Andrew- what is your proposal then for Kosovo?
Just remember that one has to reflect and make sense of the past before moving into the future. Therefore taking into account all the oppression K Albanians have experienced from the Serbian oppressors over the past century, what would be the realistic approach here?

I may be totally off here, but it seems to me this independence plan is being pushed by UN diplomats so that they can alieviate themselves of responsibility for Kosovo. They will force the EU to deal with the fallout.

Is Kosovo ready for independence economically or politically? 8 years of UN supervision and control does not seem to have prepared them for autonomous self-government.

If Kosovo is granted internationally recognized independence, the EU had better be ready to deal with the consequences of building a divided nation. Do we really want another Bosnia?

Hope Russia will veto this plan. Kosovo must stay in Serbia. At least... as long as Serbia does not agree with independence.

I remember the deal in 1999 was: autonomy. Let's carry this out then.

And if Kosovo gets its independence then at least Kurdistan and Tibet need to be indepedent immediatelly!

The K-Albanians will only be shooting themselves in the foot if they really carry out their threat of violence. Because that would be blatant blackmail. The international community (which is actually more than just the West) will then likely respond with the message that blackmailers are unworthy of statehood.

The continiuing inability to solve the 'kosovo question' is because the West is ignoring the legitimate position of the Serbian party

Since Kosovo legally belongs to Serbia and there is still a Serbian minority there (despite the attmepts to ethnically cleanse it), and since most of its population in the province is ethnically Albanian a compromise should be found.

I think the best solution would be an agreed division of the province which would allow the Kosovo-Serbs to remain part of Serbia and ensure that as many of Serbia's holy shrines are also included in Serbia.

The rest should be allowed to go its own way- independence or union with Albania.

Jovan, Serbia will get even smaller if it starts another war with Albanians, actually it will go back to its original size, which use to be Belgrade with its surraundings.

if the Albanians should choose the violent path, they would regret it sooner or later. Serbia is well prepared to defend it´s borders, and if the Albanians start violence Serbs will have every right to assist the international community in calming down the extremists.

better go the peaceful way, if you´re not completely dumb.
