But Lily, you know like everyone else knows that Rice doesn't have the authority to grant anything, in the same way as the US doesn't have the authority to redraw the borders of another country. Seems like your espousing wishful thinking rather than fact.

In my humble opinion, none of the representatives should be from countries that have direct interests in Kosovo. I propose a rep. from India, China, Indonesia, and South America. These are the most populous countries that would be most affected by UN, or un-UN, precedents. It would be the only fair thing to do. But would the US and EU want to play fair?

LILY
Rice knows that if US recognizes Kosovo they will have to invest multi-billions into it as well as keeping around 20k troops of their own there (as opposed to the current 2500 US soldiers that are station there). Lets see them pass that legislation in the US senate without a UN approval considering their current quagmires around the world. EU wont do anything to help without 73% of their votes going towards it (EU regulations). So lily dont be silly.

So with this appointment we clearly get the feeling that the west is still pushing for the Kosovo independence?
Yes it does mean that ladies and gentlemen. Ahtisari was booed off stage because he was going to offer great benefits to the Serb minority in Kosovo, Now we will see if Serbia should have gotten that instead of nothing.

Canadian,

For once I totally agree with you. Nothing will happen in those 120 days. It will be just a waist of time. After that the US will say "We were really patient with the Serbs and the Russians, we tried to accomodate them in many ways but nothing came out. So let recognize Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence".
Amen.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung is a bad choice. He is one of the architects of the 1999 NATO-YUGO war bringing him into this will just make things worse. The way things look now This 120 days of talks will never start so I wonder what will happen with Rice's promise to the Albanians that they will get independence after the 120 days of talks?

Clearly Ahtisaari has been a huge disappointment to the US!

Maybe it would be better to appoint a complete outsider - somone like Mandela who has no prejudice or involvement in Yugoslavia's collapse as would a Germany Foreign Minister!
