Ivan,

400,000 is well within moderate estimates of those killed by the Ustashe in WWII. Its numbers like 750,000 killed in Jasenovac alone that are suspect and most likely high. If you've read the German sources their estimates are around 300,000 for the first few months of the Ustashe terror, and no one can argue their love of numbers in such endeavors. My wife is from Krajina, and I can promise you that her grandfather's generation suffered terribly, and I've been to Jasenovac with him. In matter of fact, the Italians had to use force in order to protect the Serbian population from the Ustashe, and that is the reason for the current tension. The Croats and the Italians were fighting each other in WWII. The simple fact of the matter is the Italians were heroes to the Serbian people in WWII and that is why the Croatians hate them. They also used force to keep the Albanians from attacking Serbs in Kosovo as well.

However, you probably subscribe to Tudjman's logic and claim only 13,500 were killed, mostly Croatian dissidents.

Ed, while I condemn the actions taken by the Serbs in Bosnia during the 90's, it was not comparable to the crimes committed by the Ustashe in WWII, where true genocide occurred in an often brutal fashion. We are all familiar with the "King of the Cut Throats" who won an award for slitting over 1300 Serbian throats in a single night. Or the baskets of Serbian eyeballs being given as gifts among the Ustashe hierarchy. There was nothing like that committed by the Serbs in the 90's. In reality, Serbs make up 30% of the causalities from the war and they account for 34% of the population. I honestly do not believe it was as one sided as you are claiming it was. I've seen Mostar with my own eyes recently, I know what the Croatians did to their allies. Its completely destroyed, yet no one wants to talk about that.

@Nikola: Money and people are two different things. You can not apply a rate of inflation to people, only to money. Stop spreading lies started by the communists.

400000 Serbs? You must be talking about the fascist and the concentration camps they opened to torture and kill Serbs, Roma, Jews, and anti-fascist Croats, Bosnians, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Slovenes... How sad that Serbs took the low road and opened their own concentration camps during this war.
