My only home is that unlike the US you can still go to the ER for $10.00 or get a root-canal done for $25.00 after they are done privitizing everything. Though Economics dont allow for it, I still root for those who strive to make prices fair vs Inflating prices for to "Better the Competition to Make better products". A bottle of Hydrocodone is a bottle of Vicodine, and Asprin is Asprin. The sad "Make more/Spend More routine is never ending, yet still a necessity. If you want to join the EU. (I personally would rather see countries become economicly stable enough to avoid being bullied into joining the EU) But dreams are dreams.

Well said, i am an Economics student at Canterbury university, New Zealand. this is exactly what is needed to progress and transform into a free-market economy, and to utilise the capacity of these firms, and therefore the economy. On another note, Serbia's GDP has grown by 8.7% in Q1, a very desirable result. Hopefully this trend will continue, as well as a sufficient inflow of FDI to secure a high growth rate for 2008

Serbia must accelerate the pace of privatization in order to put these companies in the hands of people who understand how to develop their full capacities. As an American economist who adheres to the Chicago School of Economics I would like to urge some commentators here who seem to have gotten their training or opinions at the Groucho Marx School of Economics to stop embarassing themselves by engaging in economic dissertations when it is obvious that they do not have a fundamental understanding of how a first world economy is to be developed. No market(EU-US-Russia-China) is going to buy Serbian goods if the quality is of low standards so it is imperative for Serbia to adopt EU quality standards as soon as possible in all areas of economic life.None of the 27 countries which joined the EU became worse off after joining or else COMMON SENSE would tell you that any would have left. The EU is a VOLUNTARY group and any country is free to leave at any time. The EU works great as an economic/free trade zone regardless of whether it ever develops into a political United States of Europe. One look at the map of Europe tells you that Serbia is right in the HEART of the continent and belongs in the EU as much as any other country.
