So Bush expects Putin to trust him...

Let's see: he puts "temporary" American basis in Central Asia and then he keeps them. He considers it normal to ignore the territorial integrity clasue of UN resolution 1244. Not to mention Iraqs weapons of mass destruction and all those other policies designed to undermine Russian influence.

International relations should be based on trust. But I doubt whether Bush knows the meaning of the word.

Where was the proof of derailed reforms?

Where was the proof of human rights violations?

Where's the proof???

Russian's currently are enjoying the best economic surge in their history. It really is a consumer market in Russia with purchases of appliances and real estate at all-time highs. They're developing a middle class. How's the USA's middle class doing...shrinking isn't it???

Why do people not believe that the USA and Russia are two sides to the same coin when concerning intensions of grabbing power around the world?

Milan,
If Russia would not have agressive intentions toward the West she would not care about that future radar station in Czechia. If I don't plan to attack my neighbor I don't give a damm if the police car is parked in my street close to my home.

Victor, Vladimir Putin is fully responsible for the defence of his country. Look how The USA has taken serious measures to guarantee its security. There are two systems created: the zonal system of missile defense and the The Theater Ballistic Missile Defense (TBMD). The second system is of vital interest to Russia security, due to a couple of reasons. First, a part of the system is the mentioned destroyers in Poland which can intercept missiles during their first and second flight phases, when they cannot perform evasion maneuvers. Therefore the system MUST BE DEPLOYED VERY NEAR "ENEMY" borders (how close are Iran and North Korea to Czechia???) . Now let’s remember the radar meant to be built in Czechia. This radar is intended to work for the TBMD! Its real purpose is tracking ICMB's starting from first SECONDS ( not hours ) of their flight, then space or naval radars could find the ICMB's much later. We will have no peace in Europe thanks to the US/UK

For once, I agree with President Bush. Putin is moving fast from democracy in Russia, and in a few years he could proclaim himself Emperor, as Bokassa proclaimed himself emperor of the new Central African Empire in 1966.

Power should never be put in the hands of arrogant and authoritarian men; they become a threat to their people and the world.

so long as New York and Washington are protected, who cares what happens to some Polish or Czech village? -- this is the US attitude! Wake up and read the writing on the wall before it is too late!
