Ban Ki-moon joins the ranks of Albanian leaders making promises they cannot possibly keep. I bet this guy keeps a second residents somewhere in the USA, since taking the top UN job this guy has be America's greatest cheerleader, which is something he should not be doing. He does not work for America.

serbia DOES NOT and WILL NOT ever "OWN" Kosova.

Do you hear yourself? "Rent property?" I am not even going to respond to that comment.

A country can't be OWNED.

To the person who mentioned me apologizing bc I wasn't sincere. I assume (correctly) you meant "don't be humble bc I don't agree with you," which has always been a seriban tactic. How shameful.

Kosova will gain INDEPENDENCE mark my LINKS Right here

princip...

the phrase "most ancient europeans" was refered only to the Albanian Kosovars, not serbs of course.
scuse me for the "misunderstanding".

Princip, UK

pre 16 godina

Endri,

could you please let us all know what books you have read to think that "kosovarians" are the "most ancient europeans"???

The only thing ironic is that you believe such incredible fiction!

Endri

pre 16 godina

Things are going slowly but now remains just the last effort!
Even with the russian veto very soon we will have the "Republic of Kosova",with its own army and its own foreign representatives.
ironic, the most ancient europeans will have the newest european state.

Pavarsia,

Serbs don't think they own the world.
They just know they own Kosovo.
The majority of racists remarks DON'T come from Serbs.
And don't waste your time apologising when you're not sincere.

Philip Davies,
What good is it for the Hungarians to have a seat in the serbian national assembly if in their daily life they are exposed to beatings, abuses or discriminations? They ask Budapest more and more to intervene on their bahalf. When will they enjoy the same rights as the small serb minority in Hungary?

Canadian

pre 16 godina

To Nick,

You wrote: We have never been, we are not, nor will we ever be "People of Serbia".

If this is true Nick then you and your people are illegally in Serbia and should be deported to Albania, since Kosovo is recognized by the entire world as part of Serbia, a Provence, like the province of Quebec in Canada. Quebec is Canada and Kosovo is Serbia, get it?

Canadian

pre 16 godina

To Dominos,

Serbia does not want to rule Kosovo, they have always said that they will give the Albanians the right to self rule, but they won't allow the theft of 15% of their country! What part of this confuses you so much? People living in Kosovo are Serbian period! If they don't like to be Serbian, then they should leave and go to Albania where they could truly call themselves Albanians. And as for Martti, what the hell is he doing running around the world making a fool of himself cheer-leading his plan, his job was finished the day he presented his plan to the UN.

Boris,

I feel for you man, you’ve always been the Serbian voice for supporting Kosovo independence and were shunned by many of the nationalistic Serbs here, and now you get insulted by the Albanians you have tried so hard to work with.

Actually I believe there were laws during the Milosevic era outlawing selling Serb land to Albanians, correct me if I’m wrong…

Email me at lazslow@hotmail.com I am interested in buying Serbian property in Kosovo and will pay market value. I do believe there are others in the Diaspora who would do the same.

it´s like a reflex, I guess...

how comes, Albanians immediately talk of racism, if someone doesn´t say what they wanna hear?

I mean,I read no single comment, none, here since I am amusing myself on B92...was in any way racialist! do they know at all what racism is???
I begin to doubt that!

It´s just like a reflex, like they learned in school, "if a Serb says something to you, you must say it is racism".

as long as they mention racism here, it´s clear that they have no arguments.

Philip Davies

pre 16 godina

Pavarsia,

What specifically are your human rights concerns in the Sandžak? The Albanians of the Preševo Valley could have won a seat in the Serbian national assembly prior to this year had it actually contested previous elections like all the other minority groupings such as the Hungarians, Bosniaks and Roma.

Serbia is Kosovo, Kosovo is Serbia. It will never gain independence even if the UN resolution passes through. The reason Americans want out is because they r targeted by the Albanian terrorists living in our Great country. Russia will VETO because it could never explain to its people why it didnt VETO. Considering the publicity they placed onto it. No money in the world can make them recover from losing their face like that and they know it.

I AM ALSO SHOCKED to see that people think that Russia NOW is the same Russia as the one in the 90's. Which is the whole reason they will VETO. To show they are not.

Pavarsia

KOSOVO is SERBIA not alban. Get it streight and also understand that most we will give you and that is if you dont commit some large terrorist attack is Broad Autonomy. Which means you can govrn yourselves on our property. IE. like renting out an apartment building. Do what you want, we dont care, as long as we mine our resources. And yes thats what its all about. Boris,

You look like a good salesman. Maybe Kostunica should hire you to do his dirty job of partition. Hasn't it ever occured to you that Serbian majority in North Kosova is only by few percent. Do you realise that there are dozens of Albanian villages north of Ibar with 98% majority. So, what's your plan, sir? Take over 10% of North Kosova in return for 1% which is Presheva. Very smart indeed! Listen, email your plan to Putin, and maybe it might just be the safe face plan Russians are looking for to get out of the inevitable mess. Kosova should and will never be partitioned. Serbia can keep Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja.

As far as Serbs selling their property. You are absolutely right. And that should tell you how much they love your KOSMET.

If any reader (international) reads this they find themselves reading racist remarks coming in this website mainly from serbs. You serbs think that you own the world and that RUSSIA is going to solve your problems.
It doesn't matter if the Portuguese or whoever controls the UN, the USA is the main sponsor and has the most influential power.

Why do you think the UN can't sanction America or do something about America invading IRAQ?

Russia may veto the plan but only for its' own reasons--nothing as far as "russia loves us," crap.

Kosova has a lot of momentum and will gain INDEPENDENCE (mark my words). Haven't you noticed, the WEST is in control of Kosova, not russia.

All the comments and news that you hear/read about serbs saying "Kosova is serbian" well you ever notice how they never mention a solid plan on integrating 2.2 million non-serbs?

For a country that boasts about "human rights" and "democracy" serbia has a lot to learn. The Sanxhak area with the Bosnians or the Preshevo Valley that took up to 20 years to get basic HUMAN RIGHTS (like a seat in the parliament).

The Ahtisari plan gives a lot of rights to minorites and serbs need to stop living myths and dreams because reality is as presented.

An Independent Kosova one way or another.

Please comment and send feedback, but please no metaphors about religious myths or "if this and that than this and that."

I am certain Russia will not use a veto. If Russians truly cared about Serbs in Kosmet, than a veto would harm those they are trying to defend. A unilateral declaration, will simply push every Serb out of Kosmet. However, this appears not to be the worries of Belgrade politicians as long as they can score some points on the account of us remaining Serbs in Kosmet. Though I was totally against partition in my previous posts, in the end, I believe this is the only viable option that can satisfy Russians, Belgrade politicians, and a great number of Kosmet Serbs. Prolonging the current Situation is not in the benefit of Kosmet Serbs. If the current trend continues, Albanians will become majority even in the North Kosmet in less than three years. We Serbs in Kosmet are part to blame for it as well. I have noticed lately that our patriotism exists only if there are no good offers from Albanian buyers for our properties. The moment those offers appear our patriotism dies. I believe there should be established an international law to make it hard for Serbs to sell, as well as make it hard for Albanians to buy from Serbs. As long as that is not established, Belgrade politicians aim to prolong the situation will ultimately lead to a dead end. Trying to keep the entire Kosmet as Serbia is aiming , it's the same as trying to save a cake that has already been eaten. The partition proposal could give some fruits if Russians and Belgrade persisted before the current Ahtisari proposal is passed. It should simply be North Kosmet to Serbia. Presevo(Minus Bujanovac, Medvedja) to Kosmet. This should satisfy everyone and raise the prospects for lasting peace.

Haha, who is this guy trying to fool? The veto is used constantly at the UN!

1. US vetoes any resolution condemnng Israeli activities in the West Bank, Gaza, Southern Lebanon, or Golan Heights.

2. USSR vetoed any resolution condemning communist activities throughout the world

3. China vetoes any resolution that has the name "Taiwan" in it.

4. Clinton bypassed the UN in 1999 to invade Serbia, knowing he'd get a veto from the Russians, the Chinese, and possibly even the French.

5. Bush bypassed the UN in 2003 when invading Iraq.

6. France threatened to veto any resolution on the Iraq War

Dominos, if independence for Kosovo is a "done deal" why hasn't the deal been done yet?

Trying to claim Russia has no influence because its GDP is similar to that of Mexico is clutching at straws. At the end of the day it has a permanent seat on the UNSC.

A fairly poor USSR defeated Nazi Germany on the eastern front in WWII so money doesn't always equal power and influence.

The Ahtisaari might be proposing many rights to the non-Albanians in Kosovo, but it is no guarantee they would be respected. NATO has hardly had much success at safe guarding their current rights.

Guys, we all know that very soon Kostunica, Russian government and some of the commentators in this forum are going to look very stupid as the independence is a done deal.

Why??
There is no way Serbia can rule KS again as there is no support whatsoever neither form the locals nor from the international players (with the exception of some Mike & Mouse gov such as Russia and Greece). Additionally Serbia has no means to control KS whether economically or militarily (one of the poorest country in Europe).

And finally for those who still don't get it (and probably never will), international politics has been always led and influenced by the richest countries. Hence, as a reminder it is certainly not Russia nor Greece. Russia has a GDP of slightly lower than 1 tr USD, which is lower than Mexico's and almost similar to Netherlands, Greece is far from that. On the other Hand US has a GDP of 12 tr USD and EU about the same. Consequently I really don't see how is Serbia is going to defend its case with such a low profile supporters. When I say low profile it also human right record, democracy etc...

By the way it looks like you guys forgot that Russia also opposed NATO intervention in Serbia but failed obviously as always.

I don't think is worth arguing anymore about this case but I would strongly advise you guys (especially the Serbian ones who are form KS) if you want to live in KS you will have to accept this reality and welcome the fact that the majority in KS are offering far better rights than Serbia ever offered to the minorities and KA are determined to protect these right by all means!!

For you guys who don't want to accept the new reality god bless you as the current Serbia wont do anything for you guys.

Actually the timescale is even shorter - Ahtisaari is suggesting by end of June "Otherwise it's clear the international community has failed,"
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L30253354.htm
Ahtisaari seems to ignore the fact that there already exists a Resolution - 1244 which was signed and ratified after events in June 1999. I am certain the Russians can point out the fact that to ignore the existing Resolution 1244 - one that was signed and agreed already would imply that Ahtisaari approves of what has happened in Kosovo since! Moreover, that he is implicit in rewarding terrorism and the threat of violence against all the non-Albanians from the Serbian province of kosovo & Metohija.

Oh well now we must wait another 29 days for the penny to drop that Ahtisaari and his pay masters have failed in their attempt at imposing the dismemberment of a UN recognised member state. You would have thought he had got the message when things did not go to plan in December last year!!! I guess we might see a different perspective develop in the next week or 2 which will highlight that what Ahtisaari suggests he cannot get!! Only SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) objectives are possible all else are doomed to failure!!!

Princip, UK

pre 16 godina

Not sure how credible Ahtisaari is with his endless shifting deadlines - I recall he suggested there would be no change in his plans last October and that "his" plan was to be secured by end of 2006 http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/CrisesArticle.aspx?storyId=L09226730&WTmodLoc=World-R5-Alertnet-4

To now suggest July just seems like another of those silly self imposed but unrealistic objectives! There is and never could be the imposition of a dismemberment of a UN member state sanctioned in the UN SC - so why try to suggets it might be possible next month, ok the month after that alright in the next month - surely has the penny not sunk!!!

The West needs to stop raising false hopes and aspirations to one ethnic group over another and allow All the peoples of Serbia to get on with moving forward!

If Ahtisaari wishes to move on then he should be given a graceful way of resigning but this is making him look an even bigger fool. At least now in August he will realise that dismembering a UN recognised state will never happen. Sad to think he was mooted to get the Nobel last year - I guess in retrospect the final choice was evidently correct!

Why can't Marti just admit that the 'negotiations' were a whitewash designed to ram through a one sided agenda but the World moved on in that 18 month period and it simply can't be done now.

Time for substantive negotiations between Belgrade and Prishtina to work out how they can live next to each other in lasting peace and prosperity for all, whether either side of a border or not.

I am really astonished, is this all the old man can do? trying to put the Russians into the "destroying-the-UN"-corner?

well, my dear Albanians, if he comes up with that, than you don´t have to expect very much, I guess.

after all let´s make something clear: it´s the Russians, who are ( whether in their interestt or not ) arguing with the rule of law, the respect for UNSC 1244 and other international rules...

so, saying they are endangering the UN-credibility in any way is simply ridiculous!

kate

Oh well, if Martti says it should be so...
Ironically, he is doing more to undermine the UN than anyone, and should be reminded that even though he will be 'shocked and astonished', the veto is there to be used in extreme cases and Russia is totally within her rights.
If the attack on Serbia had gone through the correct UN channels in the first place, the veto would have been used, diplomacy continued and none of this mess would now exist.
His proposal paves the way for the independence of a province within the sovereign territory of a nation. This would be unacceptable to any country and against all international laws.
Taking land illegally and not respecting boundaries would discredit the UN and create a globally dangerous precedent.
He should now just pack up and go home - his job was to present his findings to the UN, which he has done, and it is up to the member states to decide whether or not to accept them.
I am sure he has a nice role at the ICG already lined up.
Besides which, much of his report can be used once it is integrated into some sort of annex to Resolution 1244 and takes out the allusions to independence.

Pavarsia,

What specifically are your human rights concerns in the Sandžak? The Albanians of the Preševo Valley could have won a seat in the Serbian national assembly prior to this year had it actually contested previous elections like all the other minority groupings such as the Hungarians, Bosniaks and Roma.

It´s just like a reflex, like they learned in school, "if a Serb says something to you, you must say it is racism".

Princip, UK

pre 16 godina

Princip, UK

pre 16 godina

Dominos

Philip Davies

pre 16 godina

Dominos, if independence for Kosovo is a "done deal" why hasn't the deal been done yet?

Trying to claim Russia has no influence because its GDP is similar to that of Mexico is clutching at straws. At the end of the day it has a permanent seat on the UNSC.

A fairly poor USSR defeated Nazi Germany on the eastern front in WWII so money doesn't always equal power and influence.

The Ahtisaari might be proposing many rights to the non-Albanians in Kosovo, but it is no guarantee they would be respected. NATO has hardly had much success at safe guarding their current rights.

the big problem now lies with the kosovo government officials how to explain the unfulfilled promises they have consistently given to the albanians. it seems that russia has stood by its firm principles. now they have tested a new missile of their own showing the US some muscle flexing. even sudan is now the new fighting ground for russia and china in one hand and the US on the other not to mention iran who is too tough for cowboy bush.

"the veto was “never used wantonly at the UN.”"

The UN is, has, and probably always will be, an executive club for Big Powers.

Boris

pre 16 godina

Pavarsia

Thank You
