UK troops "stretched but winning" in Afghanistan

British troops are stretched but winning the tactical battle in Afghanistan, the head of the British Army says.

winning? when you can't prevent the kidnapping of those 23 Koreans and then you can't even locate them to plan a rescue ..... this is indeed a hollow victory if London insists it is winning.

"Gen. Dannatt also called on the Post Office to offer free postal services to the families of serving members of the armed forces deployed in conflicts overseas. "

- I am all for the forces getting free post but it should be a fund that the Govt set up and not from the Royal Mail operating margins so that it is clear and transparent how much all these Blair wars are costing! I also very much doubt Royal Mail would do such a thing given teh Strike action that is ongoing and costing it heavily. This suggestion is just like the tax reduction troops in action have gained - it is an accounting fiddle to hide the true costs - maybe they should be paid minimum salary while they are out on service not just rebated a small amount of tax. Also a great deal of what is being posted through is actual food supplies even basics like pasta. Maybe the Govt should employ the Royal Mail directly to re-supply our troops properly!
