Adoption of a resolution based on Ahtisaari’s plan would produce at least two worrying side-effects, Ted Carpenter says.

I am with Princip and I am also from this planet, a tinny country called Canada, you know the one near America, very small compared to Kosovo.

There is no ethnic nor historical account in the world for a "kosovarian" to suggest there was such a group would have to include all the residents who have in the Serbian province - i.e. Serbians, Albanians, Roma, Ashkali, Bosniaks, Egyptians (Balkans), Gorani, Janjevci, Montenegrins, Muslims by nationality, Torlaks - these are all resident in the Serbian province of Kosovo & Metohija and would all be "Kosovarians" with such an affiliation to the province. That said all these people are citizens of Serbia because they are in Serbia - it is a simple fact and I really can't comprehend the difficulty for some that they are Serbian citzens of ethnic-Albanian heritage. The sooner those individuals learned that the best way forward is intergration rather then disintegration and as Tony Blair said for UK ethnic groups "Conform to it" the sooner all will be beter off!

Nikshala,
We forced them to marry us. No you begged us to let you live somewhere and foolishly we did and now you are claiming it is yours. I dont think so. just because i let someone live in my basement doesnt mean that they can claim it to be theirs after a while.

you are right, you didn;t ask albanians to marry you. You just forced them to marry you, it was arranged marriage against the wish of the wife.

Valdet, Serbia never MARRIED Kosovo. Serbia IS Kosovo. Albanians from across the border moved INTO Serbia and are now trying to take it away. We built all the historical monuments, buildings, etc... We even NAMED it KOSOVO!... Albanians change 1 letter to "A" and make up the term Kosovar. Do not give me some BULL that the two sides cannot live together now because 3000 people died 7 years ago in a cival war. WWII was about a few THOUSAND times worse than 99 and how did we manage to live then? Cat caught your tongue?

many states of the UN were jadis part of an other soverain state:algeria, maroc, timor ,and so on
It will be just the same for kosovo,so this argument is a stupid one, because the will of the people to be or not part of a country is much more important and legitim than the will of a state that has done nothing to protect thes citizen from barbary but on the contrary has planed ,supported and excecuted the most horrible crimes sinc world war 2.Such a state has lost by sodoing any right to rule kosovo!

How about the fact tat after July 1st Portugal will be at the helm of EU. And they said they will make a nightmare of Kosovo for the US if the issue is still there when they come to power. Now US is not going to be at the head of the UN anymore. Sorry u had ur chance for indpendence. Now you are all Serbian citizens. Congratulations. :)

What are Kosovars? They do not exist? Got it? They are Albanians ok? Making up names and trying to be something that does not exist is so ridiculous.

There is no law in any country of the world that interference on the life between husband and wife. But, if the man starts to beat his wife and wife calls the police, than police will be there: prevent him, arrest, and later wife can break the marriage and as a result, with the court decision she will half of the house, finances, kids etc. Same was –is with Kosovo. It will be same with International Public Law.

Well Princip,
you seem to be the only person not only on this forum, but also on this planet, who still thinks, Kosovars could ever consider themselves "people of Serbia" (I was refering to this when I invited you to wake up - maybe you should make a leap in Kosovo and get in touch with the reality yourself, instead of loosing in meanders of improbable equations. Anyway, you seem moved by noble purposes about the Serbian state offering everything to the Albanians (we've heard so much and so often these words from 1912 till 1999). Don't you think that the first thing to do is to ask for the legitimation of that state from the Albanians? And are you ready to accept the answer: "No thanks, too late"? Put the discourse on this terms and the agreement will be very simple.

Don't worry too much when the independence will occur. It will be when the West and Russia agree. Ksovo and Serbia have absolutely no role on this and are only two game pieces. The only thing all players know for sure: Kosovo and Serbia cannot be together anymore.
And the game is approaching the solution. It doesn't matter if it is May, June or November (I really don't understand why someone in Kosovo is putting certain dates, unless they are coded messages or simple pressure). The only thing that matters is that it's slowly but firmly heading towards the solution.

And: you have USA/EU + NATO on one side and Russia on the other. Kosovo and Serbia mean nothing for Russia (but they are an excellent exchange piece), they mean too much for EU (EU enclaves) and NATO. And of course the USA has been investing there for many years since now. Expected outcome? All one needs is some simple maths. Got it?

Jovan

the EU in fact really owes something to Serbia.

the EU should pay for all damages that came along with EU-assistance in a illegal war against a european country.

they should not forget about their responsibilities.

but, besides that, there seems to be nothing the EU could offer for taking away serbian territory.
"Serbia must look into the future", they say.
it´s quite that, what Serbia is doing actually but without giving away presents, only some european countries didn´t realize it yet.

is this Cato-group or it´s writer close to the american president? =)
just a question...

I smell a get-out clause for the USA.

It goes like this: 'A Finnish guy(Marti) presents a proposal but then a well respected American institute(CATO) says this is a poor solution and we need to look at something better. Hey Presto! The USA decides to go with the advice of it's home grown boffins and Plan A-htisaari goes in the shredder'. Job done! Sorry Mr Ceku, Kurti is going to lead the coup and you will be running a Holiday Inn in southern California by the end of the year.

Though a very low-key voice heard in the USA on the issue, but resonable, rationale and based upon realities remark. Russia also believes that if an independent status is given to Kosmet, it will provoke massive exodus of Serbs from the province and trigger on "a March 2004 violence". Such a step would convert Kosmet into additional US military base and, possibly, into another US strategic ABM site in Europe aimed at a number of countries that does not deserve it. That is why another international mediator should be named who could propose a diametrically different "Plan B" for Kosmet, retaining it the framework of Serbia - a 100 percent independent and sovereign state, and a loyal member of the UNO and other international and regional organizations.

I guess the critque of such folly can only get louder and louder. It is now patently obvious that the imposed dismemberment of a UN recognised member state has failed.

Back to the drawing board and lets find a solution that is the best solution for All the Peoples of Serbia - including the ethnic-Albanians in the Serbian province of Kosovo & Metohija! The best way forward for all the Serbian peoples is in working together and understanding each others aspirations are in many ways the same - no need to create borders and walls but the best way is to pull these down and learn to trust and work together for the best solution available to all!

WIN-WIN is getting closer day by day!
