Well Princip,
you seem to be the only person not only on this forum, but also on this planet, who still thinks, Kosovars could ever consider themselves "people of Serbia" (I was refering to this when I invited you to wake up - maybe you should make a leap in Kosovo and get in touch with the reality yourself, instead of loosing in meanders of improbable equations. Anyway, you seem moved by noble purposes about the Serbian state offering everything to the Albanians (we've heard so much and so often these words from 1912 till 1999). Don't you think that the first thing to do is to ask for the legitimation of that state from the Albanians? And are you ready to accept the answer: "No thanks, too late"? Put the discourse on this terms and the agreement will be very simple.

Don't worry too much when the independence will occur. It will be when the West and Russia agree. Ksovo and Serbia have absolutely no role on this and are only two game pieces. The only thing all players know for sure: Kosovo and Serbia cannot be together anymore.
And the game is approaching the solution. It doesn't matter if it is May, June or November (I really don't understand why someone in Kosovo is putting certain dates, unless they are coded messages or simple pressure). The only thing that matters is that it's slowly but firmly heading towards the solution.

And: you have USA/EU + NATO on one side and Russia on the other. Kosovo and Serbia mean nothing for Russia (but they are an excellent exchange piece), they mean too much for EU (EU enclaves) and NATO. And of course the USA has been investing there for many years since now. Expected outcome? All one needs is some simple maths. Got it?

I have really symphathy for those boys here who are telling the Serbs to "wake up from dreams" or to "get in touch with reality" ...

it´s really interesting! how long will the need to realize that they are being duped? I mean? how many deadlines have already been crossed?
boys, you should definitely find some new arguments, since it looks like someone is really dreaming here...but it seems as if it is not the Serbs.

think it over!

Oh My Dear M - I am not a bigot; perhaps, cynical and overly sarcastic. My greatest wish is for all the people in the region to live in peace, and that the real truths be brought to fruition, the war criminals brought to justice, including Ceku and Thaci, and the accepted lies like 10K dead Albanians be denounced as such - one innocent death is one too many, but the exaggerations tend to infuriate the other side. The revised history that the Serbs do not have claims to Kosovo is also sickening and to destroy any semblance of their history and culture in Kosovo is deplorable. So, sometimes I make far fetched comments from the Serbian side to draw the ire of the ones making comments from the other side. I am not for independence of Kosovo, but I do think that the Albanians in the region deserve special status. The Serbs in Kosovo and Serbia should have the right to visit the monastaries and Churches in peace and safety, which they currently do not enjoy. On that fact alone, I would never agree to independence for Kosovo because they are intolerent to the religion of the Serbs, and to their basic rights.

A society must treat all their citizens with respect and provide for their safety and common good. The operation against the Albanians exceeded the norms of squashing a rebellion, and pitted the two peoples against each other. The Albanian leadership failed to show that they were a mature government and failed to protect the Serbian community; even though, they had ample opportunities to do so. Also, I feel the US is not the one that should be the moral judge in this conflict as the Iraqi conflict, the events at the Branch Dravidian compound, and their treatment of Native Americans precludes them from having a say in how this matter is resolved by their actions against domestic and foreign insurrgents.

I wish for peace - and the only way that will be achieved is by a fair settlement for both sides, and I'm afraid that Ahtissari's plan does not meet that requirement.

Genc,

- I am fully awake and guess what - No Independence - even you accept that it will not occur in May despite the wishful desire of now !!!

So who is dreaming??? Your comments of unilateral recognition are more wishful thinking and I congratulate you on your positiveness but alas it would seem the folly is finally stopped. We shall see a new understanding coming from the G8 meeting!!!

From this article it is evident that Putin said that there is no need to push things to the point of no return that would have occurred by pushing such folly into the UN SC - "futile & counterproductive" as the Russians said countless times i.e. we will veto must have been audible to bush junior!!!

So the US and the liberal media spin place the best slant they can while trying to paste over the fact that there will never be such a folly as creating an independent entity that has no historic, ethnic nor economic validity for being!!!

Genc, keep hoping for the summer - no doubt you expect Nov 2007 now as a new final and never to be extended deadline!

Is it not time you accepted the Serbian State your in and made the best of all the opportunities that a progressive and democratic Serbia has to offer??? Certainly your positive nature regarding these ever changing deadlines [sic] could be better utilised in bringing a better economic future to the Serbian province!

Ahtisarri 'lite' (AKA Ahtisaari minus status - identical in essence to more than autonomy less then independence in so many ways) is clearly the compromise that will be accepted at the G8 summit - there are too many other urgent issues that require greater attention of the US and the German hosts for these 2 days such as Iraq, Iran, the Middle East, Darfur and Afghanistan and not forgetting the Environment - Merkels favourite subject!!!

Ahtisaari 'lite' really is the best way forward for ALL the People of Serbia and provides the best economic development opportunities for it's underdeveloped province of Kosovo & Metohija. Surely it is worth grasping and moving forward rather then looking to the past of what was promised but never achievable!!!

Why would some pro-Albanian poster steal my monicker? Oh wait - they steal everything that's not rightfully theirs.

There will be a big-time compromise between Vlad the Impaler and Evil George. Kosovo is nothing for them to get their panties in a knot over. The Albanians will be upset as they will not have independence as they envisioned, the Serbs will be upset because they will not govern 15% of their territory any longer...it's more of a Lose-Lose for everyone! Except the EU/NATO/Russian beaurocrats who will get rich running Kosovo into the ground and pillaging the place of its natural resources. Like the actor in 'Blood Diamond' said - 'God help us if they find oil here'. They will force the Serbs and Albanians to bond together like they did during the First Balkan War to evict the overseer out.

The Albanians will long for Milosevic's rule and the Serbs will see that the Ottoman's rule wasn't that bad compared to what's about to be in Kosovo.

I don't know what did they agree, but I think the situation in the ground is in the favor for Bush and amerikan administration because of a large consensus arrived in the world and the fact that Kosovo is seperated in reality. As I know till now only Russia as a big player is against independence. Some of posters here hoped for Sllovakia, Indonezia and some other states, but unfortunately for them, all of those countries changed their mind leaving Russia alone in this very difficult game against the west. I am not sure when exactly independence is going to happen, but I know it's very soon. Until then I am not going to post in this medium, however I appreciate the B92 efforts for a democratic and tolerant society in Serbia, but I don't want to take part in a hysteric discussion.
I will come back soon moment after independence.

So it's been reduced to a phone call? What next, they're going to text message each other over the fate of the Balkans? Haha,

Anyways, the big question that keeps cropping up is what kind of state is Kosovo going to be and how will it look post independence? Russia's apparent stipulations for a compromise solution have made this debate all the more interesting. No doubt a resolution will be transmitted via AIM emoticons or something :)

That 'concession' about UN membership moratorium does not sound terrible. Who wants to be a member of that cesspool of corruption (UN), where tyranies like Russia and China have an equal voice with democracies? As for deployment of Russian troops in enclaves, that is more debatable....

Spin, spin and even more spin. However, the hard facts are it is now the reality that this folly is reaching it's end it - NO Independence, NO ILLEGAL declarations, NO ILLEGAL recognition and thankfully No Violence from those who threatened it if their demands were not met.

Suerly it is now evident more then ever that the multi-ethnic and democratic State of Serbia as recognised as a UN member is integral and will not be partitioned. That being so ALL Serbians whatever their ethnicity need to learn to "conform to it" for the benefit of all and to obtain the best future possible for ALL.

Sounds like win-win is being formulated and getting closer - Ahtisaari "lite" is gaining ground - protections for all guarantored by the EU but minus status - since the staus is an integral Serbia!

Maybe the time to celebrate and eat cake in a new sense of reconcilation and trust is about to begin and ALL the peoples of Serbia can celebrate together without the creation of new divisions!!

Got it?
