Hi Princip,

To a certain extent I agree that the Russians will eventually sell out the Serbs. What I don't understand, and if someone could explain, is what are the the political ramifications for the Russians? What do they stand to lose if they veto the biast resolution. The Americans don't honour anything they sign, they have double crossed the Russians before, they are giving them the proverbial shaft now by installing missles in Europe,
right next door to the Russians, and one day they'll be knocking on the Russian's door to dominate and impose their will on them, so, what do they stand to lose?

"According to Kommersant, this propaganda campaign is deliberately circumventing the reality, which is that in essence Kosovo has long been lost to Serbia:"

This does not apply to north Kosovo. It has always been under Serb control since 1999.

I think the deal between the West and Moscow mentioned in this article is one that will enable both sides to save face -- most of Kosovo to be independent while keeping the north until de facto or de jure Serb control.

Honestly you don't even try and hide it anymore, you are purely full of hatred for Serbs...And really I don't give a penny what you think or have to say....just wanted you to know.

Zoran,
Serbia lost its "ancient heartland" in the 17th century. In the modern history of Serbia Kosovo has never been a central area of it, neither has it had any kind of role in its history. Kosovo has been only a source of problems for Serbia since 1913. If you adopt this point of view you'll see it for what it is: a good event for Serbia. Serbia should accept Ahtisaari's plan, since it's the best it can achieve for its interests in Kosovo.

Victor

Zoran, during the war, Serbs have fight against helpless women, taking the right in their hands to terrorize and killing innocent civilians, behaving like a terrorist state and committing widespread fatalities. The Serbs have even lost the right to fight for their rights because of the way the fought during the last wars.

Zoran

pre 17 godina

Unfortunatly I agree with many of the comments made. I also believe Serbia will lose it's ancient heartland. This would be one of the most unjust and destructive events in European history, but apparently christian Europe is hell bent on forming another Islamic terrorist state like Bosnia where I believe Osama bin Laden is being sheltered. Russia will support the Serbs but not get directly involed. It's up to the Serbs to save themselves. Only Unity can save the Serbs! To bad they have lost their will to fight for right.

I've always believed that while the final resolution on Kosovo will be a greater compromise between Belgrade and Pristina, I really don't see it ever being outright killed at the UN. While Pristina and Belgrade each put their entire hopes in the actions of Washington and Moscow respectively, in the end, one side is going to have to blink. Russia never said it would flat out veto any resolution and I predict that there will be lots of back room negotiation going on now before a final resolution is introduced that will be universally agreed on.

«I would strongly suggest to abandon nationalistic and chauvinistic politics and politicians.»

I agree completely with you. The Serbs should put their energy to feed their population, and put them to work, instead of fighting over lost battles!

predictor

That's true, that's all they could do! There is nothing more they could do. This will actually be a good excuse from Russian diplomacy to their Serbian "brothers", that they did all what was possible, but, could not stop Kosova's independence.
I am not suprised with Serbian potiticians that they are still dealing with Kosova'a issue insted dealing with real problems they have in Serbia, to make their citizen's life easier and better. To fool their poople, they are, only talking about Kosova. In the same way has started Milosevic, his political career too, and every single citizen of Serbia and entire ex-YU people know where this lead, firstly Serbia and its people, then entire region. Come on people, think wisely, even Bulgaria and Rumania entered the EU/NATO! Where is Serbia??? I would strongly suggest to abandon nationalistic and chauvinistic politics and politicians.

Hi guys!

According to Kommersant, this propaganda campaign is deliberately circumventing the reality, which is that in essence Kosovo has long been lost to Serbia:

It is sad to see HOLLY people hinder into politics. This shows how desperate Serbia has become. This is not the XIV century where Pope can decide about the faith of a certain country. Leave politics to politicians and keep doing whatever the HELL you do.
You don’t see imams form Kosovo begging for USA to say “yes” to the proposal. The truth is that Kosovar Albanians don’t care about religion, if they need help they will come out and ask for it, but they don’t hide behind holly people.

One more thing, US has a different congress now. People of US finally voted and pretty soon US’s reputation will be right where it belongs. It was unfortunate that a very BAD ADMINISTRATION was elected, but I assure you that US is and it will be the most powerful country in the world for a long, long time.

Tadic told Russia's Vesti-24 television channel: "Serbia will not accept Kosovo's independence and will fight for its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all legal means,"

All this for a few acres of land where a few Serbs live. I do not understand Mr Tadic's logic.

Kosovo is inhabited mostly by Albanians, and Serbs, under Milosevic's, waged a war and killed 10 000 to 'purify' Kosovo... and they (Milo and the Serbs) lost the battle... and lost Kosovo.

Well that's one of the largest Russian newspapers speaking...I don't see any need for me to further comment. I just want to remind the Serbs one more time that you will be severely dissapointed if you think Russia will become your pawn and will play to your desires 100%. They will do what is good for Russia, and they have not much interest in Serbia. If the West offers them something which is favorable to them in the long term, they will drop Serbia like a hot potato. Keep on dreaming with your head in the sand. That is precisely what is helping us achieve Kosovo's independence.
