Big investement like this one proves two things:

1. The financial enviroment of the country is promoting foreign investements, hence boosting the GDP.

2. There is an adequate market segment for this big investors to make money, hence there is a big comsumer market willing to gain credit changing the consumers behaviour, for as it always was on cash basis but buying little and in may occasions no taxes paid, to credit with more spending, more taxes received from the state and more jobs to offer.

Keep it up.

You can see pictures of this and other Balkan cities construction at the skyscraper city site.

Although I'm also cautious about the monopolist Delta I'm personally happy about this mall. Up until now the major alternatives have been Mercator (looks big but in fact is small by world standards) and IDEA which is both tiny and claustraphobic more fitting for a small town rather than a major city.

Still, the government should keep a very firm eye upon DELTA.

I feel sorry for the hundreds of small businesses around the area going off because a super mega super huge monopoly all in one shop. No matter were people live or how cheap it will be, this will make the rich richer and the poor poorer, not only in serbia but around all the places this systematic huge shop pop up on.

You are quite ignorant of the ways of capitalism & the "US & EU" ways. If you are as pro-supporter of these two superpowers you wouldn't be saying what you do.

Who's the ignorant one now?

Although this is something that only intended to boost the lure of beautiful Beograd, this will lose it's luster over time. Just as many super shopping malls across the globe have.

Too many of these malls have products that are manufactured in China which is something that the entire world is looking at under a microscope - no worries to the small shoppes as they will continue to thrive as they have. This will be short lived.

Even though Delta has a monopoly over Serbia..I am glad that we will have this big mall here in Belgrade. It is better than nothing and the Serbian people deserve to have a modern nice mall in their capital city..just like all other countries. If waiting in bread lines brings nostalgia for you Lazar..we had that too here in Belgrade with Milosevic. I am sure there is some neo communist country you could move to..so this can be a answer to your dreams..As for the rest of us here in Serbia we look forward to moving into the 21st century. We find it ironic that you in the diaspora live in democracies yet wish something else for your home country.

Oh, well this is bad news for the local producers... they will go out of business and unemployment will go up even more.

And the americanistic culture of buy buy buy till you die will be further pushed onto our people.

Consume Consumers! Use your recently reacquired credit to drive yourselves into debt to the now legitimised market mafia.

Will Delta agents come to break your legs if you don't pay off their store credit card? ;-)
