The Orthodox Church holds to the original teachings and values adopted by Christianity upon its inception. The Roman Catholic Church split from the original Christianity and made some changes to its doctrine that amount to heresy.

Ahmet Isufi, where do you stand to envision this debate as a match? The Catholic Church has committed some horrible deeds upon those it deemed as heretics. Orthodoxy however has a history of peace and tolerance. Perhaps you can tell us about your religion or ideology whose prophesy holds to similar values.

From where I am standing and reading all these coments , I am begining to enjoy the match. It remind me of Tayson vs Holylifield boxing match.
I have one question for Princip, what makes you think that the only tru churches are orthodox churches. To me this sound like you are an extrimist.

Hey Victor,

You left out the Croation priests' forced conversions of Orthodox into Catholism, the blessing of murderous Ustase & facilitation of the Rat-Line exodus to S. America for all Axis war criminals because they were "good Catholics". How could one forgot to list that disgrace for the Vatican and Croatia in this thread & on this topic and list the, relatively speaking, more trivial incidents of the Scorpians and Orthodox priests? Please, have some face and post more objectively.

"I am sure that all churches are not representative of God on earth. All have distorted the image of God through ages. God is infinitely good, and he will never ask anyone of us to harm others, as we see in Islam: killing in the Name of God, beheading innocent people, and doing evil in so many forms."
Victor, the Catholic Church has killed plenty of people in the name of God even in modern times. You mentioned the Orthodox Church but neglected to include the Catholic Church's influence on the Ustashe in the war of the 90's, and WWII of course. We still have many in the US, Generals even, calling for a "Crusade" against the Middle East. I honestly don't see a big difference between the violence of Islamic extremists and Christian extremists, both engage in terrorist activities and bombings and such. Why do you hate Islam so much if you work with Bosniaks? You sound like a radical Serb when you talk that way about Islam. I honestly don't understand where you are coming from, it seems very contradictory to me? If you are working with converted Bosniaks, please refer to them as Croatians or Serbs, as that is what they are if they change their religion.
Personally I find it amazing the Pope is making statements like this, its absurd really. After the forcible conversions we Serbs suffered at the hands of the Catholic Ustashe I think his statements are highly offensive. How long is the Catholic Church going to be pushing this sort of nonsense? Another 1,000 years?

Hey Roger, welcome to Orthodoxy!

The Pope too is human, and no man is above the rest.

The Patriarch is the first among equals, and we believe in Jesus and God. Amen-no one will change my faith in God.

The goal of all Christians should be unity with Jesus Christ. Those who use His name to divide are not worthy of being followed but those who use His name to unite are the true believers.

"Christian Orthodox churches as true churches, but suffering from a "wound" since they do not recognize the primacy of the Pope."

- that is quite a contradiction since prior to 1054 (year of schism) the Eastern Patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria were at one and equal with Romes Patriarch and without wounds but still did not nor see the Roman Patriarch as primate!! This was and still remains a egotistical human aspiration and one wonders wheter such a statement will not in all reality reflect as a wound upon the Patriarch of Rome for not appreciating the equality of the 5 Patriarchs.

If Catholic Christians read the bible they would see that the Pope is no more connected to god than they are. He is not superior, nobody is.

God is infinitely good, and he will never ask anyone of us to harm others, as we see in Islam: killing in the Name of God, beheading innocent people, and doing evil in so many forms.

The catholic Church is not the one to point at others, knowing its past, in particular the Inquisition and the 'holy' crusades. As for the Orthodox Church, during the war in Bosnia, we saw orthodox priests blessing the Scorpions.

I do not believe in churches, which are men's creations, but I do believe in God Who is Love, Charity, and I pray to Him every day. The Temple of God, his Church is in Our hearts, not in human buildings and institutions.

Oh dear. Just when the Vatican is making such headways in reconciling with the Orthodox churches and apologizing for all the crimes it committed against them in the past, this little memo has to come out. We never were under the direct authority of the Papacy, and we never will. I have tremendous respect for Pope Benedict, and I believe his efforts to continue to heal the East-West rifts are sincere, but the Roman Catholic Church should realize it never had sole authority of Christianity on Earth. Maybe this works in CCD, but to the rest of us, the pope is just another man with a robe and miter.
