By the way, what is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization doing in Afganistan and Iraq - or even Kosovo for that matter. Seems like it has been hijacked by Washington to be accomlices in their strive to be world supremicists. Putin is correct in being concerned about their expansionism.

Mike its really simple...
Because most of those industies for natural resources and factories have been bought out by US and Britain for like literally no money. If Kosovo does get independence they can keep these industries, if not, they go back to Serbia since Resolution 1244 prevented them from being soldwas resolved. Thats why they r trying so desperetly to push for independence and no compramise.

Russia cannot justify to its public why they would let go of their stance on KOSOVO. They will VETO any and all resolutions leading to independence. Kosovo will forever stay within Serbian boundaries.

So they're nearly reduced to begging? Once you show your own weakness, the stronger power knows it can do anything. Rather than whinning every other day for Russia to somehow change its whole rationale for vetoing, how about providing a number of incentives for Russia to support the plan? Why is it that everyone seemingly attached to "solving" the Kosovo issue has no concept of the word "compromise"?

America....
used to be a great country of great people.
They gave us (the rest of the world) a lot.

Too bad, greed took the upper hand and a beautiful country has to fall into decay....

For all good past influences of America, i must say, i am sorry....

When reason goes out the window in favor of short term benefit, its a clear sign...

The funny thing is that the Albanians invested in "American" relations, while "America" as a bluechip was at her highs!!!!
To bad her price is falling like niagara waters...

Lowe, spot on desperation is very evident!!!

Why should Russia not stand by it's principled point - protection of sovereign territory as enshrined in international law, UN & Helsinki act??? Is this what NATO are all about and if so I doubt they will be getting Russian support - maybe De Hoop should be looking at why they (NATO) are in such a desperate position to now be pleading with Russia. Surely they should be the ones changing objectivs and should reconsider their clearly ill-concieved partnership in the terrorist KLA. But then they are dealing with those other "friends" of the US - the muhajedin who would later become Taleban & Al-Queda!

How the mighty fall!!!!

“Kosovo is found in the heart of Europe and has direct ties to the security of the continent, and NATO has a great responsibility for Kosovo."

It is precisely because of this that Russia should NOT just go along with the US led quick fix plan, rushing a resolution through ASAP.
(a) A province within a spvereign nation cannot and should not be annexed and turned into an independent nation;
(b) It is counterproductive for the US/ UN to speak of constructive talks at the same time as conclusing their outcome.

There is only one solution - to restart proper talks (not once a month get togethers led by a man who clearly had a prejudiced agenda). There should be a deadline, but no set conclusion (which to any sane human sounds ludicrous).

Nato obviously getting desperate. Because they are the ones who will have to confront any violence by K-Albanians. Not the Russians.

Not to forget Nato is already up to its neck in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The more and more I read of US, EU, and NATO diplomats constantly asking Russia to adopt the plan only leads me to believe one thing: They NEED the Russians to accept the plan, or at least abstain. If not, then they wouldn't be putting in this much effort, and delaying the vote this long. In fact, more time and energy is being put into having Russia agree to this plan than the energy and time that went into the peace plan to prevent the NATO bombing in 1999. That should tell you something. It should tell you that the US, EU, and Nato all realize that without a UN agreement, the future of Kosovo looks bleak. These statements only emphasis just how important it is to them, and it also stink of desperation.

If Russia meant nothing, and Serbia's interests meant nothing, then Kosovo would be independent already. Some Albanians on here will say "But Kosovo is already independent." And in some respects, they are, but Kosovo is still legally part of Serbia and recognized as being part of Serbia. So I'm very content with how things are going now, and if the Albanians believe they're independent already, then we don't need a Russian vote and we don't need to move forward. The status quo is perfectly fine if they truly believe they're independent. It makes no sense that a people who consider themselves independent would require a UN vote, or put in this much effort to have others recognize them. Unless of course... they know they're not independent without a UN agreement. I believe deep down inside, they know that, and that's why there is a push to have the Russians agree to the plan... which was bought and paid for by the Albanian lobby. But don't ask me, the German intelligence service reported on that. More on that later.... I'm sure there will be more on that later. Perhaps the Russians might like to use their great resources to investigation that allegation and further invalidate Ahtasarri and his proposal as a fraud.
