I shyly wanted to post the following comments:
1-USA fought a war for the liberation of Kosova and won this war;
Serbia lost the war on Kosova-has Serbia anymore any right to decide opun the Kosova's fate? It was lost in fightings against USA; The winner decides.

2- I read that Albanians started the problems with Serbs- so... tell me who destroyed Yougoslavia? I think the wrong policy of the Serbian politicians. Otherwise the NATO intervention would not have happened...and the international community would have no reason to intervene.

3- Partition. I read that you guys talk of partition. How come you talk of partition? Don't you feel pain for your craddle Kosova? How come you left your craddle and went away?
How come you talk partition only now?

Time for Russia and China to say NO! aka, VETO's. We just don't agree with you.

Go take care of your own backyard first, you have bigger problems there.

You have a KLA Terrorist Agim Ceku endorsed by the Bush Government trying to create an illegal Kosovo nation.

Mr. Polt let us be even handed here, through out the 90's myself and fellow American citizens were told that Serbs were 'baby eaters' and their leaders are 'worse than Hitler'.

Furthermore we have been told that they were to blame for everything in the breakup of Yugoslavia and that every other militia group or death squad are 'victims'.

Fellow Americans have very thin skin when it comes to name calling.

Hey Illi - How about all the Albanian crimes against the Serbs for decades, and the KLA crimes before 1999? You, as an Albanian have no right to critizise about crimes committed against the innocent. Remember, it was your people that started this fiasco and forced the para-militaries to exact revenge. You know the code in the Balkans - an eye for an eye. As sad as it is, we are all guilty!

About the Serbian rhetoric. The U.S. Ambassador should ask himself why is his President received a hero's welcome only in Albania? It's probably the only place in the world today where he could receive such a treatment. Remember the earlier protests in Germany and Italy? Not to mention his earlier trip to South America. So, Mr. Ambassador, you can feel the global judgment on the current U.S. Foreign Policy. And, as an envoy in Belgrade, what is it that you have done to improve the political aspect of bilateral relations?

I did not find Bush's statements constructive, nor do I find helpful the talk of a plan B where the UN gets circumvented and governments begin to make unilateral recognition. In many ways it will only make things worse for Albanian Kosovars to truly join the international community since it would imply that Kosovo would not join the UN for some time. If we talk about a Plan B, we should talk about a constructive solution instead and not about an anarchic free for all.

Addressing John's point, I find that despite the unfair or unconstructive proposals of the international community, it is also important to recognize that the Serbs are themselves largely to blame. Their leaders must swallow the hard fact that Kosovo will never be Serbia's and begin signalling to the international that independence is possible if only Serbia agrees to it. It would be a clear signal that Serbia is serious about negotiation, and then Serbia could embrace the main tenets of the Ahtissari plan PLUS a partition of Kosovo. (After any type of Serbian signal the UN and EU would have to also signal that all options are back on the table, such as partition.) This would take balls on both sides, but it is balls coupled with trust that lead to a negotiating breakthrough and agreement.

Producing this type of mutual agreement would truly set a precedent for other separatist conflicts since it would force separatist regions such as those in Georgia, Russia, Spain or elsewhere to accept that leaving could only be possible if the rump state agrees. If the parties don t reach such a deal, Serbia is losing a chance to end up with a part of Kosovo and achieving protection for Kosovo Serbs--it may be a partial victory, but it would earn Serbia some long-sought dignity in determining its future, which would then be increasingly tied to the EU. Similarly, the West is losing the opportunity to calm Russia as well as its key allies such Georgia from a separatist threat. Given this, the win-lose proposals of the Quintet look increasingly foolish and short-sighted.

Polt states “We respect Serbia’s stance over Kosovo, but we simply do not agree with it,” Maybe Mr Polt needs to respect International law first before he and his nation can respect anyone. Mr Polt is equally respectful of every nation since his nation does not respect any nation including his own. How can one respect an international bully?

the USA are authorized by the international community? that´s the best joke I have read today!!! =)

John the First

Oh my - Mikey Polt is disappointed in Belgrade's rhetoric. I guess he hasn't read any comments from Dick Holbrooke, Wesley Clark, and Maddy Albright. What a waste of a diplomat! Bush could care less about Albanians, Kosovo, or Serbia. And Polt, he has made some un-diplomatic statements encouraging Alabnian sepratism.... Nonetheless, it makes no difference unless we want to go to war, and the empire has rendered our army incapable of such. This was done by our own leaders to join PfP. So, we cannot blame Bush, Polt, or even the Albanians. We have to blame the Serbian politicians. Our alternatives are not better - the Undertaker? The Socialists? The Russians?

I can only pray that the Serbs re-invent themselves and become the proud Serbian nation that it was during our greatest generation of Serbs right before and after WW I. God help us as no else is.

Dino

President Bush is not giving away anything, he merely is agreeing with Ahtisari's proposal who was appointed by Security Council to resolve the Kosovo question.

It's ridiculous to think that Bush has a special affection for Albanians and furthermore wants to donate them a "piece of Serbia's land" as is commented out by Serbia's prime minister. I am an albanian and although I would wish that to be true, I simply cannot believe it.

Kosovo supervised independence is a decision determined by the special UNSC envoy after months of trying to reach a common agreement between two parties. This decision is even more supported by EU that, would bear the weight of controling a de-stabilized Ballkans if Kosovo remains within Serbia.

John 2

pre 16 godina

Joking and quipping aside, autonomy would be impossible to implement. It would take years to agree how that autonomy would look and how it would be supervised. It is easy to say we will allow albanians to conduct their own affairs, but when it comes to actually implementing it, you would need arbitration over every tiny thing. Kosovo had some sort internationally recognized status since 1913 and yet, we know what has happened. We must also not forget that the Radicals have said that they would never implement that status. And the only reason they are not in power is because the West would not agree to communicate with them. So, America is keeping Kostunica and Tadic in power. when the status is resolved (either way), they will disappear from politics... and then who knows what will happen
