The Slovenes are a good people and smart too. Most former Yugoslavs I know seem to have a favorable opinion of them. I think they may make excellent regional leaders for the Balkans someday. You all know they didn’t follow the EU recommendations for transitioning their economy to a market one, and they benefited greatly from it. I had the opportunity to speak with one of their friendly border guards during my 25 hour bus ride from Zagreb to Paris. Poor guy was very confused as to why some crazy American would just hang out and travel around the Balkans for a year, but helpful none the less.

no,...their only advantage was or still is, they are a mini-nation...
securing the preconditions to enter the EU is no big chanllenge for only one million people...it´s like a city in france, germany or britain...not more. without war-damages and other problems, there is not that much problems to adjust a "state" to a new system...

Not only that, the Slovenes were the only Yugoslav peoples smart enough to start planning years ahead of time for independence. Planning first, independence later, as opposed to everyone else deciding independence first, planning second.

No wonder they're in the EU already.

It is a shame that not enough people in Yugoslavia back in the 1980s were willing to go along with the Slovenian program of economic development. The Slovenians are excellent businessmen.

but what is with the boycott of slovenian products in the albanian mega-market???

janez at his best, firstly saying yes to get the two or three companies in albanian hands that are something worth, and then being realistic afterwards.

actually, having no position is a position, isn´t it????

Slovenia is pulling out and Albanians was saying that Ljubljana will recognise Kosovo independence for sure even without UNSC Resolution.Simular words came today from Montenegro, b92 probably didnt translate jet that one but as you see independence is driffting away.

You see how easily people "change" their minds? I think its time to cut your loses and negotiate. Don't let it all get to your heads. Just look at the Serbs from Krajina, they were greedy and wanted it all, in the end, they ended up with nothing. The same will happen to the Albanians if they do not want to compromise.
