Victor, you are the biggest racist I have ever seen. I have lived in Canada for 10 years rior to moving back to Serbia (AND I'M DAMN PROUD!) and you think Canada is perfect? HA! Our people (and europe in general) don't belive in death penalties while some americans and canadians are ROOTING for someone to get executed. SHAME!

Victor

«Victor, Scorpions got maximum sentences according to the applicable law in that case.»

No, the six participated in the torturing of these teenagers - one was 16 -, and then the shooting and one was set free.

What does this tell you about serbian justice? This is a travesty of justice

«And especially to Victor who seems not to be able to stop spreading hate speeches but above all shows his intellect.»

Frans, how do you know so much about me? It's your first time on this board and the few lines you wrote don't show that you were inspired by Einstein either!

I know who is hiding under this new pseudonym. Don't think that you'll fool me...

As a very regular reader of B92 I need this time to comment. And especially to Victor who seems not to be able to stop spreading hate speeches but above all shows his intellect is not what you should expect from a B92 reader. Victor, as a Dutchman we were witnessed by the assasination, 5 years ago, of one of the most influental politicians and high rated to become the new PM. A few days before the elections (which his party afterwards won) he was killed. ONLY because of the shock and the fear this gave to Dutch society the killer was sentenced to live in prison. ONLY for that reason. Not because he was Dutch but because he had a high position in society. And those rules are applicable in every country. Even in Canada!

Victor, Scorpions got maximum sentences according to the applicable law in that case. Obviously you are not a lawyer and you don't know much about law and judiciary, so let me explain something to you: the horrible crime that Scorpions committed took place in 1995. As a general rule, all over the world, the applicable law for is the law that was in force at the time when the crime was committed. The maximum sentence according to the law at the time was death penalty. However, death penalty in Serbia has been abolished in 2001 (part of the Council of Europe standards). Therefore, as in the applicable law at the time next maximum sentence prescribed in the law, after the death penalty was abolished, was 20 years, the Court did what it only could, gave Scorpions maximum penalty. Djindjic was assassinated in 2003, and by that time, the law was changed and 40 years prison sentence has already been introduced, so it was possible to sentence Ulemek & co. to 40 years.

That was the only reason that Scorpions got 20, and Ulemek and co. 40 years, not because "Djindjic was a Serb".

Let's focus on the issue at hand, rather than other sentences or Victor's comments. 40 is the maximum allowable under Serbian law, and all 12 were convicted of this heinous crime. They deserved it, they killed not only Serbia's first democratically elected Prime Mnister, but years of Serbian hope. Serbia still struggles to get that hope back, and the Serbian people really need both the hope and a strong, charismatic and realistic leader now. I hope there is another Djindjic out there, and that he or she surfaces soon. RIP, Zoran. Justice, at least in this case, is done.

Victor,
As usual, you misquote what was written.
I did not state that little childrens deaths are less important than politicans.
And justice is not the same for all in any country. Political assassinations and murder of police and always dealt with more harshly.
You are too full of contraditions.
And by the way, I am a mother of 4 children. And as a mother I grieve for any child who is killed. Regardless of religion or nationality.

Victor

«Given that 40 years was the maximum possible punishment, this was absolutely the correct sentence.»

I have read this in a Serbian newspaper: «Omladina Demokratske stranke, kojima se pridružila i omladina G17 Plus, učestvuju u akciji pod nazivom "I četrdeset godina je malo", ispred zgrade Specijalnog suda (Beta)

«Forty years is not enough», says the banner, and I agree with the DS members.

Mr Putin know this but it seems that Serbs like Goran Svilanović have convictions of their own!
(Victor, 23 May 2007, 15:52)

Goran Svilanovic was the former foreigh minister in the Djindjic Government and one of the most moderate Serbian politicians. Therefore his rhetoric is the most realistic possibly more than even Cedomir Jovanovic.

For Victor, someone so full of hatred for Serbs the Serbian victims do not count obviously.
Victor you say that you are glad you do not live in Serbia then why are you so obsessed with Serbian politics and spend you day here writing posts?

@ Victor
Bosnian commander Naser Oric and his comrades killed over hundred innocent Serbian civilians (children, women and elderly) in the Srebrenica vicinity and got away way with only 2 years imprisonement. Now that is REALLY a farce. Or dear Victor, do Serbian victims not count?

Victor

pre 16 godina

Well, 40 years for a PM is not enough in my view. The killers should have gotten life in jail, until they die. With 40 years, they will be out before they have served 25 years of their sentence. Shame! What kind of justice is this? Justice is the same for all in Canada.

I've never heard before that a killer should receive a severer penalty because he killed a politician than an ordinary man.

The Scorpions have killed or participated in the killing of 3 teenagers - the youngest one was only 16 -, and they killing was videotaped and sold in boutiques in Bosnia and Serbia, and «Aleksandar Medic, was given five years, while the fifth, Aleksandar Vukov, the unit's deputy commander, was acquitted.» And no reason was given! And you say this is right because these little boys were only ordinary citizens! So, according to you, in Serbia, there is a justice dor the rich and famous people; not the poor and ordinary citizens!

I am glad I do not live in Serbia!

Christine

pre 16 godina

Victor,
How wrong you are once again.
It was not because Dindic was a Serb but because he was Prime Minister. Every country in the world has severer penalties for political assassinations then other murders. Thats just how it is.
Why must you cloud every issue with your hatred and prejudice of Serbs.

Victor

pre 16 godina

How ironic! The Scorpions who had killed 6 boys and men got peanuts for their crime! The Court saaid that it was barely an incident during the war. Two of the charged - Slobodan Medic, the former commander of the Scorpions unit, and Branislav Medic - were each sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murders.

Another Scorpions member, Pera Petrasevic, was sentenced to 13 years - a shorter sentence because of his confession, cooperation with prosecution and demonstration of 'remorse'. The fourth defendant, Aleksandar Medic, was given five years, while the fifth, Aleksandar Vukov, the unit's deputy commander, was acquitted.

This is the Serbian justice at its best! WHAT A FARCE!

But, because Dindic was a Serb, his killers got 40 years. Was it more than a political incident... as so many happened before in Serbia?
