«The propaganda war used to justify Western policies over Kosovo was unrelenting. We were told that 500,000 ethnic Albanians had been killed there by the Serbs (miraculously we are now given a figure of around 10,000). »

To understand this quotation, you need to place it in its context. Following the Bosnian war, casualties amounted to 250 000. Only now this figure gas been revised and the total casualties for the Bosnian war could be 120 000 and 150 000. Even the experts do not want to give a final verdict on the overall casualties total.

«Phillip Verwimp, one of the experts who worked on the report, said: "Many consider the number of 96,895 as the overall total of victims of the 1992-95 war in Bosnia, which is not correct. For several reasons, this number should be seen as an approximation of a minimum and not as a complete total." »

Coming back to what happened, all reports showed then that the Albanians were expulsed from their homes by tenth of thousands, and reports showed also the villages were burning and people killed alongside the road. To stop another genocide, the UN had to act fast. Milosevic knew that the whole planet was watching but it did not stop soldiers and paramilitaries to kill 10 000 and expulsed 800 000.

The Western nations who participated in the war saved the Albanian people. Of course, the Serb propaganda laughs today of the dramatisation of the events then, but again, having in mind what the Serbs had done in Croata and Bosnia, the whole world had to act fast, and the western nations did and crushed once and for all the joint criminal enterprise conducted by Milosevic who is responsible for the wars in the Balkans and all casualties of war, no matter the real figures.

I have posted this before but I have had the distinct honor to have met and broke bread with members of the 78th Mech Brigade and other unites in Vranje. I was a 'ride along' on a meeting between US KFOR and Serb forces to discuss ABL violations and joint patrols.

The Serbs were hospitable, warm, and full of questions about the comings and goings of Kosovo and some of their family members.

It really was a nice experience.

They should just scrap the armed forces altogether. This is ridiculous. The planned 29,000 active personnel is an insult to common sense. Serbia should have about 80,000 active personnel, further 25,000 active home guard and about 200,000 in reserve that could be called up and be ready within 48 hrs.

Just take a look at Sweden, Denmark and Norway and the way they've organized their armed forces. Sweden even has an all-female force! These three countries have virtually no threats to their security from a conventional attack.

Pan, the KLA< backed by the good 'ol USA, were the original bad boys in Kosovo-Metohija. They did some killing, torturing, raping, ethnic cleansing of their ow. In fact, they initiated it. Please read the following link, there are always (at least 2) sides to a story.

If US unilaterally recognizes Kosovos independence, the NATO troops will be an occupying force. Which would mean they broke R1244. They will be forced to leave EU will go into the south and Serbs into the north. Making this good news. As this is the most likely outcome.

It is a soldier's duty to serve with honor and this should be the fundamental reason for an army's existence.Serbia must choose officers that will bring the army prestige in the course of its duty.

MLKG,

I agree with you. The Serb army has a lot to do to restore its image. What the officers and their soldiers have accomplished under Milosevic's order has tarnished not only the army but the entire Serbian nation. I hope that the reorganization of the army will permit all, officers and soldiers, to have a critical look of what was done so it never happens again. The role of a soldier is to protect civilians, not to kill them.

Blacky: Your comment is so damaging to us Serbs, that I would almost think it written by an Albanian extremist...

The Serbian army is NOT going back to Kosovo (except maybe the northern part in case the province is divided).
These units have been stationed in Southern Serbia all the time since (and before) the '99 bombing.

The time of armed conflict is over. If Albanians would start a 'war with the UN' (your words) Serbia should be the absolute LAST to enter the conflict.
A decade of violence brought us nothing but misery and a smaller country. Let's not make the same mistake for the fifth time!

"Blacky" You have really a dark fantasy.Wat makes you think that Albanians will rise against UN and other foreign forces in Kosovo ?? Or is just a another "serb-nationalist dream" ...!!??
And second,i don't think that the world would ever, i mean EVER allow Serbian troops in kosovo. It really make me sad to
continuously read these kind of disturbing comments of wishing for violence and war.

Is there not enough of murder, torture, rape of the civilians committed by the serb-army to kosovo-albanians??

Leave those people alone, and free,so they can choose there own destiny..

Stationed close to Kosovo? Seems to me that it's perfect in case the Albanians rise up and start a war with UN. Then the US could say "Hey, you guys are on your own if you don't stop and the Serbs will be allowed in."

That would be nice, and it is not far fetched since the US is really not interested in fighting another war in the Balkans when they have Iran to deal with. The ALbanians on here are dellusional to think that the USA cares about them now. Believe me, a lot has changed in the 8 years since the bombing. One thing being September 11th. These people think they have some worth to the USA when the US has been notorious for giving up on former allies. The ALbanians were important before 9-11 when the world was simple, there was no war in Iraq, no coming war with Iran, no terrorist attacks everywhere, Afghanistan, North Korea firing off missiles and having Nukes now. The Albanians were used to justify NATO, which is now being used for Afghanistan, so that worked out great, and it was used to justify the invasion of Iraq, which didn't go so well.

Now they are pretty much unimportant. People forget that the Serbs were once regarded as the victims, then that turned around quickly. Remember when the KLA was regarded as a terrorist organization, up until they realized "Hey, we could use them." Then they weren't a terror organization. Something shifted very quickly.

I'm suggesting that things could shift again. If the Albanians rise up and start to attack the UN, you can kiss American and Western support goodbye. It would be like an annoying ex-girlfriend who keeps calling you even though you are going through a divorce and custody battle over your kids. In your eyes, you don't give a damn about some woman you once dated and had a good time with. things have changed. You have other things to worry about. So you brush them off when they give you trouble..... you know, the Albanians in Kosovo. They really have no purpose for the Americans in post-911.
