teni,

Serbia and Russia have proven to be victors so far over the US,UK and a very small number of EU countries. The US has failed terribly in Iraq. They are the most unliked nation "politically" in the world. And as a backup Serbia has China on her side. So I ask you what do you have to be so smug about, there still is NO independence for Kosovo nor does it seem likely to ever happen. You might want to note that this summer a 1 Billion dollar Russian natural gas pipeline will go through Serbia to heat much of the Balkans. Who has the cards in their favor now?

"Serbia has a piece of paper 1244, before that they had a constitution, before that they had Serbia and Montenegro before that they had Yugoslavia. If you fallow the pattern you will notice that they had a lot but it wasn't theirs. Same goes for Kosovo."

what does this even mean? that 'paper' is a legal UN document and kosovo has been a serbian country since the 13th century... not to mention that serbs and bulgarians have been there since 500-something A.D. all in all kosovo was a christian land throughout history. tito let albanian refugees settle kosovo to escape the albanian fascist regime after ww ii. then they became the majority only in the last 50 years. so if you 'fallow' the pattern, you would realize that serbs don't have any reason to reward those who are biting the hand that fed & protected them.

Serbia is doing everything it can to prevent Kosova getting it's freedom. Historically Serbia has never let anything go by free will. With Russia on their back Serbia might temporally prevent Kosova getting a statehood via a UN resolution. The end result will be that Kosova will unilaterally declare independence and after being recognized by a US and EU will join Albania as the only mean to enter the international arena as a country, since Albania already has a seat in UN.
Way to go Serbia with your loser politicians!!

Well mr.President, unfortunately it is too late for this kind of declaration, beside the fact that it is also, not too much credible.

“No country, no matter how powerful, can put its politics ahead of the United Nations".

And the man giving this statement has shown how well he has himself acted to help an UN organisation, namely the International War Crimes Tribunal.

Kostunica could make an example of Serbia, that after all it did in the past (Srebrenica, e.g.), it starts to respect UN again. Or better yet, he should have done that (delivered Mladic/Karadzic) years ago. Fair or not, he would have scored a lot of points in the eyes of the countries now so eager to give Kosovo independence. But no, talk-talk-talk and no action.

Victor is at it again telling the Serbs to clean their house of those as Victor writes “who have committed widespread atrocities and are just as free as thin air”. Victor your comment is thin air all right but let’s looks at the thick air of Victor’s lies by omission. Victor has learned two things on this forum repeating a lie often enough might be taken by some as the truth and by not answering questions posed he avoid exposing his bigotry.

What does Victor omit? Recent scholarly analysis and Croatian statistics from 2001 census “listed 380,032 fewer Serbs in Croatia than in 1991”. There were over 1 107 towns in Croatia that had a Serb majority the trace of Serbs living there represents 1 107 Lidice’s. Lidice in former Czechoslovakia was liquidated in 1942 by the Germans in reprisal for the assassination of SS Leader Reinhard Heydrich. The Serb villages and towns were destroyed "with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such”. Victor and those that he protects still have in their heads the ideas of the last century an ethnically pure Croatia.

The people from these towns and villages have been expelled and their property bulldozed so that traces of the people no longer exist. Cultural objects, libraries, hospitals, and the infrastructure have been eliminated. Even Tesla’s home and museum met the same fate and Victor like a good “Little Gobbles” tells small lies about the Serbs in order to shield the truth in his own backyard. Victor if you have any intellectual honesty you will see that what took place in Croatia never took place by design in Serbia proper. In Croatia ethnic cleansing “encompassed people, property and even real estate registries” Like I said previously in one of my posts the first thing that went up in flames in Dubrovnik was the church library while in Jasenovac the museum was expunge of primary evidence of the complicity of the Croatian people and the Catholic Church in the mass slaughter of Serbs, Jews and Roma people.

Victor some 124 000 Serbs were expelled from towns in Croatia where there was no war while there were no Croatians expulsions from Serbia. These who were expelled from Croatia had their homes and property destroyed under the eyes of Bill Clinton whose usual spate of Christiana Amanpour and CNN lies and hypocrisy were augmented by her husband to be Jamie Ruben who portrayed the Serbian People as the Slavs with a dark side using your type of lies Victor and morality where morality did not exist.

Victor, throughout Croatia Serbs were expelled like the Japanese in WWII from the West coast of Canada. The only difference is that in Croatia the so called collection points for deportation were places of execution of Serbian community leaders. Recent academic research show “that 10,000 people were expelled from their homes in Split, and 18,500 from Zagreb. At the Zagreb fairgrounds, there was a concentration camp at "Pavilion 22." Everyone pretty much knew what went on there. Some 200 people disappeared. Still, the largest number of people was killed in Sisak”

Victor your moral indignation has no bounds when it comes to Serbia but Kate asks you “Do you believe that the perpetrators of these [crimes where she includes the KLA and I add Croats to the list] should also be brought to justice? You may burn libraries Victor, you may change the land registry and you may lie about it but we know that the truth is in what you omit to say and what you refuse to answer. .

Teni - by your argument, any majority group of people can claim territory as their own if they have a concentrated population in a certain area within a recognised country.

This is obviously an unacceptable way to set boundaries. And if it was acceptable, and Kosovo did become independent, surely that very same argument can be used for the Serbs in the North.

The Serb government and Parliament are starting to lose touch with reality I think. They are starting to look like the Iraqi UN representative talking of great Iraqi victories with US marines in the background. There they are talking of the international community supporting them !!! and threatening measures etc etc and that they are gonna do this and that to the "separatists elemenst", i.e. the ALbanians of Kosovo. I wonder what "democratic" Serbia where Sesejl's party is the largest of all, plans to do with them? Anyway it is all a charade. These guys simply lack the sincerity and will to explain to their people that Kosovo is lost. Whatever the threats coming from Serbia and whatever Russia says Kosovo is gone. End of story. The K-Albanian will go to the talks, sit in front of the Serb team and...well I guess they might as well start making faces at each other 'cause there is nothing left to discuss really.
And Kate as for Serbia owning Kosovo, there are "facts" as you call them, and then there are facts on the ground. Let's see which is worth more.

Please stop saying that Serbia "owns" Kosovo. It's like saying "whites owned blacks during the civil war in the US" or "UK owned India".

A declaration, so what? Albanian parliament issued hundreds of statemets and declarations saying that "Kosovo is an independent state". Just words in the wind. The reality in the ground shows that Kosovo is neither independent or part of Serbia. Or it is independent and part of Serbia at the same time? (Man, I am confused). But let wait a few more months and see who will get better with this situation. Albanians which control everything in Kosovo? Or serbs which trying to procrastinate an inevitable process, are making their status worst every day. 50.000 colons serbs from the original 150.000 population of before war, have left already the country. More will follow them if the situation (the economic one) will give no hope in the following months. Serbia is hoping that leaving Kosovo without a status and therefore without internal and foreign investments, will succeed to change the mind of 2.000.000 albanians which have suffered serbian hate and persecution since 1913, to give serbia another chance. Another chance to do what? Re-persecute them. But off course. Look how they call them: Albanian separatists. Because the wish to make Kosovo an independent state is the indisputable will of 2.000.000 (or more) people from the total population of Kosovo.

"In his address, President Boris Tadić said that a united national policy for solving the Kosovo question has brought Serbia the support of the international community and created the possibility of new negotiations, without deadlines and predefined outcomes."

As it should be, regardless of the message coming via the media that it is a done deal.

If the US did tell, or infer to, the Albanian delegation on Monday that independence could be delivered after the 120 days of talks, this is highly irresponsible and inflames the situation further.

Such a promise sabotages the talks even before they begin. At least it now seems that the Albanian delegation is prepared to participate in further discussions.

The draft is clear and based on principles that Serbia's integrity will remain.

The new talks that need to be held must be held under the auspices that International laws are respected and obligated. Only a truly negotiated solution (unlike the pre-determined Ahitsaari plan) will provide a lasting resolution. Jaw-jaw must continue and the US option of war-war need not be persued if the EU with Russia takes the mantle of spearheading a 'European' solution.

What a waste of time for a few meters of land! The independence of Kosovo can be compared to a locomotive, when it travels at 80 kilometres an hour, it cannot be stopped. Independence of Kosovo, ONE DAY, is just as sure as the canicule will stop, ONE DAY, on Serbia.

I will suggest MM Tadic and Kostunica to make sure to bring to justice all the Serbs who have committed widespread atrocities and are just as free as thin air. They are far more dangerous to Serbia than Kosovo independence.

kate

Rovena - The difference is that Serbia actually owns the territory.

Victor - I agree that all perpetrators of crimes against civilians should be brought to justice and serve heavy sentences. There have also been many atrocities carried out by the KLA. Do you believe that the perpetrators of these should also be brought to justice?

Kate,

Please stop saying that Serbia "owns" Kosovo. It's like saying "whites owned blacks during the civil war in the US" or "UK owned India".

The colonialist mentality of Serbia (very muuch visible in your posts) brought Kosova where it is today.

Had they (Serbian governments) treated Kosovars with a little respect during the last 100 years, things would have been much better for both sides.

kate

pre 16 godina

Dardan - I strongly object to your implication that I am some sort of colonialist because I said that Serbia owns Kosovo.

I can rephrase to say that Kosovo is Serbian territory if it makes you feel better - but facts are facts. It's not a political comment, if it was then every map and reference entry to the province could equally be described in the same way.

How can you compare a statement of fact with the examples that you give? It is quite ridiculous and over the top.

You call 99% of people that want Independence, Albanian separatists (“Serbia will reject every declaration by the Albanian separatists that proclaims unilateral independence for Kosovo”) and you expect them to live under the same umbrella with you. I would say dream on Mr.

Time will tell, though what is see here is a waste of time & money from the parliament team, and Serbian people are paining for that. Wake up nation and live in reality.

Peace to Kosovo and Serbia!
Cheers,

Rovena

“Today's democratic Serbia does not accept that threats of violence are an argument for shortening the borders of legitimate democracy and violating the norms of international law. The threats of the Kosovo Albanians go strongly against European democratic charters which Serbia supports in protecting the interests of its citizens, including the Kosovo Albanians,” Tadić said.
Mr. Tadic, are you kidding? European Union wants independence for Kosovo, so the one that is going against it is Serbia (not exactly democratic, as you said), not Kosovo.

Kate what do you mean Serbia owns Kosovo territory?
Are you even qualified to give such a statement? or are you in here to provoke comments.
Kate You have nothing, Serbia has a piece of paper 1244, before that they had a constitution, before that they had Serbia and Montenegro before that they had Yugoslavia. If you fallow the pattern you will notice that they had a lot but it wasn't theirs. Same goes for Kosovo.
And by the way i hope you know who signed 1244 that Serbia didn't like at the time. The same people i hope will change it with out asking Serbia, Just like Serbia Changed the constitution with out asking Kosova.

The draft is clear and based on principles that Serbia's integrity will remain.

The new talks that need to be held must be held under the auspices that International laws are respected and obligated. Only a truly negotiated solution (unlike the pre-determined Ahitsaari plan) will provide a lasting resolution. Jaw-jaw must continue and the US option of war-war need not be persued if the EU with Russia takes the mantle of spearheading a 'European' solution.

kate

pre 16 godina

Of course that any resolution against Slovenians, Croatians, Bosnians, Albanians or non –Serbian will pass in Serbian parliament.
Mind you, this resolution remind me of the resolutions from 1990 passed form the colleagues of these failed politicians. Horrible. The end result was bloodshed, 100ths lost lives, 100ths displaced people, 100ths Serb refugees in Serbia. Those resolutions calling on Int. Law and UN gave rights to some people to massacre the others. Does this mean that Int.Law can be changed and interpreted according to situation? My understanding is yes!
Is this resolution a long term solution for Serbia? I think no
Would you consider long term solution Kosova as a part of Serbia when 2 mil people don want to be part of it? – No

Negotiations to please Russia will have to happen though I don’t expect any major changes in positions of K-Albanians and Serb. Prolongation is not helping at all the population in Kosova – Albanian and Serb.
Status Quo suit only the failed Serbian politicians that do not care what is happening with the Serbs in Kosova, they only want their seat to be safe

kate

pre 16 godina

Adriano - Why are you so shocked? I am stating a fact. Kosovo is still legally a province within Serbia. It's not just about Resolution 1244, it's about legal European borders.

I'm not trying to be provocative, but according to every map and record, this is the case. If it changes legally then fine, but that's how it stands today.

Fred

pre 16 godina

Serbia owns kosovo legally really? Question is what is getting out of that? Is serbia getting any Taxes from Kosovo? Not that I'm aware of.

Its like being married but the wife lives with another man, what's that's called?

you guys stop writing those nationalist comments but talk anout reality on the ground and forget the legal issue.

Peace to Kosovo & Serbia

Serbia is doing everything it can to prevent Kosova getting it's freedom. Historically Serbia has never let anything go by free will. With Russia on their back Serbia might temporally prevent Kosova getting a statehood via a UN resolution. The end result will be that Kosova will unilaterally declare independence and after being recognized by a US and EU will join Albania as the only mean to enter the international arena as a country, since Albania already has a seat in UN.
Way to go Serbia with your loser politicians!!

You may burn libraries Victor, you may change the land registry and you may lie about it but we know that the truth is in what you omit to say and what you refuse to answer. .

Serbia OWNS Kosovo
Kosovo is Serbia proper.
If you are confused about it then read a book on it. Just because KFOR is in it right now doesnt mean that they will be tomorrow. As soon as they are gone so is ur illusion of independence. For as long as UN does not pass a resolution on Kosovos independence, Serbia will OWN ever square CM of Kosovo and Metohija.

As far as I am concerned its the Kosovo regime thats like the Iraqi UN delegation speaking of their great victories with US marines and KFOR backing them up. We all know that no matter the situation on the ground is, it could always change. Its the legal documents and adopted legislations and resolutions that run the world. Not what some puppet regime may think in Pristina and not even they control Kosovo.

In defense of Kate, she is the sound of reason. She speaks of facts. She does not sound fanatical. She has real concern for the consequences of breaking international law and order.

I cannot say the same things for her detractors.

But no, talk-talk-talk and no action.

what does this even mean? that 'paper' is a legal UN document and kosovo has been a serbian country since the 13th century... not to mention that serbs and bulgarians have been there since 500-something A.D. all in all kosovo was a christian land throughout history. tito let albanian refugees settle kosovo to escape the albanian fascist regime after ww ii. then they became the majority only in the last 50 years. so if you 'fallow' the pattern, you would realize that serbs don't have any reason to reward those who are biting the hand that fed & protected them.
