Leo!

You are wrong. In 1912 Serbia just took back what the ottoman empire and 500 years of occupation had taken from them.

Albanians never had a land until 1913 but then again that land is called Albania, not Serbia nor the southern part of Serbia called Kosovo.

leo

pre 17 godina

some people here dont understand that albanians are NOT GONA STOP only with kosovo indepedence.albanians in macedonia and in south serbia are going to join albania.
you guys still dont understand that 60% of albanian territories were taken in 1912.
we are working on it but it takes time

Vladet, Your response to my post is absurd. If a guerrilla force in any country begins attacking that country's civilians and government, then that government has an obligation and duty to defend itself. I think when you mention Kosovo, you err in not speaking about the on going abuses, murder and ethnic cleansing occuring against Kosovo's tiny Serbian minority. That is a crime against humanity which should be punished and condemnded, no different as that which was committed by Serbs against Albanians in Kosovo. Albanians trying to begin abuses against Serbs in Southern Serbia will find little sympathy from anyone in the West today.

The international community must not accept a secession of the Presevo Valley. For those supporting the Ahtissari plan, they must remember that it says that Kosovo will not seek the union with another state nor seek other territories from joining it. If the wording is not clear, then it must be strengthened to discourage any further areas from separating from Serbia without trying to first work things out. I actually believe that minorities in Serbia can live well. Not too long ago political parties of minority groups banded together to form a political caucus. This is the right approach and the Serbian political system, although not perfect, is good enough to give these types of approaches a good and lasting start. Keep this in mind.

Wow, I am speechless. I cannot understand the Albanian mentality, they def do not want to live with the Serbs and will attack every Serb civilian until they get their wishes granted. Someone said that the Albanians live in poor conditions neglected from Belgrade. Would they be better off in Albania? Then go back! Furthermore from what I have read the Albanians protest everything Belgrade has offered and then just retaliate with independence. I hope that this whole situation escalates to the point that the World sees truly how Albanians are.

Nick wrote: “All they have to do is shoot a few Serbs. The Serbs will retaliate…”
What kind of retaliation Nick? Killing civilians (including and children’s), burning their houses, looting Albanian homes and property, deporting Albanian population out of country borders, as it happened in Kosovo? So, do you want to say that sovereign states are allowed to do what ever they want with their own citizens as far they are inside the state borders? This is like saying: a man is allowed to kill his wife inside his house, but not on the street-outside the house?!

People in the valley of Presheva should be able to decide for themselves about their future. How can Serbia demand autonomy for Serbs in Kosovo, and not offer minimal rights to Albanians in Preshevo?

european

pre 17 godina

Did anybody stop and think that maybe what they want is not more and more, but just some of what everyone else has? The Presevo valley has suffered for years with underinvestment and neglect from Belgrade - the disdain, not to say racism, of the majority population of Serbia towards Albanians is serious and debilitating to the whole society.

In this particular instance the Albanians are asking in fact for the same municipal powers that the SErb majority municipalities in Kosovo (including some municipalities with artificial or to be created majorities) will have under the new settlement. They are sending out a reminder that they are there and they are not happy - a perfectly legitimate and democraticly acceptable means of asking for attention from the State in which they live.

Marko

pre 17 godina

You see... they just want more and more.. it is just a question of time when they call half of macedonia as legitimate land of kosovo or something like that.. how will this end?

Justice Veritas

pre 17 godina

I think all citizens in southern Serbia shall have the right to determine their own political life and so shall all municipalities in the whole of Serbia. Decentralization is important in every country.

In one sense the albanians in Bujanovac with surrondings are right because the borders of Kosovo are artificial, some communist draw the border prior to the the autonomy given in 1974. Therefore it is funny albanians are demanding independence of a territory (with internal border lines) that is artifically created by some communist in 1974.

How do you comment on this one! except to say that there are apparent dangerous disruptive political groups within the ethnic Albanian population of Serbia who are creating constant division and instability. This worrying problem must be addressed and corrected by the Serbian Government with
positive instruction
diplomacy and new employment. All citizens of Serbia must work together for the good of their country and that includes the ethnic Albanians.
France has had to live with its internal sporadic French riots. Let's hope that Serbia can keep the lid on its problem.

All they have to do is shoot a few Serbs. The Serbs will retaliate, and the Albanians will cry "look what the Serbs are doing! It's Bosnia all over again!!" Western journalists will run to cover the invented atrocities and rape stories and then NATO will step in. A year or two later, this part of Serbia will also be gone.

Rather bizarre, but I don't think the poor Serbs stand a chance. They have been so completely demonized by the Western press, that one can say almost any outragrous statement and you'll find people believing every word. Eastern Kosovo? I never heard of it. But I guess, that's a new one we'll soon hear about.

lowe

pre 17 godina

And after Eastern Kosovo comes Southern Kosovo (ie. Western Macedonia) .... see the quagmire that the West has created for itself and the region? ..... oh, I know the West stated that Kosovo cannot unite with neighbouring regions, but I don't the Albanians or anyone else will buy that line!

Hey Rick. You don't understand the Balkans and you don't understand the albanian mentality. You Really don't understand Serbia.
Don't make the mistake of underestimating what the Serbian Army is capable of. The fact is thier hands are tied at the moment. Serbia is trully a multi cultural democracy. Nevertheless, If those albanians in the valley begin to revolt in violence ....trust me they will be absolutely crushed and N.A.T.O. won't be there to fight thier battle for them , as they did for KosMet albanians.

gosh too bad this stuff ain't on BBC, Hey B92 be a doll and e-mail this news to the Brits and Yanks over at CNN and let the world see it over and over so we can all have a good laugh.

very stupid statement indeed by these people indeed.

2) your proving Serbia RIGHT by defending its land and warning others of the intention of Albanian "Leaders" who are too busy counting their drug money and what to do with it rather than feed there own people! And that goes for Albanians in (Albania,FYROM,Greece,Serbia etc..)

It is obvious that if the three Serb municipalities in the North start some form of partition effort, the Albanian-majority Presheva Valley will respond in kind. And as to Rick's comment, if Serbia were to use it's army even for minor operations, it would immediately face intense diplomatic and military pressure from the West. Serbia's military is absoultely not a factor in this issue. Only people like Nikolic even dream of armed moves. Most Serb politicians have already crossed that option off in their minds.

This is scandalous-geographically, Presovo, Bujanovac, and Medvedja are not 'eastern Kosovo', this is another sad attempt to rewrite borders and fabricate history.

I dont understand this argument-the Albanians in South Serbia enjoy the same rights gaurunteed to them in the Serbian constitution as do all peoples of Serbia.

This comes at a real sensitive time in the Balkans as well with Albanian aspirations clearly and quite often defined, aspirations that seek to undermine peoples rights and violate states.

Rick couldn't have said it better. Serbia isn't up for grabs, nor is their any reason for it to be. We have no choice but defense of all peoples who love Serbia and choose to defend the state of Serbia and its civilization.

Terrorists can never run the show in Serbia, we must never give them that message-their place is in a jail cell, awaiting God's judgement. Now is not the time for a weakness that most definitely would prove fatal to our state, with the loss of Kosovo or more and the denial of Serbians for their actually legitimate rights for independence.

Today Serbs are a shame to their ancestors who paid their lifes for their freedom, nation and territory. And they let go these territories one by one? THIS IS A SHAME.

First Kosovo, then Preshevo Valley then Sandjak and after? I say goodbye to Serbia if things continue like this.

We must stay togheter and do something, it is time or never.

Eastern Kosovo? Looks like Albanians seem to think the whole of Serbia is up for grabs. If Serbs want to have a country they better get their act together and do something fast! Whats the point of having an army if anyone can just declare your land theirs? If thats the case, then you even don't deserve it, cause there are people out there who ARE willing to fight for it.

Leo!

You are wrong. In 1912 Serbia just took back what the ottoman empire and 500 years of occupation had taken from them.

Albanians never had a land until 1913 but then again that land is called Albania, not Serbia nor the southern part of Serbia called Kosovo.
