it was quite amusing when Mr.Rumsfeld divided europe into the "new europe" and "old europe" ...but reading Victor´s comment about "new Kosovo" was totally laughable matter.

Victor disqualified himself by staying quiet, after being asked about Croatia.

«There is nothing constructive about his posts.»

On the contrary, Victor is the only one whi cites reports and documents showing all the crimes committed by the Serbs during the wars in the Balkans. I understand why you don't like him.

Victor,
it might aggrivate u to know that within 5-7 years of acceptance of making the pipeline from Bulgaria to Serbia then to Croatia would make Croatia sort of a puppet of Serbia with the reliance on Serbs to supply them with 40-50% of their Energy.

Also completly unrelated but how does your tennis player feel about this many Serbs in top placed rankings in the world? Im sure he is angry. :)
Walter GREAT POST.

Great post Walter. This guy Victor is hear just to antagonize Serbians. All of his posts are "Anti-Serb", whatever the subject. When I scroll through comments now, and I see his name, I just move on. I know it will be the same old about evil things that Serbs did. There is nothing constructive about his posts.

For those who are "pro-America" since the visit of bush to Tirana - look at the WHOLE picture & what Polt is saying. Remember if he says this about Serbia - just wait for all of the "wonderful promises" bush will do to Tirana/for Albania. So, go & cheer him and all the others. You run around with blinders on.

Just remember that these are just words and nothing more than that. KosovO is still Serbia & don't you forget it.

To the comment of Polt is American & you're proud of him - good for you.

Question(s) for you -

Do you live tax free in the States?

Do your parents who tried to live the American dream of owning a home, now have to work during their retirement just to pay taxes on their land so they can keep the house that they slaved for?

More importantly - Do you realize that this will be YOU in 20 years or less?? Guess not - unless you are part of the US government and are free from worries.

A lot of people fail to look at the WHOLE picture & you are one of them.

KosovO is Serbian land - hvala lepo i prijetno!!

Probably good that he didn't make the lecture otherwise he would've been faced with brilliant questions like "what if Texas decided to be independent"?
(betsy, Wednesday, 27 June, 2007, 19:37)

Betsy,

His answer would be:

"The US Government didn't kill almost 1% of the Texas residents, and bury them in mass graves in Washington D.C. It also did not expel 50% of Texas' residents to neighboring countries by force like Yugoslavia (Serbia) did with Kosovo. Also, the US is not undergoing a process of disintegration like Former-Yugoslavia is."

Walter, thank you for your post and for putting Victor in his place. Serbia has in history, and in both world wars, always been on the right side, while the others have always been on the side of evil. Serbia again today is on the side of justice and truth, while the others are on the side of revanchist propoganda and immorality. We know we are right, and we know we will win.

US proposes withdrawal from Kosovo, report
June 27, 2007 -- In a statement for the Serbian news agency, Tanjug, Serbian Prime Minister's Advisor Srdjan Djuric said that the government has received a proposal from the US Ambassador to Serbia, Michael Polt, in which the "US would withdraw from Kosovo".

"Serbian Government has for the first time heard a new interesting proposal presented by American Ambassador Michael Polt, that the US would withdraw from Kosovo along with the simultaneous American accepting of Kosovo remaining an integral part of Serbia,” said Djuric.

"Serbian Government is ready to talk with American officials on the presented proposal,” added Djuric.

American Ambassador Polt has not confirmed nor denied Djuric's statement.

Polt is wrong it is not rational to expect that the dismemberment of Serbia will fix all the problems of the balkans and it would make Serbs think more of the past not less as if that were some kind of problem anyway. Why must Serbia be a history-less nation that can be dismembered?

Nick

Cvele,

You are right, our argument is ‘only’ supported by the US, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Canada (and allies, Japan, Australia) + Former Serb supporters like Slovakia + Formerly undecided countries like Indonesia. While your argument is fanaticaly supported by Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela (because Serbia is a major buyer of their soap operas) and the Revolutionary Government of El Fidel.

You have only been able to cause so much trouble because of Russia. If Russia retreats everything falls apart.

Brian

Serbia should just let Kosovo go, Vojvodina go, Sandzac go, Presevo go, then it would have no problems and be a total utopia and the best place on earth. Why don't Serbs just make Polt King of Serbia. He knows how to make a perfect place. Why not just have the US take over?

I got a question for Serbs:
Do you really prefer isolation with Russia only for 10,000 km territory ? Why you dont look this issue as a long-term but just as a short-term. Just have a look the states that have strong relation with US , how they have progressed. If you think that Russia is a powerful state and will help you in the near future , that;s for sure wrong. Wake up guys, dont push away Americans because you will have a dark future.

Victor you have held onto your Croatian past and nurtured it in Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Vancouver, Madrid, Montevideo and the Vatican. People like you, Victor point fingers at others, while you omit irrefutable evidence about those who aided abetted and participated in dismantling of a nation for self-serving economic and political interests. One of your favorite methods, Victor, and that of Mr. Polt is to “speak softly and carry a big stick”. You, Victor, by your comments, hide the real perpetrators of the crimes in the Balkans– Croatia and NATO, by building a “Potemkin Village” of lies. You point with unsupported comments, at Mladic, Karadjic and Serbia while behind the façade you hide by omission how American Corporatism brought back the “tarnished Croatian soul” as a tool in the violent dismemberment of Yugoslavia and its social economy. You are naïve if you minimize the CIA and Croat Diaspora complicity in this Balkan agenda.

Yesterday the CIA released declassified documents which show how this organization conspired to subvert International Law using dollar diplomacy, assassination, misinformation, lies, fear, and war in order to promote the American agenda. Victor, you are either naïve or unable to understand that American corporatism has conspired with the worst element of WWII nationalism to divide the Balkans into a number of artificial and barely viable entities by installing client regimes in the region. Victor, even you must be able to see that these new regimes including Serbia will be dependant on Western Economic and military power for survival. This is exactly what the great powers want but you have been poisoned by nationalism to see that. America wants to impose an ongoing [American Policy for the 21st Century] series of economic, cultural, and political arrangements which will seriously be detrimental to the working people in this region.

NATO and America has manipulated the affairs of this region by using narrow nationalism and remembered fear from the past. NATO is playing off one national group against the other and one geopolitical interest against another in the name of Globalization which only benefits the developed nations. America [NATO] manipulates local actors to be their Trojan Horses in order to achieve their design. What is scary Victor is that people like you and many who post here see this policy as benevolent in nature when the record, as revealed yesterday by the declassified CIA documents represents the harsh realities of Western [American] rehabilitation of Imperialism cloaked in their often spoken word “DEMOCRACY”

You, Victor are either unable to or refuse to answer the questions put to you and support your position with evidence. Your answer to everything is accusation of others and repetition of the same unsupported comments and “pointing in all directions”. Let me ask you one more time is the evidence of Austrian historian Freidrich Heer that I provide below false?

“Austrian historian Freidrich Heer noted in 1968 that what happened in NDH Croatia was the result of "archaic fanaticism and pre-historic times". Pavelic, he said, was "a singular murderer of the 20th Century". Victor you refused to respond to a previous comment which pointed to this revival where Pavelic today lauded as a hero of modern Croatia; his picture (and that of 19th Century Ustaše ideologue Ante Starcevic) adorns the T-shirts of a generation of Croatians who were unborn at the end of World War II.” You, Victor, I am sure saw a link to a Video sent by Jovan showing this at a recent concert in Croatia but as we expected you did not respond.

Let me also ask you Victor if this is what I write is false? During the 1991-1992 conflict Croatians remained in Serbia and did not leave and were not maltreated while there was a flood of Serbs fleeing from Croatia. Indeed, Victor “many Croatians have fled to Serbia after opposing the new Ustaše juggernaut of the Franjo Tudjman Government of Croatia that organizations such as the Association of Croatian Journalists have been set up in exile in Belgrade.” And yet you Victor tell us “Serbia should look at itself and ADMIT finally all the crimes and atrocities committed by so many Serbs against entire population” It is you Victor that needs to look at your posts that hides the attempted genocide of a whole people and how they reacted to it. In every post, Victor, you misrepresent the victims on all sides by not calling the oppressors criminals. Your misrepresentation of the events is not a result solely of accidental misinterpretation but of an orchestrated attempt to deceive people to see the world in terms of good guys and Serbs.

How was this misrepresentation manipulated to convince people like Victor not to look beyond their TV news feed via CNN from the Croat capital Zagreb, the Muslim Capital Sarajevo and the Albanian capital Tirana? Every night we were treated to comments by experts who represented NATO and the American point of view while any comment that came from Belgrade was treated as communist propaganda. I saw it all Victor, Serbian dead represented as Muslim or Croat casualties, Croat actors on Zagreb TV representing raped women from Bosnia, a KLA terrorist claiming that her family was all killed in Kosovo when in later testimony she said I did what I was asked to do, a crying Kosovo Albanian mother telling CNN Christiana Amanpour on a live feed that the Serbs have killed her husband but when Amanpour asked her small son where his daddy was he said that he was with UCK. This segment was never played on CNN again.

Victor you often bring up Srebrenica and Vukovar but refuse to look at how over “1,000 Serbs, mostly women, old people and children, were shot, knifed, axed or bludgeoned to death systematically, one-by-one, in two main centers; one the Borovo Footwear Factory, the other the Rowing Club of Vukovar. Many of the bodies were dumped into the Danube, left to float down to Belgrade. And in many instances, the Croats took pictures, or recorded the deaths”

Do you believe in International Law Victor if you do tell the people on this forum how you justify the systematic violation of International Law and aggression against Yugoslavia a sovereign state, a member in good standing of the UN and a signatory of almost all the treaties since WWI.. Tesla who was a good Serb and a good Croat once said ‘The present is theirs; the future, for which I really work, is mine”.

The Serbs know that their fathers and mothers brothers and sisters did not die just for Serbia they died for justice and brotherhood. You are right in one point Victor Serbia needs to reexamine their future so that this discouragement does not put them to sleep but stimulate them to champion justice every time. Serbs must reclaim old friends but not at the expense of their dignity. Serbs need to expose and discard false friends and make new ones. Serbs know that they are under attack not because they are Serbs but because they are David staring in the eye of Goliath who has demonized their good character. Serbia you have been attacked by all sides three times in the 20th Century and you are under attack now. You need to energize until your victory is won. Justice is on your side.

Rusty - If cooler heads had prevailed, Slovenians, Croats, Serbs, Bosniaks, Montenegrins and Macedonians could have lived with each other in one country, but now they have six different countries to live in. Kosovo is just tying to follow the example and complete the breakup (or maybe BiH will still break into three parts, or Vojvodina will be independent).

Having talked to Mr. Polt on several occassions, I can only say that his comments are canned and are directed from Washington. His personal beliefs regarding Serbia (Kosovo) may or may not be in line with that of Mr. Bush, etc. Mr. Polt is only doing what he is instructed to do. I know that the majority of the people at the US Embassy there support the sovereignty of the country but they are not at liberty to state as such since they cannot go against DC. My belief is that the US has gotten itself into a sticky situation and they need to figure out a way to get out of it without compromising the sovereignty of a country. If cooler heads prevailed, maybe everyone could live in peace. I do believe that Serbs and Albanians can live in peace and with each other even if other nations are willing to disect a country without rational reasoning. Regards to all!

?????“The faculty did not in this or any other instance prevent the American Ambassador from saying what he thinks needs to be said. All we wanted to do was to make sure that no one politicized the speech,” a statement from FPN said.

It added that the FPN had invited Polt in a bid to mark the end of his mandate as the U.S. ambassador, and the end of the academic year for students of specialized U.S. studies, which he accepted.?????

I absolutely don't understand FPN. First they call a professional politicion to take a speech as a kind of celebrating moment for the students and for the professional politician too. THEN THEY CANCEL IT BECAUSE PROFESSIONAL POLITICIAN MIGHT (ONLY MIGHT) GIVE POLITICIZED SPEECH AT THE FACULTY OF POLITICAL SCIENCE.

Here's the gist of Polt's comments:

The United States, the greatest, biggest, most poweful country, and by that rationale, the most important country in the world, wants you, Serbia, a little poor insignificant country, to be a part of the Free World. Yes, you have crappy leaders, a dark history, and ridiculous claims to your own land, and yes your pleas and protests are heard but we're not going to acknowledge them because we speak English and can't understand Serbian, but once you essentially erase your own identity, turn your back on your culture, and realize how silly your history sounds to others, you will be welcome as a contributing member of America's global hegemonic sphere.

And he wonders why Serbia is still resistant to his Pied Piper tune.

To Bill 7
No one asked the Albanians in 1913 if they agreed with their territories being partitioned against their wills. When the Border Demarcation Comission came to determine the borders of present day Albania, half of the Albanian inhabited lands were left outside of the country's borders. It is precisely because a nation was forced to live in artificial borders since 1913, that you see the Albanians clamouring for independence now in Kosovo. Either you are of Serb origins, or a very very naive American. What goes around comes around...

Sometimes, Ambassadors have to present foolish and wrong choices of their government. But they must have diplomatic finesse. Mr. Polt has a finesse of an elephant in china shop.

Ambassador Polt knows too well that Karadzic and Mladic are not in Serbia. He also knows that Karadzic had a deal with U.S. government and it is in U.S. interest that he is never found.

Ambassador Polt also knows too well that independent Kosovo would mean Serbenrein Kosovo. Albania shows how Albanians deal with minorities. They disappear. Multiethnic Albanian-dominated territory is as possible as a wooden stove. Works, until it burns down.

Mr. Polt, let Aztlan go. And catch that Bin Laden at last.

Ambassador Polt,
Please find attached a portion of my seventeen year son's thesis paper he wrote for his 11th grade AP History class just last month. "Syndicated columnist Anthony Hall asks the hypothetical question, “In 50 years - in Texas (or California) - when Mexicans outnumber white Americans 10:1 and decide they want independence (to annex with Mexico much as many suspect Kosovars want to annex with Albania), how will Americans and its politicians feel” (Kosovo: wither)? Of the nine million inhabitants in Serbia, two million are ethnic Albanians many of whom reside in Kosovo (Serbia). President Abraham Lincoln argued, “Secession can pose a lethal threat to democracy, if a discontented minority can exit the polity whenever it is outvoted by the majority on an issue it deems of great importance, then the majority does not rule. In addition, if secession is considered as a real option, then a minority group may use the threat of ‘exit’ as a form of ‘voice’ that serves as an effective veto on majority rule” (Thomas). As in one of our core democratic values, popular sovereignty, where the majority rules, so too should this hold true in all societies. We Americans would never tolerate a threat to our democracy, nor would we accept a division of our country by internal or external forces. We are hypocrites to expect the Serbian nation to allow 15% of their country to be dismembered against their will". Is it no wonder that we in the US are viewed so poorly? Are we hypocrites?

What Mr Polt is saying is exactly what I have been writing for months. FIRST, let go of Mladic, Karadzic and other Serbs who have tarnished Serbia's soul. They are in Serbia's past; not in its future. And, as Mr Polt said and I quote: «Serbia should be more critical of its past.» Instead of pointing in all directions, as it has been doing since Kostunica's election, Serbia should look at itself and ADMIT finally all the crimes and atrocities committed by so many Serbs against entire population, especially in Kosovo where 800 000 of its citizens were expulsed because of a few insurgents.

Only them Serbia and the Serbs would look at Kosovo with a new look, as a NEW NATION with new hopes, a new direction, a new Covenant for both Serbs and Albanians, living all together with a new respect, a new tolerance, a possible brotherhood.

The Old Kosovo has gone! Let it go! Let the New Kosovo be, delivered once and for all of the bad days and the bad memories.

Mr Tadic has made a positive step this week by acknowledging Serbia's crimes in Croatia; and I hope he does the same for Kosovo and consider that Kosovo is lost for the Serbs, as Mr Polt told them: «Arrest Mladic, let Kosovo go!»

Princip, UK

Victor for many months many have read your comments and I would suggest you read back all your comments and consider how disingeneous your words actually are.

Why is Polt allowed to go around the country and make speeches encouraging the illegal theft of Serbia's ancestral homeland and the creation of a greater albania? He should be given a one way ticket out of Belgrade and sent home packing. Serbs don't need 'friends' like that. Can you imagine what would happen in Greece if the US ambasador there advocated an independent North Cyprus? Please, let's send him home so that the US gets the message loud and clear - Kosovo is not theirs to give away. They need to get the message that for once in the Balkans they need to do what is just and legal, not what the albanian or croatian lobby pays them to do.

Blacky

Serbia will do this after America pulls out of Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Kosovo; after it puts a couple dozen of their politicians and generals on trial for war crimes for the past fifteen years; and after it gives up southern California, parts of Texas, and parts of Florida to the overwhelming majority of Mexicans and Cubans. Then, and only then, should Serbia do the same.

The USA is in no position to talk about doing the right thing after the pathetic invasion and occupation of two middle east countries after 9-11.

As Americans say, put up or shut up!

What I say is what most of the observers say: Serbia has to move ahead, look at its past and try to build a better future fo all Serbs. Kosovo, heartland of Serbia, you say, is of no prerequisite for US ambassadors; then, explain, why the Serbs have deserted this beloved Holyland, abandoning it to strangers?

Salahadin

pre 16 godina

@ all Serbs or Serbian supporters.
Do you guys even consider it as an option that the whole world is right and you and your beliefs are wrong?
Please, think about it.

Probably good that he didn't make the lecture

otherwise he would've been faced with brilliant questions like "what if Texas decided to be independent"?

Hermon
What you consider "Whole world" and what we consider it are aparently 2 slightly different things. Your whole world listed could be counted with my 10 fingers. Remember there r 200 countries on this planet. Majority is on our side.

Serbia should just let Kosovo go, Vojvodina go, Sandzac go, Presevo go, then it would have no problems and be a total utopia and the best place on earth. Why don't Serbs just make Polt King of Serbia. He knows how to make a perfect place. Why not just have the US take over?

Brian

pre 16 godina

Polt is wrong it is not rational to expect that the dismemberment of Serbia will fix all the problems of the balkans and it would make Serbs think more of the past not less as if that were some kind of problem anyway. Why must Serbia be a history-less nation that can be dismembered?

Polt is allowed to go around Serbian country and say what is he always saying because Serbian politicians doesn't have enough courage to do so...

Victor,
it might aggrivate u to know that within 5-7 years of acceptance of making the pipeline from Bulgaria to Serbia then to Croatia would make Croatia sort of a puppet of Serbia with the reliance on Serbs to supply them with 40-50% of their Energy.

Also completly unrelated but how does your tennis player feel about this many Serbs in top placed rankings in the world? Im sure he is angry. :)
Walter GREAT POST.

«There is nothing constructive about his posts.»

On the contrary, Victor is the only one whi cites reports and documents showing all the crimes committed by the Serbs during the wars in the Balkans. I understand why you don't like him.

the web-link Walter is reffering to is:
http://www.juliagorin.com/wordpress/?p=914

it was quite amusing when Mr.Rumsfeld divided europe into the "new europe" and "old europe" ...but reading Victor´s comment about "new Kosovo" was totally laughable matter.

Victor disqualified himself by staying quiet, after being asked about Croatia.
