I don't want to belittle the EU, but it should really look at itself in the mirror and see its warts and blemishes first. Then it should resolve these problems, assuming it can given the disagreements amonng its 27 countries over basic things like the constitution and economics. It should put its entire house in order first being presumptuously presenting itself as an attractive option for Serbia or anybody else!

Serbia belongs in an economic/free trade zone of 500 million people and the sooner it joins the better economic life will be for all Balkan peoples-Kosovo included.A political solution on Kosovo will be easier to reach once all 7 CEFTA countries are actual members.Let us not forget the fact that out of the 7 CEFTA countries 5 have separatist aspirations.

Serbia does not really need the EU. It could play the game it did during the cold war and play off of both sides - Red vs Blue. However, this time it will be the EU against USA, Russia, China, etc.

"It is clear that in any transition, there are what we call ‘transition losers’, so there is an easy trend to exploit, but at the same time, you have to propose solutions,”

- One wonders while Lloveras sits in his Brussels office what 'Transition' is to explain for the increase of the far right flemish Vlaams Belang party in the recent Belguim elections??? Also why the new EU treaty agreed upon was all about ensuring no referendums take place in any member state - highly democratic!!!

I don't see why citizens of nations outside the EU should be any less sceptical then those within when the EU political elite espouse democracy but only if it results in their pre-concieved decision!!!
