Maybe I was wrong when I said that the "Serbs have lost the will to fight for right". Lately I have seen a serge in the Serbian (& other nationalities who are not brain washed by Western & Albanian propaganda) in standing up for truth & Justice. Thank God!!!!

This will turn out very ugly if Kosovo is granted independance!! With all other terrorist organisations being encouraged by the ability of the KLA to tear away a piece of land that is historically and culturally not theres leads to the developement of war. Rememeber Serbians aren't the stongest foe in the world but they are among the most traditional, they simply will not give away what their ancestors have fought for over the centuries. Just look at Serbian history and make the decision for yourself.
Respect internationally recognised borders and do not follow the American way and do what ever is best for the Americans. I wonder what the Albanians sold to the american politions to support them!! As they have nothing to offer that is theres.

Jack, paying taxes and abiding by the normal laws of civilised countries is something that Serbia needs itself. Pot calling the kettle black!

Another ethnic cleansing? Are you smoking dope? How can another ethnic cleansing be possible? First of all if there ever was an ethnic cleansing we wouldn't have this problem because then there would be all Serbs there. But there was an ethnic cleansing... Serbs driven out. You all may want to dabble into the affairs of countries that have no concern to you but I will tell you one thing, at the end of the day, you have to answer to the man upstairs, of which you cannot work your way around like so please here. Bog Cuva Srbe!

After reading all comments here for a while and of course reading all news about Kosovo for the last couple of years I must say that the analysis of James Lyon is the best and also he predicts the most probable outcome (partition). Read it at the lower right, in the "B92 Blog" area.

"It will be the two things that Albanians hate the most. Paying taxes and abiding by the normal laws of civilised countries."

HAH AH AH HAH

Also, Kosovo if independent will be the next IRAQ. Step one, build Kosovo, Step two enslave Kosovo population (since money was borrowed from the IMF)much like it was "given" to Serbia

Result 1: K-Albanian population enslaved in order to repay debt used for "developing" Kosovo
Result 2: Look at Iraq

Burns did a great job in laying out the Albanian view but when is he going to confront the Serbian view? He is just a flat out lobbyist for whatever the Albanians want.

The U.S. is playing with fire. The WWI started when the "major" powers tried to take a piece of another country. Every empire which has tried to separate Kosovo from Serbia has failed, and ultimately led to MAJOR, MAJOR wars. Back then, just as now those powers did not THINK the powers they are against (Serbia, Russia, etc) were strong enough to resist. You're playing with Holy land here. You are playing with the Rule of law. If anything happens they will be the ones responsible for the outcome. What is going on in the world right now is pure evil. Why does history always have to repeat itself. The West is playing with powers results they cannot possibly comprehend.

it is a shame that all serbs in this blog are in a state of denial and that they still believe what they were taught in school and continue to nourish hate vs you neighbors. its a pitiful that we live in a wikipedia world, but you still prefer to absorb what Beograd tells you. contiue with this way of thinking and will se how much left will remain of serbia

Maybe I am the only educated person on this side of the world but I do believe Serbia is correct and has a very valid point. “Any recognition of the independence of Kosovo-Metohija will be in brutal violation of the UN norms, the UN Charter and the valid Resolution 1244,” If I am not mistaken I believe I read that correctly and the actual Resolution 1244 article... Actually I read 1244 through my lotus notes and I am pretty sure the international community will in fact be in direct vilation of that resolution.
Now dont get me wrong... I did not write the laws... I actually would like to see Kosovo get its independence at this point. Not for the K. Albanians sake...its not theirs and they dont deserve it but because I have seen first hand how customs and the border police there work... MONEY TALKS... Not only will independence for Kosovo allow other break away countries to violate laws like the 1244 but will indeed lead Kosovo to being a cest pool for Islamic terrorists and as we all know Kosovo has its share of Terrorists groups as we speak... Remember people I know this from experience so save your comments by trying to defend Kosovo...

I wonder what else Kostunica has to say to his believers. Who in the world cares what the serb Government has to say. Kosova will become independent and no question about it.
Serb government can scream all it can, but nobody will hear it, even Russia is leaving Serbia alone in the hands of... guess who? in the hands of some African countries.
Get over with it my serb neighbors, get used to consider Kosova as a neighboring country.
We will hopefully live in peace as neighboring countries.
I also hope that you get a real primeminister, not like the one you have now that lies to you all the time.
So are you the serbs going to celebrate the loss of Kosova? Since you celebrated it in 1999. I would come to your celebration for the loss of Kosova but i am not sure if you will invite me.

Serbia has made it clear that she will never recognise Kosovo's independence and will always have a claim to the territory. However, beyond making this stand there is little else that Serbia can do other than to diplomatically persuade others that territorial soverienty must be respected over and above any other rights. Lets hope that common sense will prevail.

What ever the outcome, messy and inconclusive, independence or otherwise, Serbia must ensure that she is in a position to maximise the benefits for her citizens. Serbia must on no account be cornered and isolated as she was during the Milosevic era.

Bob

pre 17 godina

Autonomy is the proper way forward.

A concern is that if independence is declared the next natural step will be partition - and if 1244 is effectively derogated then Serbia would be within its rights to occupy the partitioned territory.

It is clear that the Serbs will not be welcome in the independent areas, so expect a refugee rush.

Independence will be a reward for years of pressure on Serbs to drive them out of Kosovo - the nationalism should not be rewarded this way.

Milosevic did much that was wrong for Serbia - he went for a form of nationalism that did more harm than good for its own people because it antogonised others.

However, substantial autonomy is a realistic and meaningful solution - the only thing stopping it is the nationalistic aims of the Albanian population.

NATO bombed for humantarian reasons; it did not want a repeat of the massive death-toll in Bosnia. However the bombing should not become an invasion; that is wrong. If NATO is to become an invasion force then it must not be allowed to use humanitarian argument in future - it cannot be trusted.

Serbia is "WARNING" the USA? Well that is something! We are shaking in our boots here in America at this warning from the mighty Serbian warrior Kostunica. USA will be the second country in the world to recognize independence! Albania will be first! Britain will be third. France and Germany will be fourth and fifth. After that Kosovo does not need many others, but they will recognize anyway because these are major countries who are doing so. In the end Russia will look like a fool. But I doubt they are that naive to take it that far. They will come around much sooner, before it gets to that stage!

Victor

Fifteen years later... and it is too late. The worst was achieved by Milosevic and there is no way back in the future. If Milo would have considered Kosovo as a part of Serbia sovereingty, he would have respected the citizens of Kosovo and deal otherwise with the demands of its leaders. Instead of discusing and negociating, he sent the army in ... and we all know what happened.

Too late now and millions of Albanians have lost confidence in the Serbs. Can we blame them?

????

USA is telling Serbia the truth. Kosovo must become independent in order to avoid another ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo by Serbia. Let me remind you that Serbia currently is governed by people much more nationalists than Milosevic. Those politicians have made it legal in Serbia to express extreme anti- Albanian hate. Just take a look at the website of Serbian government.

Serbia wants Kosovo but so far they have refused categorically to tell the world what they are going to do with 2 million Albanians that make up 92 % of Kosovo population.
