I strongly suggest that Albanian supporters read the following article (link below) and in fact I suggest Albanians read the same article, perhaps they can explain to me how every word of it is false even though the author provides supporting links to back up his facts. I think that this article will open many peoples eyes and I am suspicious that the moderator of B92 may not allow my post, well see.

[A diplomat close to the Kosovo talks cast doubt yesterday on a report in the Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List that Russia, the United States and the European Union had reached a compromise on Kosovo. "I have heard nothing about such an agreement," he said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to discuss the subject.]

...so much for anonymity boys, it´s not worth even mentioning articles like this one here...

but the level of desperation must be very high, since something so doubtful provokes so many comments.

This report is complete rubbish.

Anyone who can find any facts in this report to support their cause should seriously question their objectivity.

to "Jurgen" the "german":

wouldn´t it be better to write serious comments? I mean, what for gods sake did you wanna say???

Putin is in a position, Clinton can only dream of. so, better use your brain and think ( whether this is not quite the usual type of misinformation ) instead of wrting cryptic nonsense!

The whole problem with the report is that it plays down the enormous significance of what it being suggested here. The US will be asked to give up NATO membership for Georgia and Ukraine in return for Kosovo. I can't see this happening, especially as Moscow will want hard and fast guarantees that the deal will not be broken in the future. I wonder how Kiev and Tblisi would feel about being sold out like this? Moreover, if this deal is done, it will be akin to the trade-offs that were done at the end of the Second World War. In effect a new Cold War will have officially kicked off!

Matthew

Hmmnnn, seems no one is questioning the terms of this “agreement”. Doesn’t anyone else find this a highly unlikely agreement to come to? Ukraine and Georgia not being allowed to join NATO forever? It just doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense whatsoever.

Objective Observer

If this is not true and I suspect it is not then Croatia and Javno should be more careful with their disinformation and anti-Serb propaganda.

It seems to me that Russia is trying to trade Serbia for Ukraine and Georgia Some commenters and me too had already forecast that Russia would had tried to use Serbia instead of defending it.

genc

pre 16 godina

Very credible, since Kosovo and Serbia have absolutely no relevance to Russia, compared to Ukraine and Georgia, if this is really the deal. And the Russian conditions are hard to swallow for the Kosovars (but they will have to), but absolutely digestible for the West. This is the sense of "supervised independence"

JHam

Well i think a compromise is in the works so looks like everyone will get something out of the deal the albanian majority a homeland and Protection for the Enclaves so i guess there should not be anymore accusations of the Serbs killing there own to blame on the majority who lives in Kosovo. Finally a win win situation.

If this happens, I say IF, than this would show to all of us in Balkans(Serbs and Albanians)how much world powers care about us and our future. If they have come to any agreement than I would like to thank god for this because as it is there is no future for Albanians(majority of population) nor for the Serbs and other ethnities(minoties)that live in Kosova/o.Kosova needs clear status in order for the things and society to develop.Up to now there are many things that are gone fine and people here are very optimistic that this would be a fine place to live for all, except for those that breed hate, like some with their comments here.I am sure that most the people, if not all, that write comments in tis site are not living in Kosova, have never been in Kosova or have no interes in Kosova.
Guys, come to Kosova and see the place for yourself and than write about it. Kosova has developed not in a western state at once like many of you would like to compare but to a little place were there is safety same as in any neighbouring country, of course, here are probelms like everywere else in the region and wide.Dont forget, this place was robbed from Miloshevic regime for 10 years. Kosova had factories that use to produce goods for EU countries. Those factories were build with the contibutions from our parents wages. These factories were robbed during the 90's from the regime.
Guys there many fine things in Kosova but there are bada things as well like in every society. Come to Kosova and see how people live and believe me you will find that peole live same as in evey place else. You would be able to see that there are Serbs and others living in Kosova,so, after all Kosova isnot such a bad place to live.

Russians solders. The solders who often use to ask for cigarettes from Kosovars, the soldiers who use to dig corn in Kosovo fields for 10 DM per day.

"Reuters quotes a Croatian daily and its sources "close to the Russian leadership" as saying Russia “would not veto a Western-backed UN resolution granting Kosovo independence if certain conditions were met”."

Yet another report quoting unnamed sources. Very convenient but I wouldn't place too much emphasis on it.

speaking for myself as an individual, i do not accept a moratorium on UN membership for kosovo/a, which after all is meant as an international body to hear and air ideas, differences and help foster policy -- and not to reward genocide and put down people. however, if my soviet i mean russian frnds are determined to inflict a moratorium on kosovo/a, i think in all fairness they should also pull out for 2 years, and if belgrade supports it, ditto. i mean what's fair is fair, right?

jesus, but i can just hear eleanor roosevelt, spinning in her grave, again...

Oh my serbian people what happened to your ally Russia? Jovan, Princip what about Putin? Did he became crazy? Will he say yes to Ahtiasri Plan?

ObjectiveObserver

If this is true it would be a painful resolution of the crises. Serbia would loose a big part of its territory. However Kosovo Serbs would be able to claim a partial victory by declaring their own independence and remain part of Serbia. It would be a draw. Nobody would initially be happy with the outcome but later on both sides would see it as a smart compromise. Serbia should keep strong ties with Russia. That's the winner.

ardian, prishtina

Really!?

So Russia will not put the veto? Oh how sad for those who put so much faith at their greatest friend, mother Russia.

God bless the independent Kosova.

noname

pre 16 godina

from in and around pristina there has been alot of speculation from Serbs as to what would Russia "get" out of the kosovo crisis. now we may have the answer: keeping ukraine, geogia and other former soviet republics OUT of NATO is FAR more strategic than kosovo, with the former as a corridor (fuel line?) to W. europe and the latter a gateway to the orient. kosovo will be surrounded by new NATO members - Albania, FYROM, Croatia, and hasn't been in the soviet sphere in nearly 20 years. it may have ALWAYS been Russia's agenda to bring down the iron curtain once again, albiet a bit further west than it used to be. i live and work among kosovo serbs, who fully anticipated this soviet sell-out.

Jovan

pre 16 godina

"sources close to the russian leadership" will certainly disclose something like this towards a croatian daily...

is that again some "news" to prevent the Albanians from starting a mess, B92?

this would be quite contrary to the stand the Russians took in the last weeks and months.
very low credibility, I guess.

Baskim

so so so the "motherland" gave upp your cause lol but hey dont take it personaly its just politics right and congratulations too al kosovars for the indipendence that will be signed in the security caouncil THIS week

Interesting... but i would like to see Russia's response to such reports. Many things have been reported in the past and very few of them have been accurate.

An interesting bit of the report says

"Russia would not veto a Western-backed UN resolution granting Kosovo independence if certain conditions were met”.

This is odd since the US has already said the UN report will not even MENTION independence. Are we to believe now that the Russians have insisted on the word independence being used in the resolution?

If this is true, this deal looks like very bad for Russia and extremely good for the US. Sounds odd since the US is losing its grip on global affairs and just at the time when Russia seems to be regaining the one they lost 15 years ago.

Princip, UK

pre 16 godina

This is wishful thinking on behalf of the "anonimous inner circle" i.e. ICG who probably paid the likes of juterni list journalists while pushing it via reuters!

Sounds very familiar to all the other spin stories of the past and I guess we will see in the next few days the real Russian perspective.

The real story is that there is no Independence and it is now certain nothing new will transpire at least not until the G8 - talk about trying to cover up and spin but the reality is NO Indepedence and Ceku promised again definetly this time in May - expect November timeframe soon!!!
