"So far, after years on different boards of discussion, I have never met a Serb who feel sorry for Srebrenica. They always brandished Jasenovac with its alleged 750 000 victims to minimize what they have done to Bosniaks!"(Victor, Monday, 7 May, 2007, 13:52)
First off, Victor is simply lying, I've personally told him I feel very sorry for what happened to the people of Srebrenica and that I did Humanitarian work for the Bosniak population. Many people here have done so as well. Also Tadic attended the memorial to the victims of Srebrenica, so Victor is clearly making things up. He's what we refer to as a "Forum Troll" in Silicon Valley. I have a rule, "Don't Feed The Trolls!"
Secondly, I personally have never heard any Serb make a connection between Jasenovac and Srebrenica. Jasenovac was run by the Croatian Ustashe and really had very little to do with the Bosniak population. Jasenovac is important to understand the Serb mentality, its not justification for crimes, but an explanation why Serbs reacted the way they did to the revival of the Ustashe in Croatia, which of course then led to everything else that so tragically happened in the Balkans.

Victor, just read what was said in the article about the book - follow the legal arguments, and don't go into facts which are not pertinent or part of the argument...

You don't know "all Serbs" and don't know how they feel about the war in former Yugoslavia - so your assumptions are only theoretical "extrapolations", which may not be true.

«...until people are willing to deal with uncomfortable questions, not to mention turning against notorious war-criminals rather than identifying with them ...»

We don't hear the 'good' people! I've heard a lot on our national television, when the people of Srebrenica commemorate the killing of 8 000 and I've heard good people barely asserting that the Bosniaks got what they deserved! Such comments which are not isolated give the impression that most of the Serbs are uncompasionnate, rude, radical. Is this only an impression?

While the Germans show real sorrow for what their compatriots have done in the 40s, I'm yet to read a Serb from Serbia or Bosnia to express his heartfeld compassion and discontent. Serbs living confortably in Australia or California are not representatives of the serbian reality and what happened during the war.

princip -- i read yr comments (and similair ones) almost daily, and i find it so sad, sometimes angering. you are so wrapped up in that web of untruth and denial, and your words daily work towards continued misunderstanding, mistrust and further hostility. to outsiders, your extremist nationalist positions represent serbia, which is sad, though probably many or most serb agree with you... every day i hope for fresh serb voices not mired in xenophobia, chauvanism, racism... you guys (and gals) need to make yourselves heard, not just allow the extremists among you to represent all serbs.

once upon a time, there was the real threat of milosevic and his hooligans to silence (most)dissidents there -- yet now when there is "democracy" i hear and read even less dissent than ever.

i believe that it is a terrible mistake to allow the demagogues to rule the waves. democracy is not just about "free" elections. it also means standing up for the rights of minorities, standing against the deliberate falsification of history, standing up to bullies, whether the obvious types like the radicals, or the more "sophisticated" ones ala kostunica.

in my opinion, serbia does not have to stand a "nation apart" -- but until people are willing to deal with uncomfortable questions, not to mention turning against notorious war-criminals rather than identifying with them -- serbia will continue to earn the distrust and and harsh judgment of the outside world...

So what if these defendents are portrayed as Milosevic's minions? Milosevic was never convicted of anything as far as I know, except in the opinion of the slanted Western press. Standing by and doing nothing, is kind of like what Oric was determined to have done. Give these defendents a few years in jail, as a sign that the Hague is doing it's work, and let's move on. EVERY side was guilty of atrocities! Please let's all admit that. Do pro independence K-Albaniacs think that Haradinaj is clean?

I would sugget anyone interetsed in knowing the reality of the ICTY to read
Travesty: The Trial of Slobodan Milosevic and the Corruption of International Justice by John Laughland. I add a link to a review of the book

The real truth is getting louder and louder - hence the haste in judegments and in the folly of attempting to impose one-sided solutions and dismembering UN recognised state.
