with.

With regards to Nato, why is it a surprise to some that they want to control the balkans.

Why would we not be suspicious of a group that demanded the occupation of the ENTIRE territory of Serbia in '99 during the Ramboiullet ultimatum. They said in essence, let us in or we will bomb you. What they did to my city after that, I will never forgive them for (all based on lies and pretext).

For those with short attention spans in our MTV culture, remember that Serbia was denied the right to defend itself against attacks by the KLA.

That's why our government is now directing attention to NATO's true intentions. They will get the same answer from every political party in Serbia because we have the moral high ground.

GO HOME NATO!

Wowww Roger7!

You are amazing!
That's what I call research.
Allow me to suggest that except the oil, NATO is also after monasteries in Kosovo so it can use them as tourist attractions in order to make a good profit, by selling ice-cream in their yards to millions of tourists that will visit them every year.

Hey princ that doesn't mean a thing. Those were suggestions from the ICG, not laws. They all do make sense, why would it be logical to have say russian troops in Kosova when that country hates the Kosovar citizens?

They would be targeted by extremists, pay attention I did not say UCK, and it would create trouble. If a country is willing to recognize an independent Kosova than they should also put some force to back that support, that is all.

Republic of Kosova is a huge factor to stability in the region.

BTW where did you get that and how do you do links?

Rade, as I mentioned in a previous post, keeping Bondsteel in Kosovo is a slap on the face to the very people who helped the Serbs.
That's tantamount to saying,
now that we got what we want, who cares about you. That's dirty, as a Serb, I'm offended!!

It's interesting taht the ICG report suggests the oposite wishful thinking;

"To NATO and its Member States:

10. NATO should consult with member states contributing troops to its Kosovo mission (KFOR) to ensure that none which fundamentally oppose recognising Kosovo’s conditional (supervised) independence are fielding contingents by early 2008, and that their contributions are replaced by those of nations prepared to recognise that status.

11. Following a Kosovo declaration of conditional (supervised) independence and recognition by the U.S. and EU member states, NATO should remain deployed in Kosovo, and carry out the tasks specified for it under the Ahtisaari plan.

12. If the NATO Council does not agree to continued deployment, the U.S. and those EU member states which have recognised Kosovo’s independence should deploy their forces to carry out the relevant security tasks."

Thus the next question is if it is clearly not a hidden agenda what open agenda's does it have other then maintaing peace in the Serbian province? It will be intersting to see any change in troops over teh next few months as clearly ICG expect some changes but I guess it can go to the bin of history just like the other ICG wish list which culminated in plan Ahtisaari.

“NATO is not leading the process of the resolving of the status of Kosovo, even though it has a seat in the enlarged composition of the Contact Group,” she stressed

Yea, right! Just because you say it, does not make it so.

I propose that NATO has a strong presence in the Balkans because of oil and profits.

Wagons East—NATO oil trade route!

My research reveals (and mentioned as far back as 1999) and citing multiple sources that...“It is now becoming clearer than ever that a primary reason the U.S. has been so involved in Kosovo, Bosnia and throughout the former Yugoslavia, has much to do with the immense wealth to be gleaned from oil. Construction of a major "trans-Balkan" pipeline is underway from Burgas in Bulgaria on the Black Sea, through Macedonia, to the Albanian Adriatic port of Vlore. It is being built by U.S.-owned Albanian-Macedonia-Bulgarian Oil Corporation (AMBO).
The AMBO trans-Balkan pipeline will make all countries from the Caspian Sea to the Balkans politically and economically dependent on the U.S.
The transport of oil through the Balkans is not the only consideration for the giant oil cartels. They are also pursuing the development of rich petroleum fields in various parts of the Balkan region itself, especially in Albania.
The feasibility study giving the green light to the AMBO project was largely paid for by U.S taxpayers.
The Guardian of London, reported: "While the U.S. and NATO - and now the [European Union (E.U.)] - hold out the prospect of untold wealth for the Caucasian states of the former Soviet Union, the West will also have an important economic stake in Albania and Macedonia ... The implications for Kosovo, a Serbian province with an overwhelming ethnic Albanian population, and for Macedonia, with its restless Albanian Kosovo population, are potentially immense. Upon close examination, one discovers that the giant oil companies continue to be deeply involved in most of the conflicts in the world, including in efforts to destroy national sovereignty and break up nations. More often than not, U.S. government and military policies back them up. In the case of the southern Balkans, the intent may well be to establish a "Greater Albania" to advance the interests of the oil conglomerates."
Time passes and in 2004 the BBC reported...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4130271.stm

In 1996, Sean Gervasi, at the Conference on the Enlargement of NATO in Eastern Europe and the Mediterrenean held in Prague,
first warned of the potential for NATO to serve as the military security force for this globalist New World Order. His paper, “Why is NATO in Yugoslavia,” demonstrated that Yugoslavia stands at the crossroads of a oil trade and transportation route combining Emperor Charlemagne's dream of a great European waterway with the fabled Silk Road."

President Bill Clinton said, “If we're going to have a strong economic relationship that includes our ability to sell around the world, Europe has got to be a key.”

It's about oil not Bondsteel.

Yezzz. Spot on. We are after the Serbs and NATO is supporting us. The fact is that NATO is so scared of that mighty nation of the Serbs that it is planing to build us states all around them in order to control them and destroy them! This is more or less what your government seems to be suggesting and like many other things coming from those quarters lately it is ridiculous. It also suggests that you guys have a very inflated opinnion of yourselves.Last time I checked Slovakia, Greece and Spain were members of NAto and were not in favour of independence for Kosovo. Many here even suggested that most EU members are not in favour which makes the situation really strange given that most EU members are also NATO members. How do you square that circle I wonder?
It sounds suspiciously like Soviet type Cold War propaganda to me, like something uncle Putin might have suggested perhaps?

Rade

As Cvele said in a recent post, NATO can keep Bondsteel. Problem solved. By the way, posters supporting the Kosovo Albanian leadership would do well to note that NATO's statements now eerily echo those of Europe and Russia.

Food for thought for those that think.

And Nato honestly expects the world to believe them? Even the pro-Albanian posts in B92 admitted so many times that Nato is in Kosovo for Bondsteel.
