Do you see a pattern here?

Yes I do see a pattern indeed! Since Slovenia were the first to quit multiethnic Yugoslavia, it should not now be preaching about a multiethnic Kosovo!

Indeed I do see a pattern here! Slovenia doesn't want to live in a multi-ethinic country. So it should stop preaching about a multi-ethnic Kosovo to others!

Has there been anymore news on the accusations that Ahtisaari took bribes? I have read some non-mainstream media reports that he did. Too bad these allegations won't be brought up on CNN. Is this just a continuation of the West's propoganda policies of the 90's?

every time a new politician supports kosovo independent all the serb camp are ready to scrutinies him or her,
what kind of politician would you like to hear from? because up till now kosovo is more on the international side than serbia and russias bilateral ways.
do you think all the world is wrong and you are right again, the same as all people in serbia are second class citizens if they are not serb.
i guess you are aiming for the sky to get over the fence, but use a better strategy than digging a tunnel.

Dane - Fine by me. YOu look after your own affairs in southern Kosovo, and the Serbs will look after their own affairs in a separate northern Kosovo still tied to Serbia.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

It's been over 10 years and a "multi-ethnic" Bosnia is only existent on paper. What makes anyone think granting sovereignty to Kosovo is going to immediately produce multiethnic sunshine, rainbows, and lollipops?

First work on stabilizing the region, and that may mean granting confederate sovereignty to Albanian and Serb sides, as is in Federation and RS. Second, work on building up stable political and democratic institutions in each sector, guaranteeing freedom of movement for all - this along make take a generation that hasn't been brainwashed on racist education policies about the proverbial "other". Once all that has been accomplished, and believe me, it will take a long time to accomplish, THEN we can start talking about building a multi-ethnic Kosovo.

This, coming from European powers who are loathe to embrace multi-culturalism in their own countries. Oh well.

Make sure you all have an extra drink this weekend - my birthday is tomorrow! (yes, I know, shameless plug)

That is your wishful thinking. Why don't you ask the K-Serbs whether they agree with you?

Gee, does Mr. Rupel have a problem with memory loss or is he just another unprincipled politician?
B92 reported just eight days ago that “According to its foreign minister, Slovenia’s latest take on the Ahtisaari plan is that this country has no stance on it.” Mr. Rupel stated, “Ljubljana had “no particular” position on Martti Ahtisaari’s Kosovo plan, and described the support it earlier lent to the proposal as “not Slovenia’s own, but an EU stance”.
Your behavior is unethical and you look foolish, Mr. Rupel. Like many political hacks in this world, you do your country of Slovenia a disservice in your position as prime minister.

Ahmet,

it would be interesting to know your reality on the Slovene acceptance of what ever the UN upholds - especially given that the only valid resolution is 1244! You asked to have your words marked and I have done that so lets be reminded of the reality you espouse regarding Ceku's visit to Russia;
"PM Ceku is going to Russia and Serb politicians are unable to sway Russians otherwise. I wonder what Russians would tell PM in close door meetings, and what would they say to Serbia and in public. Mark my word that the coin has two sides and that is what you will hear."

Double talks - all they are backing is a decision that is passed in the UN if the Ahtisaari plan is never accepted then they can say we stated that we accepted the decision of the UN still. What is more telling is " Serbia together with Kosovo" not individually but "together". SO the double talk is all there. The new UK govt. is still bedding in but it is obvius that they are starting change foreign policy tack and see multilaterism as the way ahead not unilateral imposed pre-determined solutions and I would guess Serbia's province will be an early test of the new UK Govt.

Italy is supporting Ahtisaari's annexation plan because it would pave the way for reintegrating first Istria and then Dalmatia back into Italy. The Croats have their arms twisted into publicly supporting it but they must have deep reservations about the prescedent that it would set. With this in mind it is ill-advised for Rupel to blindly parrot England's support for the annexation of 15% of Serbia. Rupel leads a population smaller than Belgrade that has three neighbours (Austria, Italy and Croatia) who all have historical gripes and outstanding territorial issues with his statelet.

"multi-ethnic"? It is time Slovenia and the West stop kidding themselves. A truly multi-ethinic society means different ethinic groups can mingle freely without fear .... the true situation on the ground in Kosovo is very different ......Serbs are congregated in the north and restricted to Nato protected "ghettos" south of the Ibar.

And Rupel should look at his own country. Yugoslavia was multi-ethinic ..... why was Slovenia the first to leave? .... be realistic and stop preaching about a non-existent multi-ethinic paradise!
