Alan believes that he has the answer in someone else’s comments. So be it. My “brothers in arms” defend what belongs to them while desiring nothing from others. I guess Alan you can defend your SS Skendarbeg Divisions and kanun or Lek Dukagjini.as this is your heritage. I know that Serbian heritage was always on the side of western democracy, unlike yours that is steeped in fascism and vendetta. Recently while on a trip to Corfu we did a side trip to Albania and I was shocked by its primitivism. Since I live in Canada and have never been to Kosovo I wanted to know why Canada joined other NATO nations in support of a terrorist organization like the KLA. You need to read until recently a secret document called “Project for a New American Century” the "Mein Kampf" of American globalization. to understand the events that ushered in the Balkan wars. Unlike you Alan I read and know that every town and village in Kosovo has a Serbian name and origin. What usually happens when primitivism gains hold like in Afghanistan where “Bearded men dressed in baggy salwar kameezes loaded and reloaded their rocket launchers under a clear azure sky. The Taliban fighters were busy - busy destroying two giant Buddhas carved into the hillside nearly 2,000 years ago, busy erasing all traces of a rich pre-Islamic past” Since you have no monuments of your own your brothers in arms desecrate Christian churches which contain art that predeceases the Renaissance. In fact the Italian Renaissance had its start in Serbian Kosovo. By respecting other peoples culture we build our own.

Walter,
You are right on the money in every one of your points. I notice that the people who are attacking Walter are just calling him names, like a bunch of juveniles. They are not trying to dispute his evidence, because they can not.

Walter

Nikshala and M. Friday: When I write about intellectually lazy people I am writing about you. Your lack of evidence on the subject that I wrote about indicates this. Life does not, however, require us to agree about Kosovo but we will live with the consequences of our disagreements partyicularly if they are based on ignorance.and emotion. Those who are intellectually lazy tend to use emotion as evidence and when thatr does not work they yell and use foul language and that really shows their ignorance.

In October 1998 I went to Vukovar, a city destroyed and its inhabitants butchered by the soldiers of Slobodan Milosevic. The place still smelled of death, the widows weep, and the ruins gape. Around Srebrenica, where neither I nor many other Westerners have gone, the bodies of thousands of slaughtered victims still lie in unmarked graves. In Kosovo, we can only imagine what depravities of human wickedness, what depths of human degradation, those endless columns of refugees have fled. Mass rape, mass graves, death camps, historic communities wiped out by ethnic cleansing - these are the monuments to Milosevic's triumph

Your comments do not merit any attention. It has been indeed very long since list time I've heard such an insult and discrimination.

Kosovo status is already resolved. Russia WILL use its Veto. Albanians will declare independence irrespective. US will recognise this independence. Serbs in Serb dominated Kosovo will declare counter independence. NATO will keep the 2 sides apart effectively confirming the partition of the province. Serbs save face by getting rid of 2 million Albanians, keeping a good chunk of Kosovo and Albanians crying forever on how their ambitions failed. The final play will be Republika Srpska which is carefully watching events. All remaining Serb lands will be joined and this mess will finally be over.

this "Sergej" is very likely a ( desperate ) albanian poster, since you, too, don´t seem to have any clue what the russian poeple thinks about Serbia and it´s poeple.

those ( poor ) attempts to create a hostile attitude towards other nations ( also by using anglo-american nick-names for pro-albanian comments ) is more than naive.

using those cheap tactics shows me how nervous you actually are.

Wow, this people are delusional.
Here what one of most influential woman of the 20 century Margaret Thatcher “Iron lady” said about Kosovo
http://www.margaretthatcher.org/speeches/displaydocument.asp?docid=108381
It would be both cruel and stupid to expect the Albanian Kosovars now to return to live under any form of Serbian rule. Kosovo must be given independence, initially under international protection. And there must be no partition, a plan that predictable siren voices are already advancing. Partition would only serve to reward violence and ethnic cleansing. It would be to concede defeat. And I am unmoved by Serb pleas to retain their grasp on most of Kosovo because it contains their holy places. Coming from those who systematically leveled Catholic churches and Muslim mosques wherever they went, such an argument is cynical almost to the point of blasphemy.

“Russia’s position is that the mission should visit the [Serb] enclaves in Kosovo, verify the implementation of the UN Resolution 1244, and then open a discussion on the subject in the Security Council.”
Well Mr Lavror, you dont need to go to visit the Serbs enclaves in Kosovo and do you know why? Let me save you some time for your "visit". I will tell you the answer actually the answer WHICH IS ALREADY is in your head already. "The Serbian population is living in unbearable conditions, they are discriminated, they are afraid to come out from their homes because their life is threatened by the Albanians "extremists", the Serbian houses are burned down on daily basis and hundreds of Serbian people in Kosovo are killed on daily basis" How does that sound to you, to the Serbian people and to the international community that you care so much? Well that is beyond the tragi-commedy story Mr Lavrov. Be serious Mr Lavrov and ask the Serbs to join the Kosovo institutions in a democratic and independent Kosova and wake up and do not dream with open eyes. Kosova is in the heart of Europe with all its democratic values and will be recognised by the world.

Afrim Hoxha

pre 17 godina

Russia and Lavrov do not really want any solution to be done in Kosova because only instability in the region would benefit for them. The russians say that negotiations have to continue and that both parts have to agree but there is absolutely no solution that both parts have to agree. When Russia asks for more negotiations its shows its naive and careless politics towards this problem because there is no solution that both parts would agree.
Also, Mr. Lavrov says ""KFOR units have been in the autonomy since 1999; they have enough strength and means to prevent violence. If they cannot resolve it, it will be their problem, their guilt,".... Therefore Lavrov is asking KFOR forces to resolve the problem and the KFOR forces are resolving it by giving to Kosova Independence as this is the only solution. Lavrov is asking for a solution and that is the solution. Lavrov clearly states that Kosova is the problem of KFOR not of Russia and therefore KFOR will solve it. KFOR= USA, ENGLAND, GERMANY, FRANCE etc...
thanks MR. Lavrov for making it clear to the serbs that it will be KFOR and whoever is in Kosova to solve this problem not Russia since Russia can not even solve her own problems there in the lost world of old Rusia.

Joe most people outside of Serbia and even some Serbs know very little or nothing about Kosovo. During Enver Xoxa’s regime in Albania thousands of Albanians fled to Yugoslavia and they were welcomed there. What exactly were the crimes of Milosevic? He accepted five internationally brokered peace agreements during the conflict in Yugoslavia while others accepted and then under influence of NATO broke them. Albanians in Kosovo had all the rights given to other citizen of Yugoslavia and Serbia. Albanians had their own schools, universities, language, religion, news media, and so on, the same kind of rights that Quebecers have in Canada. In 1972 some Quebeckers (nationalists) took up arms against the Canadian government and Trudeau sent in the army. This was similar to the KLA taking up arms against the state that they lived in. Any leader in any nation democratic or not would have sent in the army if a group like the KLA was active in their country. KLA was on the CIA terrorist list until NATO needed them for their agenda for the Balkans. Joe one can look at sections of countries and say that they are unique. Is Kurdistan, Punjab, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Crimea, Eastern Turkey and on and on less or more unique than Kosovo? There are hundreds of examples where grievances of minorities need to be addressed but not using a barrel of a gun or having a right after becoming a majority in a region to cleave it off. Joe, one does not need courage to see similarities or differences in events. People who are intellectually lazy lack the ability to see similarities and differences in events. Joe “a little learning is a dangerous thing” since it leads emotionalism and terrorism. South Tyrol is an example of harmony because clan mentality is not part of this society and NATO agenda is not at play here. Why don’t you use the Basque region of Spain as an example? Spain is not terrorizing the Basque just like Serbs did not terrorize the Kosovo Albanians but nationalists in both regions (ETA in Spain and KLA in Kosovo) committed terrorist acts against innocent civilians. Both ETA and KLA were on the CIA list of terrorist organizations; however ETA remains on the\at list while the KLA is no longer there. Why? Spain is in NATO while Serbia who defended the concept of brotherhood and unity was isolated by NATO so that European Union could break up Yugoslavia. Read Diana Jhonstones “The Fools Crusade” where she writes that “The reality is that, sometimes, it is easier to ignore uncomfortable facts and go along with whatever distortion is currently in vogue. We see a lot of this today in politics.” Joe intellectually lazy people will not see the similarity between Iraq and Yugoslavia. Bush’s lies about Iraq are simply repetition of Clinton’s lies about Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Serbia..

Blackmail! finally a top ranking official has found the sand to say the obvious. If violence breaks out it will be Kfor's fault & responsibility not Russia's or Serbia's. Only the truth can set you free! As far as China being dependent or afraid of the US, I don't think so! China has cleverly used the greed of US politicians & corporations to achieve it's current global position. It's the US that is dependant & afraid of China! What would happen if inexpensive Chinese manufactured goods no longer flowed freely into the US? We have very little of our once dominant manufacturing base left. Not only that but China has diversified it's trade, increasing every year with Russia, EU, South America, Africa while it's trade with the US is decreasing. China's GDP is nearly 4x's that of the US. What if China dumped it's massive dollar reserves for other currencies; the dollar could collapse. Russia is getting stronger & bolder every year, Putin is a fantastic & clever leader that we here in the US only could dream of having! They are not afraid of using their power or their VETO; a new multipolar era is at hand & the US will just have to get use to it!

Sergej,

Don't lose heart I think the Serbs have reevaluated a great deal over their future path. They have been given much reason to wonder which way to look when so called "friends" suggets you must give up 15% of your territory if you want to be our "friend".

I think Russia is strong and is emerging as a real friend of the EU too and the US dominated uni-polar era is closing fast - more so since 2003 (Iraq another Illegal war).

Russia's interest is being served by promoting further discussions. If the US fail to push this through - they lose face and all will know that it's uni-polar dominance is over. I think that is in Russia's interest. Beyond that the US will have lost the opportunity of forcing sui generis over KiM and if the US choose to recognise an Illegal unilateral declaration of independence for southern KiM against the UN resolution of 1244 that they signed upto then Russia will have even more interest regarding it's near abroad issues!!! Russia's interest is well served by Serbia's interest in KiM and what is more you will have a continued deep friendship from all Serbs for your support that is guaranteed.

Predictor, nothing has changed the stance of all the other nations in the UN SC since 4th April when only 4 supported it and all others had major concerns and did not support it. Worse still for anti-nation states and anti-International supporters like yourself, Ahtisaari has admitted that he never discussed any alternatives - this makes it far less credible for anyone to suggest that this is the "only" solution - as there are clearly many alternatives - none of which have been even discussed let alone "negotiated upon".

It is clear that when the US & UK suggest this is the "only" solution they clearly mean this is the only solution that we have deceided all the rest of you must vote!!! The fact remains that this undiplomatic steam rolling of the UN SC is starting to agrieve so many of the other members and I guess Kosovo & Metohija issue is being used as a line in the sand to both the US and UK!!!

I doubt there will ever be need of a Russian & Chinese veto since it is all the more clearer that this one-sided diplomacy has very little support!!!

I urge all pro-International law and pro-Helsinki act supporters to write to your governing representatives as well as the Embassy or consulate's in your nation representing all the 15 member states of the UN SC for them to respect and provide support of Serbia's stance for finding a solution that is negotiated and respects the rule of International law for all in the world!! We are all citizens of the world in which we live and need to ensure that laws that have been created through the loss of tens of Millions life and World Wars are not swiped away by this illogical and disrespect of the International law that the US & Uk would wish the rest of the UN SC to roll over and rubber stamp!!!

Lowe,

There were “only” four countries that actively support Mr. Ahtisari’s proposal, while other countries (apart from Russia and Slovakia), we could say silently supported the plan. As this was more-less just consultation meeting, therefore not of the vital interest for Kosova’s final status (independence), it is still a big PLUS for Kosova. As far as “SC fact finding” mission that will be sent to Kosova concerning, I am sure you are aware of that they will be just one day I BG and Two days in PR – does it sound as a serious mission to you?

Raso

I clearly see your nationalistic behavior, but I still don’t care of that as you might be what ever you want and you think is better for you. As far as Russia’s and China’s veto concerns, I am not saying they are afraid of the BIG powers, and Slovakia is not, but here are the facts:

Slovakia is an EU member, voting against the plan does not endanger neither their economy nor politics, not to mention their vital interests.

Russia desperately wants to join WTO what is of vital interests (Serbia and Kosova are ZERO comparing tto the fact I mentioned), Russia still wants to export its gas to Europe and possibly to USA too, and get the other goods from them with fair trade (what is impossible unless they join WTO).

China – what to tell about, their main trade partner is, Raso, guess who it is? = USA, wav, that’s not good at all a? That’s the reason why they have been so “quite” these months! And they will remain “quite” including SC vote session, or, will make some “noise” just to benefit something…

The suma-sumarum: everyone will benefit with Koova’s independence: Russia will most probably join WTO very soon after that, China will keep its trading level with USA and EU, Kosova will get the independence, while Slovakia will win some more millions … you see everyone is HAPPY… end of the story

You are inaccurate about 12 countries on the UNSC being pro-Kosovo. At the last UNSC meeting on Kosovo, it was found that only 4 countries (US, UK, France and Belgium) are pro-independence. The others have varying degrees of reservations. That was why Russia's proposal for UN to send a mission to Kosovo was accepted.

Instructions to use or not to use the veto must come from the capitals of those countries with veto power. This is standard practice (including for US and UK) and so is nothing out of the ordinary.

I am sure that Belgrade media will speculate about his visit… but the fact is that the messenger (Mr. Lavrov) is coming to BG to inform BG government on Russia’s stand regarding the possible (read: impossible) veto use in SC, and advise BG to continue with the diplomacy to convince the other members of the SC to vote against or at least to abstain (just like is the case with South Africa f.e). Le t me be clear in one thing: Serbia has 3 SC members that supports them: Russia, China (not 100% sure) and Slovakia; Russia and China will probably abstain the vote, while Slovakia will vote against the proposal, so Kosova is left with only 12 votes PRO independence. Well, I think it is enough.

Well, I think it is enough.

lowe

Instructions to use or not to use the veto must come from the capitals of those countries with veto power. This is standard practice (including for US and UK) and so is nothing out of the ordinary.

Dragan

Blackmail! finally a top ranking official has found the sand to say the obvious.
