Sladja, at least there are two of us that see through the ridiculous rhetoric, Independence for kosovo is de facto partition and there needs to be some creative thinking applied as this as a resolution is short sighted and will without doubt create tensions else where:- Vojvodina, Sanjak, Rep srpska, crno gora... The Basque region, Georgia... and the list goes on. its all very well lighting a fire but there must be an awareness of what may get burnt. Joe, does god really believe he is george bush?

Whats going to stop eastern Macedonia breaking away? (probably a deal has been struck with kosovo's independance). The macedonians have really shown their true colours in this, Serbia's darkest hour.

Albanians are quite ready to hear an apology for ethnic clensing, 15 thousand killed, 300 thousand burned houses and hundred of children killed.

Serbs need to be aware of the scale that their forces commited crimes against humanity.

One can not change the past, but an apology is a start for good relations. I personally feel that after independence and with Ahtisaris plan serbs in Kosova will have a lot more freedom than albanians ever did under serbia.

Serbs should not pay for what they did. But they should be honest and fair and be REALISTIC.

Tesla

Well what did you expect to hear from him? One thing is for sure. NATO does not have a realstic chance of tricking Serbia into the alliance. Serbia does not have to be in NATO to get into the EU. This is what it says in Wikipedia: NATO is unlikely to invite countries such as the Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland, where popular opinion and the elected governments do not support NATO membership. Now did they already invite Serbia into NATO and if so how's this possible when the public opinion is clearly against it?

Sladja,
Maybe you don't like the fact but he is the most powerful man of this planet....the president of the most powerful country.

Bush says the exact same thing about Iraq "There is no Plan B." His approval rating is less than 25% which mean 3 out of 4 Americans don't like him anymore.

This man hasn't got a clue. Someone should show him a map so he can see where Serbia actually is. With the great job he is doing in the middle east, anything he says must be questioned.

Max

This is probably the biggest setback for the 'independence' movement so far. To have George Bush on your side can have negative consequences

Canadian

pre 16 godina

Former US President Carter said the Bush is the worst President in US history. If Iraq is an example of what the US considered peace, than no thanks Mr. America you keep your peace. Serbia well do just fine without your vision of peace.

The Ahtissari proposal is "Our strategery for the Balkans". I can just hear him now.

Follow the petrol dollars and you will see why he is behind this vicious and illegal landgrab.

Well, God bles USA.
It's only one solucion for Kosova status: Independent Kosova.I can understend serbs, bau thay can not understend themselfs. We are anemies antill albanians get indenpendet, and serbs do not have rights till thay are anti-independent. Bat, when Kosovo get indenpendent, then serbs are gonna have all the rights.
We, albanians, did not have a rights from 1912,so we know that better then you.I hope and wish one day we gonna be good naybers. All the best.

Blackbird

pre 16 godina

The Ahtisaari plan was never intended to bring peace - that's just rhetoric. What do you expect them to do, actually admit that they're just afraid of the Albanians and want to appease them yet again? All they intend is to wash their hands of a problem the West exacerbated and leave it to the Serbs to have to deal with while the Kosovo Albanians continue to steal territory in southern Serbia, as well, working their way up the country, just as they are already doing in Macedonia and Montenegro. Anyone who backs the Ahtisaari plan is no friend of Serbs and de facto supports their annihilation.

Victor

Viva, there is still a lot of resentment towards Serbs in Kosovo, for all the crimes they've done, the atrocities, and the 10 000 civilians killed for nothing. It will take time to erase the traces left by the war, but I am sure Serbs and Kosovars will have to turn the page one day, and learn to live together again, with more respect, more tolerance.

Ahmet Isufi

i hope that; Princip, Svojegazda,Kate, Koshtunica,Nikolic, Mladiq and others have watched President Bushe's interview with Albanian TV channel. I have and listen to every word he said and I was very pleased with his comments.Even Russia knows that there is no return to the old Yugo days, becasue the artificial state of Yugo. no longer exists just like the old USSR is gone for ever.

Hah, lets offer albania Macedonia and croatia NATO membership for their support on completly distabilizing the region by tearing a soveirgn nation apart. I am no expert but is he joking or is he really that stupid to think this is going to bring about peace? Republica Srpska has already said they will claim independence from Bosnia if Kosovo is ever granted independence. Why is that not on news???

Jovan

pre 16 godina

maybe Dick Cheney or some other person "close to the US-government" should tell dubya, that Serbs do not give away presents, when it is about souvereignty and integrity.

and to Victor: your comment lacks logic ( as usual ).
there is no need for a "new country" for Serbs or Albanians. they already have one, it´s the Republic of Serbia.
you should start to understand that...

Here are my thoughs as an American with Serbian heritage: After 6 years of administration under President Bush, our unemployment is only around 4%, our annual inflation is only around 2%, our gross national product is growing, our tax base is growing, our economy is the best in the world, we have not been attacked since 9/11 - damn good I'd say. Thank you President Bush! Anyone want to compare your statistics with those of ours.

How would his guarantee to Serbs be any better than the one given by him to Iraq & the American public when he told them he would make life in the Middle East peaceful.

U.S. intervention in Iraq is far worse than it was under Saddam, this leads me to believe the possibility that U.S. foreign policy in the Balkans can turn out to be worse than under Milosevic.

Philip Davies

"The Serbs will have full guarantee to live in peace in their new country"

But that is the point Victor, the Serbs in Kosovo want to continue in their own country. The one they have lived in all their lives (apart from the tiny fraction born before 1912).

Victor

pre 16 godina

If the Ahtisaari Plan brings peace between Albanians and Serbs, then it is a good plan. The Serbs will have full guarantee to live in peace in their new country. This is a major step forward. This is better than a sentimental feeling about a piece of land which is an alleged cradle of their civilization.
