I am inclined to agree that the word 'genocide' is over-used. Face it, dirty murder is dirty murder whatever you call it.

The mistake is to try to have a legal definition of the word genocide. If we reasonably think it is genocide then it is. If we reasonably think it is not genocide then it is not. If we differ then it doesn't bring anyone back to life.

Trying to justify what has gone on by pointing to other genocides is pathetic. Before pointing elsewhere, admit the nasties done by your own side. Do that first, then (if you can still lift your head) you can look elsewhere.

Dirty murder has been committed everywhere in the Balkans. In the past it was mainly a dirty secret - the outside world could not see. Now it is not a secret - the world knows what has gone on and the world finds it dirty. That is why the Hague is a good thing - it brings a message that should be heard by everyone.

Even for a side that has suffered, there is no excuse for turning to racism. Accept that the killing is done by a few; it's usually the ambitious or the thugs. The majority of any population would find it impossible to commit those acts and they find murder disgusting whatever the justification.

I lived through years of frustration when good people in the Balkans felt powerless to stop the wickedness. It is those people who are now being supported by the force of law expressed through the Hague.

This is absolutely idiotic. History has always been unfinished story with interpretations depending on the ideological prizm of the interpreter. First, why should one forbid the discussion on what consitutes genocide, who declares what genocide is, why the same criteria are not applied to similar situations when different nations do it, etc. Should one punish Croats and Bosnian for claiming that Serbia commited genocide in the war in spite of World Court decision that it was not? Why killing 7000 in Srebrenica is genocide and killing 1 million in Irak is not? Why ethnic cleansing of Serbs in Krajina and Kosovo are not considered genocide and the etnic cleansing in eastern Bosnia was characterized as that? The largest ethnic cleansing in this century took place in Avganistan with 2.2 million Pashtuns fleeng to Pakistan and 1.2 million to Iran. Is that genicide? The term genocide is used to describe every murder and the word lost its true meaning. CIA conducted opinion poll among Germans after 2nd world war about the justice of Nurnberg court, whether Nazzis were guilty etc. Consistently overwhelming majority claimed that there was no justice. With Vojvodina law they all would have finished in prisons.

They can put as many laws and proposals as they want but the Serbian people know and remember the heroes who protected them while everybody else was stuffing their pockets and making propaganda!
