Mines do not discriminate. Whether Serb or Albanian, Christian or Muslim, innocent child or soldier, mines kill all. I agree with the banning of such inhumane devices.

I agree with Kate land mines and other weapons that can be left behind years after a conflict should absolutely be banned from use in national armies, Of coarse all weapons are terrible but land mines in particular are a ineffective weapon against armies and do the most damage in the long run to civilains and hinder the development of a region where ever it may be.

One question I have is why on earth would a child do such a thing? For one picking it up? And two placing it in there pocket and start playing a game?

It is amazing non of the children were killed, it could have been 10X worse than it turned out to be.

Children should be educated by their parents/teachers/authorities etc.. NOT to TOUCH anything they find that may bring into question what it is. Rather they should alert some one of it and stay away.

Given the fact that it was in the South and given the fact that Serbian military, police, and paramilitary units littered the southern border with land mines in order to you know what, it is safe to say it is Serbian in origin.
Trust me NATO did not plant the landmines in the south because that was the route Albanian refugees were taking in order to escape from Serbs

It is really terrible, but nobody knows where the mine originated. It could have been a cluster bomb dropped by Nato. These are renowned as being attractive to children because of their bright colouring.
My Easter wish is for all war to end, and for a start landmines and cluster bombs should be banned.
