To blackno1,
You asked: "If Kosovo(a)becomes independent country what is going to be the benefit for the simple people living there".

Freedom works. If you blakno1 lives in a country based on democracy, rule of law and free market you'll understand perfectly what will benefit the citizens of Kosova. But if you live in Russia I'm not pretending you to undertand.

At the mean time as September is approaching, prepare yourself for school which hopefully will contribute to cool off your head, and prepare you kids to live with the new reality.

It is more than realistic to expect Serbian forces to return to some parts of Kosovo in the eve of unilateral proclamation of independence.

I also expect Russian forces to enter along with us.

Kosovo may proclaim independence unilaterally and will never get U.N. membership. They'll learn impossibility of such an existence in the comming years.

“The Serbian government of Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica is in reality justifying attacking NATO right now.”

When its claimed that there are foreign elements occupying your territory, any self respecting country will seek to have it liberated. Serbia has shown extraordinary goodwill and patience over the last 7 years by not using force to resettle its own refugees whom have been ethnically cleansed under the supervision of Nato, and by not insisting that many other elements of 1244 be fulfilled immediately. The end game is obvious though to any serious student of geo-politics. The Albanians will be offered substantial autonomy since Ashtaari is dead, which they will, true to form, refuse, after which they will engage in a Macedonian style rebellion, perhaps putting Nato in their sights as well, and in the process cause Serbia to engage.

In this vacuum, Nato will have its pretext to leave (there are more pressing international problems for it to fix), and therefore amendments will need to be made to 1244, augmenting the number of Serbian armed forces allowed into the province. This is a job that Serbia is more than willing, and capable of doing to bring peace to all of its citizens including Albanians.

I think this is brilliant saber-rattling by Mr. Kostunica’s government, designed to deflect attention from the Serbian-Albanian family feud “paradigm” which the US has forced on us, to the true cause of instability in Europe and around the world, namely Nato. This is a heads up for the EU to sober up and change its adulterous relationship with the US and Nato in order to have a peaceful and prosperous Serbia as one of its members.

As long as Nato stays, there will be no peace. I am sure that Mr. Kostunica would entertain a UN contingent force, designed to monitor events on the ground, or even a force designed to work in concert with Serbian and moderate Albanian forces in KiM to bring peace.

UN + Serbian Forces + Moderate Albanian Forces = PEACE!

Marjan,

Good point, Albanian unwillingness to integrate was revealed in its full shame when their terrorist units started war there as well. The fact that Macedonia was ruled by one of the most peaceful humanitarians in Boris Trajkovski (a devout protestant), carried little weight in the Albanian plan to destabilize the country and create a greater albania.

This was a huge wake up call for America as Trajkovski enjoyed an excellent reputation around the world and was known as a peacenik.

How the tide has turned indeed. I sleep like a baby at night knowing that my beloved homeland remains eternally undivided because justice will win the day!!.

But more realisticly is a partition of Kosovo, northern parts which has never been under albanian control to the serbs and the rest to the albanians. Not an ideal solution as it rewards terrorism and violence from the albanian separatistic side, but nonless a more realistic soulution than the naive 100% of Kosovo to the albanian side.

Don't you mean "TREPçA." This fact disgusts me, there is a saying in Gjakova "Kosova build belgrade." This was true since your buddy milosevic (butcher of balkan) stole 1 million deutchmarks from Kosova (Trepça) on daily basis, and all of that money went to belgrade thus Kosova built belgrade.

Your serbian pride depends on money. That means if Kosova has no resources than you want out of there. The man has said it, the territory of Kosova is untouchable.

Srboslav your example that a minority (which comprises a majority in a certain area) is able to be integrated into its host country is a good one. There are many such places in the world.

I would disagree on partition though. In the short term it may avoid minor uprisings etc, but it is the Serbian way to hang in there for 500 years or 1000 years to achieve its rightful goal! This is why the Serbian populace overwhelmingly voted in favour of the inviobility of even one inch of KiM. Our leadership are making this zeitgeist known to the world. What appears as illogical to many of our Albanian friends, makes total sense to us Serbs.

The albanian presence in Kosovo does not even amount to a full century, which in hindsight is a drop in the bucket compared to our patient stewardship of our homeland for the last 14 centuries. We recognize that every inch of Serbia is Holy Christian land that must not be turned over at any price. This mentality informs all of our literature and poetry. It is also the reasons why millions of our forefathers died defending ALL of our land.

We have entered a new era where our own government is for the prosperity of the Serb community in KiM, not against it like in the communist years where a war was waged against Serbs in order to weaken the republic, so that jugoslavija could live. Those days are gone! With a government friendly to the subsidization and resettlement of the province, things will be much different in a hundred years from now, much less five hundred.

I would refrain from making predictions, but one ought to consider the change in political currents that our present-day history has witnessed for centuries. Serbs' policies used to be highly endorsed by the US during the Cold War while they have been adamantly opposed in the 1990s. Also, one should reflect on Oluja and NATO bombings in 1999 to realize that with substantial support of the international community one can attain goals despite their unethical premise. Europe can benefit much more from an economically stable Serbia with its mid-sized market and track of excellence in the past years than Kosovo to which they would have to invest heavily. Present-day "Kosovars" have little to show in terms of economic potential aside from selling Yugoslav-built properties to which it is questionable whether they are entitled or not. Instead of widening the gap between the societies, the leaders should acknowledge staying together as a more economically viable option for both. In additon, the world would greet this well as aid funds won't be squandered away. Finally, as difficult as it may be "Kosovars" should give the new and democratic government of Belgrade a fair chance to compensate for Milosevic's reign and provide for equality and prosperity for all.

The Serb position is incomprehensible to understand. Why the hell would you want to control an area with nearly 2 million hostile inhabitants ? You know that they will NEVER accept Serb rule even if the U.S. somehow reverses course and says that Kosovo should remain part of Serbia. Either you cut Kosovo loose or go in with tanks, there is no third option.
