Next day after Serbia accepts inevitable independence of Kosovo, Europe will start EU accession talks with Belgrade. Work hard and within 10 years Serbians will live the average European standards. This is the best you can do.

You said> Now Serbia's per capita GDP is less than Albania's..how far can it go?

Where do you get your information? Serbia's GDP is 45% greater then Albania's. Do some real research and find out for yourself. Albania is in the bottom 10 poorest countries in Europe. Now if you want to talk about crime, then Albania ranks number one in Europe, does that make you proud?

If the Albanians become violent and destabilize Kosovo then the Serbian government will not blame the West! They will blame the Albanians. If that violence gets out of hand and NATO cannot put it down and Serbian in the North of Kosovo are attacked and murdered, then Serbia is obligated to protect them and send in a security security services, by the way Resolution 1244 states that Serbia is allowed to send select police services into Kosovo. And a Albanian unilateral declaration of independence will be illegal since the UN did not pass, it so don't look at the West, EU or US to go to war with Serbia again. America cannot afford it and the EU and West certainly don't want to engage in war.

Kosovo is already independent, the demographic balance in on the side of the Albanians so the hopes of Serbian politicians of Kostunica type are really pathetic. Tadic is forced to follow up Kostunica cause he doesn't want to lose votes. I bet he understands how much damages is being done to Serbia. I wonder how Serbs are so blind not to see that they are aligned in the wrong side...and they are losing every day. Euroatlantic axis of power is not going to forget easily their attitude of defiance in tie-up with Russia..politics is a game played over long time...
This will lead to Serbia's weakening position in the long-term.

Now Serbia's per capita GDP is less than Albania's..how far can it go?

The way it is gonna be done is: Kosovo Independence without SC of UN. The Independence is gonna be declared any time now.

In a meantime Serbia should spend time thinking about Vojvodina, they also want to secede from Serbia.

Princip,
Repeating your slogans again and again will not stop the independence of Kosovo.
It reminds me of a young boy in France in 1959 before an operation. Apparently brain-washed by his parents he was still shouting "Shoot Ben Bella" (leader of the Algerian insurgents) and "Algeria will always remain French". You know the rest. Shortly after Algeria became independent. This will be the same with Kosovo despite the support of your friend Putin and the desperate comments of Cvele, Vuk, Peter, dragan and the others.

Interesting. The radical Serbs are quoting the UN Charter a billion of times trying to justify the presence of Kosovo within Serbia… but they forget that Milosevic’s government violated a document much more important, which is the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS BY THE UNITED NATIONS, when he sent his soldiers into Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo to amputate, kill and rape the civillian population.

John 2

Jovan,
Contact Group principles have been accepted by Russia and by Serbia. It's too late to talk to question their legality. Albanians have modified their demands in accordance to those principles. They could have asked to rule serbia and russia if it were free grab. CG principles should be respected. If you think Ahtisaari's proposal violates them, then please let's hear it why. Of course, Russia can block the UN REsolution without having to justify its stand, but as in the case of the bombing of serbia and Iraq, things will happen 'by other means.' You cannot stop the world going round on a technicality.

" Russia should be reminded of the CG principles, which she agreed on.
(John 2, Saturday, 9 June, 2007, 15:04) "

It is simple John 2.

The CG principles were based on 1244. That's why Russia agreed to the CG principles.

However Ahtissari's proposal seeks to nullify 1244, which in turn nullifies the basis for Russian acceptance of the CG principles.

Support for so-called "Kosova" independence is a facade. If the UN can't pass a resolution, they won't get recognition. The albanians should negotiate more realistically which is what Bush will tell them.

Independence is not the albanian demand. It is the proposal of UN envoy Ahtisaari, which is based on the Contact Group principles. Which principle does the proposal violate? None. Why did Russia agree on the CG principles and now does not like the proposal? It should have objected when the CG principles were adopted. Albanians have already made their compromise. Ahtisaari is not an Albanian. Russia should be reminded of the CG principles, which she agreed on.

It is an absolute waste of time and money. The Serbs seems to have lost the plot and are in panic for losing Kosova. The proposals coming recently from Kostunica and Tadic for "highest the highest degree of autonomy for Kosovo within Serbia" are unrealistic, too late in time and short-sighted. Kosova will never be part of Serbia again, everyone with a sound mind knows that. Any delay in finalising that solution will frustrate more and more the people of the region and the situation can get out of control. Then the next argument for Serbia and Russia will be to put the blame on the international community, as they are still the present to "keep the peace" in Kosova. That "peace" will be the Serbian peace. It would be more realistic for Serbia to join Russian Federation rather than forcing Kosova to be within Serbia. It will never work in the name of long term peace and stability in the region. Time will tell.

Blacky

pre 16 godina

What I find interesting, and something not many people notice, is that the Serbian side is working hard to find some solution and compromise. The Albanian side has put out no ideas and has simply demand and demand and demand. They demanded autonomy back in the 1960s. Got it in the 1970s. And if I recall, didn't the major or governor once say that Serbian women should be raped? Didn't Serbian churches turn into barns to keep farm animals? Weren't Serbs killed and attacked in the 1970s and 1980s? According to a lot of "Western" articles, all of this did occur. And yet, they had autonomy. Guess it wasn't good enough, right? Or were the Serbs oppressing them during Tito's time. LOL

The truth is, the Kosovar Albanians simply demand and demand and demand, and never really do much else. They cry about the past, but most of the people that they blame for the past are dead and gone.

According to the Albanians, you can still use the past to justify demands for everything you want. So with that said, Germany should be the size of Berlin, no? And their good friends the Americans should be missing California, Texas, and maybe the whole middle portion which would go to the American Indians, right?

By the way, ask the Albanians if they would be fine with giving up all the land where the Greek majority live in or the protions near Lake Ohrid where a majority of Macedonians live, and you'll see them say how there is a difference. Yes, yes, everyone can find a "difference" as to why their country shouldn't be carved up.

Using the past to justify the present, especially during peace time with a completely new set of politicians is pathetic. The Serbian side is trying very hard to find some solution. The Albanians remind me of the Palestinians. They are given so many opportunities to find some peaceful solution, but they demand only one thing and one thing only. Ironic that the Palestinians are now crying for the Israelis to return to the Gaza Strip because they can't stand the violence going on. In fact, the Palestinian and Albanian comparison works pretty great since the Palestinians came into Israel for a better life and better wages. The Albanians flooded Kosovo (Yugoslavia) for the same reason... trying to get away from their country. They are very similar.
