U.S., Montenegro sign defense treaty

The United States signed a defense pact with Montenegro that could open the way for the deployment of U.S. in that country.

Why is it neccessary to protect their interests? i don't see US bases in France, Spain, etc. Are you referring to the potential civil war between the orthodox population and the Albanian minority?

With such a large Russian community and a large Albanian minority, add the presence of US forces on Montenegrin soil, trouble may lie ahead.
