Fried: Resolution by end of spring

Do you notice that a string of US personals have recently been taking turns piling pressure on Russia, and when that failed, they now turned on Belgrade (whom they had largely discarded as inconsequential previously when they didn't expect Moscow's resoluteness on the issue). Fried is the latest one, and he obviously wants to sow discord between the Serbian government and people. His feeling "sorry for the Kosovo Serbs" is a fork-tongued statement.

I do not understand why Fried thinks that publishing a plan in all the Serbian newspapers that says Serbia will be dismembered by Ahtisaari will make the opiinion of Serbs any different. Dismembering of Serbia is the problem. That and the people do not think KLA Ceku and the KLA leadership of Kosovo can ever be trusted with the safety of Serbs. The plan is a total non-starter and is basically just a list of what the Albanians want and demand.

Fried also said this today according to Reuters:
"We hope that Russia understands that Kosovo is going to be independent one way or another," Fried told Reuters in an interview at a Brussels Forum on transatlantic relations.

"It will either be done in a controlled, supervised way that provides for the well-being of the Serbian people, or it will take place in an uncontrolled way and the Kosovo Serbs will suffer the most, which would be terrible."

I could not have put it better myself. If Russia plays hardheaded, the maximum Serbia will get is three minor municipalities in the far North. The Rest of Kosova goes bye bye! And get ready to welcome up there the 60% of the Kosovo Serbs who will be left behind. I hope that for the sake of everyone Ahtisaari's plan goes through. At least then the Serbs will have one legal gurantee to hold on to. Otherwise they better get some of those awsome "Volunteer Guards" going!

Not all Americans are so keen on the folly that some in it's administration are so hasty to implement - probably because the longer this is allowed to be analysed many more will be wondering what the hell are we doing?!?!?!
