Gjergj,
How correct your comment is.
My family in Belgrade, Sabac,
etc feel the same as you. While Kosovo is historically Serbian to them, they have there own problems and issues in everyday life to worry about. Employment, earning a good wage and having a decent way of life.
That's what the Government should be working towards. The are supposed to be elected to serve the people. It's about time they did.

Gjergj,

I can assure you ther is no mythology when I state that Kosovo & Metohija is a province of Serbia - the UN (including US & UK) reconfirmed such a fact in resolution 1244 - FACT.

EA, there will be no independence since it is now clear that Russia will veto any such imposition that is without agreement. The US can scream & shout as much as it wants but they are tied to the resolution they signed - unless of course they want to loose all credibilty - given the fort Dix episode last week I think they will be doubting such a move now. The Russians have only to say No and the US will have egg on their face and will have to put Ceku in his place regarding the realities of a multi-polar world!!!

It's about time you realsied that real compromise is essential if all are to find a solution that is stable and will be lasting - something that Ahtisaari has failed to deliver!

"Most Serbs (in Serbia proper) don't even want Kosovo to stay part of Serbia".

Now that is just dishonest, but it is no suprise as it just reflects to kosovo albanian leadership in their diplomatic skill in reaching compromises. I.e. nada. Delusion starts at home.

As for Solana, the americans once asked, "if we need to talk to europe about foreign policy, who do we call?". Certainly not to Solana. For all the talk about european unity, the big member states refuse to hand over any real power and continue to fight tooth and nail to hold on to their 'sovereignty', the sovereignty that they are only to keen to to ignore or strip when it comes to 'other' countries.

As for the 'promises', the EU spake with forked tongue. There are ALWAYS 'conditions' and trade offs attached. The EU will continue to squeeze Serbia as much as it possibly can, only letting up some slack when the 'considered' risk of instability becomes too dangerous.

Princip, it is easy for you to comment on these issues since you live in the UK and don’t really have to worry about anything. Most Serbs (in Serbia proper) don’t even want Kosovo to stay part of Serbia. It would be just a burden and Serbia has no capacity to keep it anyway. Do you ever think what’s best for your own people? Or are you still reading Serb mythology books and living Milosevics dream? You should really think about this.

Princip,

To be frank with you the new government in Serbia is less worst than the other option. Between two bad things you would choose the one which is less bad. The European Union thinks and is willing to help the new government to bring Serbia closer to the European Union. But is up to Serbia when it comes to do its duties first, meet its obligations to handing over its war criminals Radko Mlladic and Radovan Karaxhic, in fighting the corruption, overall reforms in legal and its politics system, especially by recognising the independence of Kosova otherwise the EU would not open the door for Serbia. Alternatively the only option for Serbia would be to join Russia. I see that you all the time try to ignore the historical facts when it comes to Serbia, Kosova and the region, as nothing has happened in at least in the last decade. Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore. You should know that by now.

Let's hope that Solana & the EU is true to it's words

"The European Union will fully support Serbia in this endeavor,"

if this is the case then I guess Serbia can have the full support of the EU in ensuring that it is not partitioned and teh folly of trying to dismember a UN recognised state is immediatly replaced with genuine talks on achieving a lasting and stable "negotiated" solution!

Solana needs to know that the priority for Serbia is ensuring it's integrity first and foremost and that the EU needs to put action to such words. If they still wish to push such folly through then they will be responsible for the collapse of the fragile pro-EU coalition which would occur. Both Tadic & Kostunica should put the ball back in the EU court whether the EU genuinely wants Serbia in the EU or not!
