This is great news! Ikea is an excellent employer and can provide a great deal of training for future entrepreneurs and introduce professional retailing standards. Please do not think of Ikea as simply employing clerks or warehouse workers, remember the infrastructure, logistics management, information technology, construction and marketing revenue which will boost local economies.

No one in Canada buys furniture from IKEA? Are you nuts??? You cant even get a parking spot at any IKEA store in southern Ontario. It's packed and the checkout lines are endless. Those stores generate more revenue per square meter than a Wal Mart.

Not only is the IKEA model incredibly successful in almost every country in which they operate, their founder and Chairman is one of the world's wealthiest men.
The IKEA expansion into Serbia will generate hundreds if not thousands of jobs and a economic multiplier in spin off benefits to the local economy.

No one in Canada buys furniture from IKEA and their are over two dozen super stores here. Wonder how they manage to go on year after year? Something about Furniture in a Box that just does not feel good. But as another poster said its jobs for Serbs so Great!

Very good news for Serbia!

It really needs to develop it's road network as it could become a good distribution base for IKEA's South Eastern European operations. They are an excellent company with excellent opportunities for career progression - get your CV's ready!
