Olf, read the article from last week, its very clear how this guy treats Albanians. His greatest crime is not arresting a Serb for firing a warning shot at some Albanians who were accused of stealing wood.

That's right, he didn't arrest the Albanians, he didn't kill them or dump them in a mass grave. He didn't beat them. He told them to leave the Serb alone, and he told the Serb the same thing. Yeah, he could have probably arrested them both, but in small rural areas, its probably best to try to calm tensions not make them worse.

Joe, if the mayor is calling for this MUP officer to step down, I somehow doubt he will get a medal. Is there some other way you think this should be handled? Sounds to me like democracy and minorities rights are being respected by the civilian government here. Do you think the Army should be brought in at this point to arrest the MUP officer?

I'm just really curious what you fellows think the appropriate course of action ought to be? The simple fact that the Albanians in the region felt that complaining to the mayor was the appropriate next step to take, and the fact that the mayor did in fact listen and is seriously doing something about it, indicates to me that the system is working and that Albanians there feel politically empowered and utilize the democratic institutions efficiently.

You're trying to take an incident where Albanian concerns are being taken very seriously and turn it into some kind of ethnic repression. Its such a strange conclusion to come to.

If this guy threatens a Serbian can you imagine what would he do to a Albanian. So much about the democracy in Serbia.
Serbia is still in dark ages together with Kosova

This is a continuation of the drama from last week. You know the one where the Albanians were accused of stealing wood from the Serb who fired warning shots at them. Remember the Albanians said they were going to write a letter to the mayor?

All it proves is that democracy, freedom of the press and the protection of minorities are alive and well and being taken seriously in Serbia. If that weren’t the case, then we wouldn’t be hearing anything about this very minor incident. Slobodan Draskovic sounds like a Serbian name to me, so I don’t think this reflects poorly on Serbia’s seriousness in dealing with minority relations in the region.

Look, in many States in the US you have full right to use deadly force if someone comes on your property, even if by mistake. Remember the poor Japanese exchange student who wandered in the wrong house looking for a Halloween party and was shot dead by the owner?

So the fact that some Serb farmer firing a warning shot over some stolen wood is getting world wide attention means not a lot of bad stuff is happening in the region. The most serious allegation against this MUP guy is that he didn’t arrest that Serb who fired a warning shot. He’s mostly likely going to lose his job because of it.

This incident could have happened anywhere in any rural area across the entire planet.

The police need to be under civilian oversight in order to have a checks and balance system in place. The police chief needs to respect the duly elected mayor of any area he serves in or else be replaced at the request of the civilian authorities. No Gestapo tactics need to be employed by police anywhere in Europe.

What a surprise! Democracy in Serbia, you must be joking, not as log as 40% is in favor of nationalists.

If they threat their own brother Serbs, think what do you they do to minority Albanians in that area.

Wake up Serbs and try to make changes not before its too late. Keep in mind ONLY one person can't do much, but there are more than. I wonder from where is he getting the orders?! I don't think its an unknown....

Afrim,
You are right. There are thousands of Radovanovic in Serbia in official positions backed up by the government in Belgrade. This "nice" guy Radovanovic seems to have the support of all his superiors. I would not be suprised if he would get a decoration for his "distinguished" services very soon. This is other example to illustrate that in Serbia nothing changed.

This case shows a strong argument why albanians do not want to stay under the rule of Serbia anymore. This shows why Kosova deserves independence because at the first chance the serbs get, they will start to do the same thing to the albanians just like the regime of Milosevic did.
After all of these, nobody can tell to albanians to stay under Serbia anymore.

I think this radanovic cop should be sent to that "school of democracy" and be taught a lesson or two about his role in a "democratic" society. Then again, he does come from milosevic's mup brigade that did nothing but force minorities to break from belgrade rule.
