Corrupt physician banned from practice

Evey time I read an article such as this one on B92 I am reminded of just what passionate and patriotic nationalists Serbs are. You guys really love each other, don't you?

Corruption happens everywhere. Unfortunately...
Same for Serbia. It's less problematic than in some of the neighbouring countries, even EU-member states like Bulgaria. And what about the US (Wolfowitz, just to name the latest example) or Britain (Blair handing out knighthoods to campaign donors).
All corruption, all despicable. The fact that you're reading about these things in Serbian media (KG-law faculty etc.) shows that at least something is done about it.

Michael, corruption plagues all societies and you can not possibly believe that it is a measure of any nation or people.

While it is undoubtedly true that every country in the world has its problems with corruption, there are not so many places where corruption is the way of life. In this very story, the only actual punishment metered out to the offending doctor was that he will find himself for the next five years unable to actually make any extra money on the side, as undoubtedly he will continue to be paid his monthly salary whether he is involved in research or otherwise. Am I to understand that this is how Serbia is tackling the corruption problem?

The irony is that everywhere I look in Belgrade I am told how Serbs are such great nationalists and so on: this is a myth. There is less care for one's neighbours here than anywhere else I have been on the planet. Samo sloga Srbina spašava? I am yet to witness this in actuality.
