Despite spending all those years in Kosova, you should be the last person to tell people what they should beleive and what they should not. The future of kosova is not going to be decided based on what happened after '99 or during, and whose house got burnt. The whole of Berlin was in flames once, but that doesnt make the Nazis innocent.
You should look at the root of the problem as supposed to a few individual cases.

Roger7 don't always believe what you read or told. Both sides have different stories about what happen and how much they trusted so called friends on both sides of the fences. I heard stories that were unbelieveable. I ask question "where you there and did witnessed what happened or where you told this? Now i did see the rubble of houses that were burned for what reason i don't know because 1 i was not there to see what happened before post Dec 99. The owner was a Serb and was forced to leave Kosovo after NATO intervened. Was he paramilitary did he kill people? I cannot be sure, but when i was asked to escort him(i was a civilan there not military) to see where his home was because he was afraid. When he arrived there everyone on the street knew him and APOLOGIZED to him because of his house being burned, and his forced eviction. He spoke to the people in albanian they responded in Serbian he there neighbor and he showed respect and respect was returned. Even in the village outside the city people stopped him and spoke to him and invited him for coffee ask about the welfare of his family. Well they did not try to kill him nor did he. So Roger7 don't believe everything you read or hear. Yes terrible things happen in Kosovo but all people are not the same i will never forget that day and learned a good lesson from a old man. Again thanks Roger7 for the question i hope B92 will publish this as a answer to your question.

Mr. Ham,
One of the many reasons I continue to read the comments on B92 is to try and learn and understand the Balkans and its people. What do you mean by your comment that you were easily duped? Could you please explain further? Thank you.

LOL, Mike first of all Mr Miller i don't think you have met him personally sir and furthermore i don't hate albanians, i lived with them for almost 7 years, i was here in 1999 way before you arrived. I remember your group arriving at Camp Bondsteel and now closed Camp Montieth. You guys thought your job of guarding the guarding the base and tried to cause so much trouble for those who came on and off the bases. Oh dear sir please tell me why i hate albaninas when my best friends are albanians. I have friends that are Serbain as well i don't hate neither, everyone has skeletons in there closet. I think you hate Serbian people sir, because you choose to make all these comments in these forums like you are the resident political advisor. Now since you know so much about Kosovo or Kosova then why have not made a decision on the status? I am sure that you are not intelligent agent. Remember sir i know who you are and where you work. So i can tell you why you are at Camp Bondsteel and what you do. keep up the good work sir and keep commenting. i am sure fire back as soon as fire at me. Thank you B92 for allowing constructive commentary. Be careful sir what you are told because i was easily duped and so can you if you are not careful.

Friends of the Albanians, Hillary and Bill Clinton, should contact Mr. Surroi to get some campaign tips to help her as she runs for President of the US. Maybe Mr. Surroi could give them suggestions on where to buy a good tent.

Mr. Ham (jham),
First of all Mr. Surroi speaks very good english and I had the pleasure to chat with him on several occasions. As far as saying that at least your emlpyer does not allow you guys totag along, I find this ironik and reason being is , that; ' every gathering , especially a political gatherings are followed closely by Intel agents of various countries , icluding UNMIK, KPS and every Tom, Dick and Harry. I think that you really hate Albanians and would like to know the reason why?

Excelent move by Mr. Surroi and an excelent start for his election campaign. While our other leaders sit in their offices talking about "formal recognition" he goes out to the villages. Excelent timing.

I voted for him in the last elections, and although i had decided not to vote at all this time, after this i will vote for him again.

Mr. Surroi's "ORA" party is mainly an urban party with extremely few rural supporters and if with this march Mr. Surroi can get some of the rural votes on his side he might get enough votes to form a coalition with one of the other parties and become Prime Minister.

Also, when it comes to independence for Kosova, none of our leaders are "moderate" and neither is Mr. Surroi. In fact he has proven to be one of the most "radical" pro-independence politicians in Kosova.

he is also extremely intelegent and has very good connections.

M.Miller, how do you know he goes to all of places to see Veton speak to the people are the translating in English? So basically you are going of someone eles translation. I find it very interesting that you follow Mr Surroli around Kosovo and still stand your post sir. I don't think that your employer would allow you to attend this rallies if i am not mistaken. Because our employers do not allow us to attend this affairs. Unless you are going on your on accord. Anyway i hope B92 will publish this because you are acting like you are the resident expert because sir i don't think you have been there long enough to make a judgement on Kosovo.

Well, I don't know all that much about Surroi's politics, but I really like what he's doing here. Its kinda a way cool thing for a politician to do. If I were Albanian, that is the way I'd like my politicians to act.

Was he involved with the KLA? I'm guessing not? I know he's way pro-independence, but I assume most all Albanian politicians in Kosovo are. I know his father was instrumental in founding the Pristina University, but I also know a lot of those people advocated violence in order to gain independence.

Miller seems to think he's for promoting good relations with Serbs. If that is the case, he may actually be a very good politician. I still think I like Rugova, he seemed like a decent man who wanted the best for his people without resorting to violence, even if that wasn't successful in the short term. It seems to me the KLA's plan was to get a violent response from Milosevic in order to make the case for Independence stronger. I personally think sacrificing so many lives wasn't worth it. I mean, its all so pointless if the end goal is to join the EU anyways.

Hey, maybe it'll turn into some kind of Hippie Love Fest? I still remember the days when the Grateful Dead would tour and you could camp out and party all night. That was actually a lot of fun when I was younger. I'm too old for such nonsense nowdays, but most of Kosovo are youth anyway.

Of course Surroi won't ask Albanians if they wanna go to war for Kosovo. He knows the answer. It is NO because they have NATO who will fight for them. Remeber 1999.
By the way, if you knew to read between lines you would have read, it is about elections campaign. Everybody knows what K-Albanians stand for in regards to Kosovo independence and what K-Serbs stand for in regards to Kosovo independence. So why Surroi wouldn't know?

Mike I don't think you know that much about Mr. Surroi. I know the facts on the ground and have seen Mr. Surroi personaly going to areas inhabited with serbs and other minorities and speaking in serbian to them. Sorry, Mike but you got it all wrong on this one.

Mike

pre 16 godina

Dear Mr. Surroi:

Make sure you stop at Serbian villages and towns, as they are part of your government too. Make sure you brush up on your Serbian when you speak with them. Let them know you will consider them full-fledged citizens of Kosovo, in whatever capacity it evolves into. Make sure you let them know they are just as much a part of Kosovo as your fellow Neo-Illyrians. Yes, I know they're less than 10% of the population, and that they have all but boycotted any political life in the region since 1999, but if you really want to turn a corner in this region, show everyone the statesman you can be by extending your hand in true brotherhood and unity (cliche' fully intended).

Rade

""We are trying to establish intensive dialog with Kosovo's citizens about the basic questions related to the Kosovo status issue, and I would like to personally hear what they think about the problem,” Surroi said." Seems like there may be some serious jockeying for position in the Kosovo Albanian political scene. Agim Ceku was a wise choice of leader by the US. A man with the "Sword of Damocles" hanging over his head. It would be interesting if he were found to have, say, participated in the murder, forceful expulsion from Kosovo, etc. of ethnic Albanians that did not support the KLA. In one fell swoop, the KLA is discredited, the leadership is disbanded and a new, more compromise minded, untainted leadership is installed. There are goings on behind the scene, or they are about to happen. Veton is making his move. Note how Haris Silajdzic, the onetime CNN favourite has been sidelined in Bosnia. Once the dust settles and the extremists have done their job, they become a liability. I'll bet many ethnic Albanians, including some hardline posters on this site, will eventually be relieved to get a job, feed their families and stop thinking about high politics.

Canadien

pre 16 godina

I hope Mr. Surroi will ask his Albanians the question if they are prepared to go to war over Kosovo? I think the answer would be if not said publicly then privately 75% NO! Over half the Albanins in Kosovo are under the age of 21, they have their whole life ahead of them, to lose it over Kosovo is a fool thing to do because in the end even if independence were to be granted by the UNSC the Albanins would never truly have independence because the EU would not give it to them for at least 40 or 50 years, there would always be an excuse why the Albanians are not ready to go it alone yet, in the end the Albanins would turn on the EU and they would have made a complete circle to where they started. The solution is guaranteed supervision for as long as it takes of wide autonomy, eventual Serbian entry into the EU and then all this would matter no more! May the wise prevail.

Mr. Ham,
One of the many reasons I continue to read the comments on B92 is to try and learn and understand the Balkans and its people. What do you mean by your comment that you were easily duped? Could you please explain further? Thank you.

Actually Serbs make up 20% once all displaced refugees return to their homes. So dont u tell me some 5.3% Pristina statistic.
